Perfect main landing gear touchdowns. Awesome demonstration team. I love the Blue Angels so much I fly an RC F-18 EDF by Nitro Planes. It handles so well. Thanks!
Up until last year I lived about 2 miles from Oceana NAS and every day the Super Hornets would fly over us. I never got tired of it, and I sure miss them now.
On Friday before the annual air show there, we could sit on our patio & watch the Blue Angels practice practically on top of us. It was a bigger thrill to me than seeing their show.
@Exzeluke thank you I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Ahhh Oceana... love the place. I was there for a week in 2007 for the show. The neighborhood just off of Oceana Blvd near RWY 23, we'd sit there by the train tracks and watch the practice and I always said... wow, I'd love to live in this neighborhood. Haha :D
I went by El Centrol on my way to San Diego on February 13, earlier this year, and I saw them practicing their routine, it was the coolest thing I've ever seen!
I got a chance to see how they land for a change..why do they hit so hard? Is that kind of like the jet their flying-characteristic? Maybe someone can give me some insight? Hoping to know...
p.s. the ? how long do they practice...lmao at the answer given!
Sort of... They demonstrate the manner that they have to land on the carrier... it shows the capabilities of the F/A-18 as well - having very robust and rugged landing gear which was designed just for that purpose.
any one can tell me the umm training schedule? i live near elcentro california and id seen videos about the trainning, can any one please tell me what days an what hours the blue angles have trainning??
It changes from year to year so nobody knows for sure when the over the field practices will be just yet. I'll post an update soon as they move into that phase.
Right, but not all those practices are initially on the field.
This year theyre taking sundays off. We do have a new development, team is flying over the field now - on thurs & sat. Eventually all the practices will be over the field, but we arent at that point yet. Probably will be in the next 2 weeks.
So how did you like being stationed at NAFEC? I love the place, but I imagine being stationed out there it's probably a love it or hate it thing. Especially if you come from a large city.
I hated it while I was there. Had nothing to do with large cities. A lot of it had to do with my being young, I guess. It was an awesome experience, and I look back fondly at those years. Had some good times in spite of everything else. When you go a time of suffering, I think when you come out the other side and have a chance to look back, it has a special place in your heart.
Training starts tomorrow, January 5th. They'll be training until the first official show March 14th (also at El Centro). As soon as I know what it is I will definitely message you. At this point the team hasn't even made known what days they will eventually be doing their over the field practices. As you probably know they'll first be out at Shade Tree learning the basics and I can imagine they won't plan the field stuff until they're totally comfortable there first. :) Thanks for the comments!

They practice every day, except weekends I believe. I was stationed at NAF El Centro about 10 years ago, and that's what they did then.

Where is a good place (off base) to watch the practices? I'll be in El Centro at the end of the month.
