  • this video right here defines the understanding of polarity.

  • Pro gamer

  • It's surprising how mainstream this game was even in America. These people hate arcade shooters. I love fighting this boss.

  • I have played Touhou, but I just can't trade it for Ikaruga's style.

  • MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX

Dad: son what are you doing?

    Me: MAX!

  • to the guy who made "this is the only level 3" this game is not a touhou game, learn your games.

  • 斑鳩(ikaruga) は最高の弾幕ゲー

  • Dance like a butterfly and kill your enemy then cry for your victory, this is Ikaruga !

  • I am a huge touhou fan, to date I have completed touhou 6,7,8 and 10 on lunatic difficulty. I have never played Ikaruga but the shield concept intrigues me, is it worth playing?

Also, put aside preference can anyone tell me which is harder (If you have played both at top tier gaming)

  • @jackalhunt1 To tell you, Ikaruga is addicting, very nice game. But to tell you for me, Touhou is way more difficult.

  • @itatsu1 Maybe just dodging, but going pro to get the best score without dying? Touhou doesn't match up.

  • @jackalhunt1 You need to play it. This is one shooter that people actually know about. It isn't my favorite but, I still give it a perfect score. The scoring system rivals DoDonPachi's complexity and is actually similar considering both games require you to memorize enemy patterns and learn to string them together seamlessly. Both also encourage you to use your alt fire effectively without making it a gimmick. Give it a go! Nothing to lose.

  • I think I just jizzed.

  • difficult: asian

  • What???!!!!....WHAT IN THE FUCK WAS THIS???? Truly mad skills bro, mad skills.

  • I'm guessing that if the crystalline thing at the end isn't the Stone-Like, it is in use by the actual boss - Tageri - and slowly kills off the user...maybe?

  • lucker

  • I can't stop wandering if this is a TAS... if isn't, this guy is cool

  • it cost $400,000 to fire that weapon, for 12 seconds.

  • holy crap. I have a hard enough time with the first boss on normal

  • I always get goosebumps when I see this~ the music is incredible.

  • 2:22 omfg this is beyond insane

  • energy max energy max energy max energy max energy energy energy energy!

  • think we've done the right thing?

okay I'm sure the day we understand that life is given from one generation to another ....

  • And the Origins is Finally Destroyed =)

  • ENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAXENERGYMAX

  • "have you seen max?"

  • insane

  • man you are a master ,how the hell can you play like that

  • holy fuck that was awesome!! 2.21 onwards holy what the fuck!! I love that bit of the final boss, that is my favourite part of the whole game, that exchange of max chains, whoever did that run is a ledge

  • pssh, Play Touhou or Mushihimesama. Then Ikaruga'll feel like child's play.

  • @suckapunch565 I already have and I still find Ikaruga more challenging. In Mushihimesama Futari and Touhou, the hit box is VERY small and you simply have to shoot and dodge bullets. In Ikaruga however, the hitbox is your entire ship and you must constantly switch polarity to stay alive. You must also chain your kills with the appropriate polarity to receive more score. Plus, I found Ikaruga's story and concept far more interesting than either of the games you responded with. I prefer Ikaruga.

  • @Lokiallen12345

    >In Ikaruga however, the hitbox is your entire ship

I'm sorry, I can't take you seriously when you say this. That's not really the case.

  • @OyVeey I haven't been on a computer for a week, what were we talking about?

  • @OyVeey Oh? I just went back and checked. Sorry to say, but that IS the case. Unless you're referring to the shield that surrounds your ship. In that case, I was not speaking of that. I'm afraid you're going to have to take me seriously.

  • 2:19 Gotta shoot back spazz?

  • Christ I have troubles with this on normal...

  • awww, you didn't milk tageri like Yusemi ..

  • This is fucking ridiculous. Superb skillz.

  • FUCKING HELL!

  • i liked the part when it says "energy max"

  • @TheMarepoto At 0:52 it says let me see your anus

  • NASONEX!

  • I can't keep up with what's going on.

  • not even chuck norris ...

  • 2:10 let the epicness begin!!!

  • ONE MORE THING I KNOW IM NOT THE ONLY ONE AROUND 2:36 YOU GET THE CHILLS

  • I HAVE SEEN THIS VIDEO LIKE 562,990 TIMES AND IT NEVER GETS OLD

  • FAFAPFAPFAPFAPFAP

  • Chuck Norris was playing this. Lol.

  • The form at 2:15 was just an AMAZING pattern!

  • holy shit...

  • The guy who beats this game in first try knows how to dodge rain

  • LOL, i couldn't even uderstand what was happening on the screen

  • Kinda sad that in the end the player ship had to sacrifice itself in order to kill that crystal-like core.

  • @kokosnootful

If that thing is the same Stone-Like as in Radiant Silvergun... it CAN'T be killed.

Or if it was killed... that would be a very BAD thing.

  • This game reminds me of the flash game Megaman Polarity with the shield that absorbs bullets of the red or blue color like this thing here.

  • @KyonV13 acctually, that game was based off this

  • @jimmy1updb That's pretty cool. Wasn't one of the songs also used in that Polarity game too or am I just crazy?

  • I've been seeing more of an anime called Strike Witches which use aircraft suits resembling WWII planes. I'd really want to see one of those that is like the Ikaruga!

  • its been a year since i played it, and i still crying with the ending ;A;

  • Is that the Stone-Like from Radiant Silvergun?

  • @wheelman1324 No it is not. Although the boss music is called "The Stone-Like" they are not the same. The reason you see this resemblance, as well as others, is because Ikaruga is a spiritual sequel to Radiant Silvergun. Both were made by the same company, Treasure. Answer your question?

  • @Lokiallen12345 The thing at 2:56 is the same shape and color of the Stone-Like.

  • @wheelman1324 Oh, I see what you mean. Sadly, I've never played Radiant Silvergun but I looked at the Stone-Like from it and you have a point. Though you still have to remember that this IS a spiritual sequel so they would use names and structures from their previous game. However, I doubt it's the actual Stone-Like. Besides, the boss is actually called Tageri.

  • @Lokiallen12345 I've never played Radiant Silvergun either. Just videos on YouTube. Luckily it's coming to XBox Live in a few days!

  • @wheelman1324 What?... WHAT!!... I need more Microsoft Points!

  • @Lokiallen12345 Glad to hear you're excited because I am, too. It was confirmed on Major Nelson's blog. It all just seems too good to be true. I just hope to God that this isn't some sick joke.

  • @wheelman1324 yes it is

  • through the whole energy max thing,.. it was like they were having sex!

  • "Please Rotate your Screen"

  • Umm, can someone please tell me who is playing? Ty.

  • LMAO. that shit was crazy at the end.

  • shit just got real

  • So it's like the 4th stage of touhou.

  • @dimomarg Touhou is SHIT-HOU.

  • @phrentik I see. Do you have any arguments to support that rather controversial view of yours? I'd really like to see the view of the haters.

  • best (and hardest) tutorial level ever

  • "Release the restrain device. Using the released power may result in the destruction of the ship.....

Was I helpful for you? I am deeply grateful to you."

  • @UnboltingFalcon Rule 3 of videogames: any hint on a possibility of a fact being indeed true instantly makes that fact true.

  • @dimomarg Unless the developer's a total dick. It's happened before...

  • Iv'e never seen a more badass spaceship since vic viper.

  • I want to try that out sometime. Also, I am tired of any fandom comparing a difficulty of one different game with another different game. Any of those games will have different challenges and styles of their own and I think they should be enjoyed the way they are. If you don't enjoy one game, there are many others to choose from. I really enjoy the Touhou series, but I also respect anybody who can complete games like this as well without continuing.

  • @kitsuneboy1222 I will have to agree with this statement. There are many other people like you who have realised that, all though a game may fall into the Bullet Hell Shooter category, it still won't play like the others. Infact when i think about it. It's only really the Touhou series that seems to be consistent with it's playstyle. Compaired to Treasure and CAVE anyway.

  • @CFkimahri Agreed. Most bullet hells are entirely different, with the only similarity being bullets. They will have different patterns, different scoring systems, different mechanics in gameplay, and overall they will just feel different. Even Touhou will have variations, or different "features" from one game to another. Yet, people persist on telling me they are all the same, even though they don't play bullet hells and therefore don't even have the experience to backup their statement.

  • @FetusZero Well let them see Hellsinker. Then we will see who's lauthing.

  • @matteste Hellsinker is evil -_- Pretty good game though, but still evil lol.

  • Thanks for posting the ending :D

Too bad I can't read japanese.

  • press start?

    no, thank you.

  • KAMEHAMEHA MOTHERFUCKER!!!

  • this is one of those games they should give people money for completing.

  • i love this boss. 4 phases of madness it truly deserves to be a final boss :)

  • Wow. I'm easily impressed by bulllet hell superplays and stuff, but being able to play THIS good in Ikaruga must feel like a spiritual experience of some kind. It's like watching a talented painter or musician at work.

Man... where the fuck is my Dreamcast?

  • @HomingMissiles It's on XBL, dude.

  • @HomingMissiles I agree. I've played Touhou games, even won some spell cards; Ikaruga isn't really easier or harder, it's a totally different KIND of challenge. There's not another game out there like it; not that other games are inferior, but that none are in the same classification. Winning Ikaruga is not terribly difficult, but conquering it this completely is a masterstroke.

  • @johannhowitzer Heh, "even won some spell cards." I should have said "even won some Last Words." Yeah, it's late...

  • @johannhowitzer - how many hours do you put into a game on average (or precisely if you know) to think 1CCing them isn't difficult? or are you just super at these kinds of games?

  • @JustSomePerson888 Well, I can't really compare my own talent at these games to others, since I can't be in anyone else's body... but having played both Ikaruga and Touhou quite a bit (maybe 100+ hours?), I get the sense that they're about the same difficulty, just a different "flavor" of difficulty. Also, what is "1CC" - surviving a stage without losing a life? On the easiest difficulty setting, that isn't hard in either game at all (notice I didn't specify difficulty).

  • @johannhowitzer - ah, right. yeah, that'd be easier! and yes i meant 1 credit completion, maybe it isn't so much the norm now / here, but usually on fan sites and that kinda thing it's taken that scoring or whatevers else (completions etc) means no continues and the default settings of the game.

hence why i asked, cause this game is way hard on those! i wondered how many times folks that can complete it that way play it through. cool, cool.

  • @JustSomePerson888 Well, one thing that I think helps is that I play the piano. This and piano are very similar skills, it's largely memorization. When you know what's coming up, you're much more prepared. Ikaruga and Touhou are both to some extent just knowing where the blind spots are. Human imperfection plus bullets based on your position does equal some variation even among predictable patterns though, so you can always be caught unawares.

  • @johannhowitzer - good point, piano playing is damn hard. one of those things i was forced to learn but of course never from a teacher that taught me anything properly or used enjoyable tunes....only time i was any use at it, was when i had good tunes to play...blues and classical, i liked those best.

  • @johannhowitzer - plus it's the two hands / two brain hemispheres doing different though co-ordinated actions that makes piano playing grow good brain network paths. same reason kids should all be taught to be ambidextrous when being shown how to write and paint, otherwise there's a dominance of one hemipshere over another.

  • From what I remember, some says that Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga are both about cycles. Radiant Silvergun is about cycles by itself.

Ikaruga is about breaking cycles. Each level is sort of symbolic by the names: Ideal, Trial, Faith, Reality, and Metempsychosis.

  • @Raiden7284677 explain.

  • @leopower7 That is what I'm trying to figure out. Mostly the theme for Ikaruga.

  • @Raiden7284677 Dude, it's just about shooting stuff.

  • @riles666 the extremely detailed and intricate story as written in the intermissions and in the (EXTREMELY long) prologue as found on the original release would beg to differ.

    Hell, it's complete with dialogues!

  • @Evrain64 But this is a game, not a film, a book etc. A game. And a game is an activity defined by rules. What is important is the rules (e.g. pressing up moves your ship upwards) The story is only there for the atmosphere. What we enjoy is learning the mechanics of a game and then going up against numerous challenges using our newfound skills with these mechanics. There is no way you enjoyed Ikaruga for the "story".

  • @riles666 I'll be one of the first to say that the gameplay (and anything that affects it) is the most important aspect of a game, but acting as if that's the only reason to enjoy a game is silly. You can enjoy it for its gameplay, story, graphics, audio, and whatever else it features. Enjoying one quality doesn't prevent you from liking others.

Also, it's entirely possible to enjoy a game's story without actually enjoying its gameplay. The story isn't dependent on the gameplay and vice versa.

  • 2:18 Holy.... CRAP!! o__O that was awesome !

  • This is easy near Mushihimesama Futari

  • I'm used to Touhou and Mushihime Futari.

    This blew me away.

  • Holy s--t. This was nothing like what I thought it would be.

I wasn't expecting a shield that can take hits.

I noticed halfway through that it can only take one kind of bullet at a time.

  • around 4:20

Ikaruga:Release the restrain device. Using the released power may result the possibility of destruction of the ship.

You did your best. Was I helpful for you?

I am deeply grateful to you.

  • That appears to be demo gameplay like the computer is doing that. If this is an actual player... THAT DODGING AND SHIT IS AMAZING!!!!! NOT ONE DEATH!!! I was so anticipating one or two but wow no deaths the whole level!!!!

  • doesn't matter if you're black or white....

  • Pro...just Pro!

  • @DobryWujekChupa Shitty? OMG THIS GAME IS F***ING EPIIIC!!!

  • @blowfishlol dat game is shit

  • i find it funny how the first minute is the the part before the actual stage even starts

  • That last part made me want to rip my eyes out.

  • i find this game to be so hard and to watch it get played like this makes my brain hurt

  • Did Anyone Else See Starfox Assault in This

  • imagine having to be the guy who paints the ship black and white everytime lol

  • @wevil28000 You just made my day

  • Thats awesome my Afghan Rebell friend.

  • ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX ENERGY MAX

  • energy max. energy max. energy max energy max energy max ! oh ferget it.

  • I wonder if the last boss (the was one before the Stone-Like thing) was Tenro. According to the story, Tenro was the one who ruled the Horai and found the power to create all these enemies.

  • @Raiden7284677 are you sure its not called 'Tageri'?

  • @TheDarkLord167 Why do you say that?

  • Comment removed

  • @Raiden7284677 oh i played it on the xbox and it said the bosses name is tageri... im not sure if people who speak english are doin a mix and match

  • @TheDarkLord167 'Tageri' is the name of the Butsutekkai, Hourai Tenrou is the pilot.

  • i have no idea what just happened... but it was awesome

  • can't you go entire game without shooting? (outside of brick maze in level 2)

  • 2:16 to 2:45...Simply amazing

  • @curtisb3000 I have to second that!

  • ...FUCKING WOW....!!!!!!!

  • at the end i was like HOLY SHIT THE UNIVERSE ENDED!!!!

  • why do you die at the end i never understood that when i played the game

  • @aguppie The main character and the ship's AI sacrifice themselves in order to basically redline the ships guns and fire a zillion homing layers in order to destroy the villain's power crystal thing that was the source of his power or whatever.

  • @Munusculum thats just lovely i was kinda sad at the ending lol

  • @aguppie yeah when i saw the end when i was a child for the first time i cryed cuase i thought i died xD

  • Best part is at 2:11

I was like.. Holy SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! 8O

  • Passing it isn't impressive. Getting that S++ with that much skill and chain IS. Damn.

  • "YOU DID YOUR BEST. WAS I HELPFUL TO YOU? I AM DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO YOU"

If you got this far in the game in one sitting, that will make you cry, I guarantee it.

  • 44 people forgot to switch polarities

  • Oh Gawd, doesn't your brain hurt afterwards?

  • video : "energy at max"

  • 2:20-2:45 Probably one of the most tense and epic moments in gaming history.

  • What did those teckens mean at the end?

  • thats fucking awesome. now go outside -_- lol

  • Absolutely unreal, man.

  • Hell yeah. That's for Radiant Silvergun, you stupid rock!

  • american version: game completed

    japanese version: tutorial completed

  • @theARACHY266

If you were actually looking at the text you would know that this was the Japanese version.

  • 2:21-2:41 extreme tennis

  • I'm playing the demo right now and I find it easy to stick with one polarity and avoid the other without switching polarity because it makes me confused switching back and forth

it's the blue i stick with

  • @natixeboom

Not a good idea to do that if you're playing for score.

  • @jaranarm but to me it's not about the score, its about surviving without getting my ass blown off

  • @natixeboom Good luck doing that on level 3 or above. Or on any level at the hardest setting:)

  • Wait... You die?

  • @encfam Yes.

  • @thedarkone2134 That is a clich'e. Main character dying in the end. Oh well.

  • I DONT UNDERSTAND I DONT UNNNNDDDEEERRSTTAAAANNNNDDDDD

  • You sir are some kinda robot.

  • one word: awesome

  • lol this reminds me of that level on kingdom hearts 2 the nobody dragon boss you have to absorb energy that the enemy is fireing at you then you shoot back with a stronger attack

  • I complete this game o hard with infinite continues then i watch this and i sit down, and re-evaluate my gaming skills...

    man i suck

  • @jutheto nah man you dont suck i did the same thing and we dont suck we just need extra help
