barna perfected the backhand-don't forget this was well before sponge and stroke technique particularly the chop was the rule of the day-my dad watched barna play many times in england and he used to tell me stories-despite being injured in a car accident in 1935 which required a platinum plate in his right arm-he was never quite the same after although very competetive thru his forties.my opinion is that the game was more enjoyable to watch before the deceptive sponge bats.love the video.
My dad was rated in the top ten table tennis players in Minnesota and played with some classic local heavy hitters like Doug Mayday, Alan Goldstein, Brandon Olson and Charlie Disney (all on par with Dick Miles). My dad revered Barna. My father would spot me 15points and beat me every time - and I was better then than now and a vast majority of people can't beat me.
@VS08540 its feesable i could beat him, the technology has moved on a hell of a lot rubber wise and technique, and iv beaten seniors in the top 100 b4
I don't know your level, but you'd have to be a serious club player to have a chance against Marty Reisman - even today, he is still playing around USATT 1900. The best hardbat players have a higher rating than 98% of tournament players using "modern" rubber. Technique is more important than equipment.
@ttstefano92 you are an ignorant piece of crap. You are the scum of the earth and you should die. These are the two greatest ping pong players of all time and would beat your whiny little ass like it was their job
They look funny XD

@billalphonso79
Barna died in 1972.
Marty Reisman lives in New York and still plays hardbat - there are some recent clips on YouTube (Letterman show, interview etc.).

fascinating!!! They break a lot of modern day rules (such as staying low) but it's still a very high skilled match.
