  • haters cant hate this

  • It must have been an honor to sit or even be in his presence *0*

  • He's like the king of anime, just like Elvis is in rock and M Jacson in pop!

  • G O A T!!!!! greatest of All time!!!

  • Hayao Miyazaki, you made my childhood.

  • John Lasseter is the luckiest man alive, sharing the same air as Miyazaki.

  • if he come to indonesia, I'll specifically learn japanese just to say "Miyazaki-san, you're awesome and you made my childhood full of fantasy"

  • please tell me it would not be amzing if he did an kingdom hearts thing with all his movies it would be awsome an young hero traveling to the differnt worlds meet iconic heros like howl, sophie, sheeta, ect.

  • Amazing man. Just amazing.

  • someone tell me is he still alive ?,and can u prove to me evidence that he is by a video of him in 2011 or somthing:(

  • @Shermen34 don't worry man, he's still alive and well ;). he has a new film out even, it's directed by his son Goro, but he is still involved in the planning and screenwriting. too bad it isnt in theatres over here though, sadly :(

  • @PuckettJp2 his son already epicly failed once, i hope porco rosso II will be awesome

  • Miyazaki is a GOD

  • i find it so funny how pixar, the best 3d animation studio in the world, makers of ..well pretty much all that matters in 3d animation, draws so heavy inspiration from that genuis that goes by the name miyazaki.

lasseter knew right from the beginning where to look for examples.

miyazaki's work is beyond words. you simply dream it.

  • An amazingly brilliant man. He's the reason I want to be a writer and filmmaker. I hope he lives a very long time so that we can enjoy more of his films.

  • Great creator terrible human being

  • @futureanimatior O.o Why's that?

  • @futureanimatior Would you mind enlightening me?

  • @futureanimatior

Um, why is that? Unless you have a good reason.

Hayao Miyazaki is the greatest creator and human being on Earth. End of conversation.

  • @futureanimatior WHAT? what do you mean? he's an amazing person :)

  • i saw him in comic con on the day he presented ponyo went and saw ponyo and saw him agian recognized me and waved hes a very shy person didn't get his autograph though

  • I like to think of Miyazaki as his own unique story teller, the comparison to Disney is made by many. Personally I think Disney limits animation toward a young audience, which I understand can have a wider appeal. Ghibli however creates stories which aren't so black and white, also not always geared toward a younger audience. I appreciate this as I get older. Growing up I loved Disney animation, now though I realized the world isn't do idealized. The world is more like Miyazaki films.

  • Walt Disney is the Miyazaki of America

  • My son (2years) just LOVES Ponyo.. and I love the rest of Miyazakis films so...

GOD Id love to have been there!

  • If you see his profile on Rotten Tomatoes, you'll find that Howl's Moving Castle is fresh with 86% viewers liking it. And that percentage goes up for the rest of his films.

  • he's the Walt Disney of Japan!!!

  • @sosha20 Actually people only call him that because his movies have a lot of magic to them the real Walt Disney of Japan was OsamuTezuka.

  • @futureanimatior blah!

  • He is so awesome there is no dislike in this vid

  • pixar is nothing compared to Miyazaki

  • @silvermoonredmoon That's kind of harsh I know what you mean. But Pixar still does an amazing job with their films.

  • @futureanimatior meh, none of pixar's films can compete with Miyazaki's films Ponyo is million times better than up.

  • @silvermoonredmoon Pixars have excellent 3d animators, great artist work in that company...they put love in to there movies, the same way Miyazaki put all he got in to his movies.

  • @RunnersHighz it's not about 3d animation or whatever you call it to me it's about story! and Miyazaki's have much more compelling story in all of his film compared to every pixar's. but hey i'm not trying to argue with you obviously you and i have different taste about certain thing.

  • @silvermoonredmoon I never said that they weren't. I'm just saying Pixar, is still a great animation company.

  • japenese colonel sanders!

  • His health is scaring me.

  • Mizaki-san is such a freaking GREAT AWESOME SPECTACULAR GOOD SUGOI STORY WRITER!!!

I've recently watched Spirited Away, and I cried my eyes out. Not necessarily because it's sad or anything but it was just so beautiful, and I've never, ever seen ANYTHING like it. :) Ponyo is a great movie too. XD

  • Miyazaki kinda looks like Colonel Sanders here.

  • I just envy the people who had the honor to see and hear Miyazaki-sensei live! He is a GOD of Anime World. His movies are master pieces beyond time! And Joe Hisaishi is a music Genius his soundtrack are Epic!

  • wowww really wooowwwwww

  • I thought he is the original KFC guy

  • @ThisIsDream fail.

  • John Lasseter AND Hayao Miyazaki in the same place?! How hasn't the world exploded because of this confluence of animation genius and fans?!

  • i haven't seen the entire interview from comic con but does anyone know if he's going to make another film after ponyo or is ponyo the last?? i just can't get enough of his films!!! i'll be depressed if ponyo is his last.

  • Real Legend!

  • I also went to the first public screening at the movies in the Gaslamp District of San Diego later that night, we lined up right after the panel and he made an appearance at the premiere also.

  • I was there. Extremely hard to get in, I waited at like 5:00 in the morning just to see him and had to go through all the other panels, but it was definitely worth it!!

  • AWESSSOOMMMMMEE I WISH I WERE THERE!!

  • The older movies he made kick the new one's ass.

  • he's a genius and the master of his craft

  • legend..

  • I LOVE HAYAO MIYAZAKI.!!

  • Long live Miyazaki....I first saw My neighbor totoro when I was like 3 or 4 and I've seen most since...he's probably one if not THE best animator of all time

  • hayao miyasakiiii

  • 大好きです

    尊敬してます

  • @piglarva I kind of agree with the fact that it's immpossible to match Disney's Classics and I still see Osamu Tezuka, creator of Astro Boy a million times better then Miyazaki.

  • @futureanimatior never liked Disney Classic but it was the only choices when it comes to cartoon during my childhood and luckily it didn't last that long because it's kinda boring until japanese animation amaze and break open the creativity in me..

  • He looks like the japanese Colonel Sanders, lmao. Genius comes in all forms.

  • i know youre not trying to be mean, but i feel thats a lil insulting... im sure you wouldnt want miyazaki-sama to hear you say that.

  • The day the anime god dies will be a day that we shall all cry manly tears

  • i agree, but i personally feel that his films are animATIONS not animE. he deserves a better title for his groundbreaking films. but since he makes animated films, and is japanese, he will always be classified as an anime movie maker. :(

  • ok, its just an opinion... i stated that! so, you can fuck yourself! ok, that was just rude! and calling me names proves that your a rather low human being... what are you, 5? bitch please! get a grip, get a life, and go to hell in a flaming handbasket.

  • yeah thats pretty stupid but i don't think that anime are that bad. i mean weekly series like the ones in shonen jump do get animes too and they are only bad because the animators have to work fvery fast, even faster than the mangaka who actually draws the series. they do have to work under a tight schedule.and thats also kind of amazing.

  • @ChiiSan09 i agrre with u i feel that their animations and not anime just because they have shading in them their anime.

  • @ChiiSan09 His work is only anime because he's japanese. Personally his work looks more like a cartoon most of the time than an anime. I guess it's because he doesen't use big anime eyes and that a lot of times he will make his character have full drawn circle eyes. I can say the same thing for Naruto, Dragon Ball and One Piece. I know I shouldn't bring them up but they are more like a cartoon than an anime from the art style.

  • @futureanimatior im not going to dignify you with a real response because i dont agree with some of what you answered....

  • @ChiiSan09 All I said was his work is anime because he is japanese and makes japanese cartoons in Japan. His art is more cartooning than anime that's all much like a few animes so that's my answer and if you have a problem with it stick it up your ass!

  • @futureanimatior suck it you asswhore! they ARENT cartoons either. thats offensive! its ANIMATION. in its purest state. eatadick jerk off.

  • @Raxer21 - i agree how old is he now? he's the reason i want to be animator ever since i saw spirited away

  • @Raxer21 I think about that alot of times. Its just sad.......

  • @Raxer21 I will cry and i will not be ashamed for shed tears in memory of this unique person

  • @Raxer21 hopefully his son is as good as he is. Or maybe not...I just saw tales from earthsea (his son directed it). It wasnt great. It was more along the lines of mediocre.

  • @Raxer21 Very true let's just hope amazing new talent enters the anime buisness shortly.

  • @Raxer21 Miyazaki dying? Well good sir as you know gods don't die. They are everlasting and immortal, either it be in our hearts or history.

  • @Raxer21 Miyazaki dying? Well good sir as you know gods don't die. They are everlasting and immortal, either it be in our hearts or history.

  • @Raxer21 you said it yourself! hes a god!!! hes immortal dammit!!! IMMORTAL!!! D""X *denies sad truth*

  • lol

  • hayao miyazaki is the best ^^

  • Miyazaki-sama, your world has become my world. Thank you for all the inspiring movies you have created. Arigato gozaimasu!

  • Oh one last thing, it's not 'pon-yo' like Lassetter got off reading it wrong. It's 'pone-yoh'. Like Pony.

  • Yeah I know, omg, that annoys me. They pronounce it like "Panyo" when it's not like that - .-'

  • Joe Hisaishi=hee-sah-ee-shi. May sound like 'hee-sai-shee' because it is said fast rather than slowly annunciated. Lassetter called him 'hiz-eye-shi'

Hayao = High-yoww (like 'ouch') It's not 'Hi-oh' like Lassetter said.

Don't attach Disney Pixar with Ponyo, they only provide distribution rights. Ghibli refused creative collaboration. Think about why DP wants its claws in Ghibli so desperately -they are one of the few competitors without a member on their board. They have tried to acquire them.

  • Instead of getting angry with people when they pronounce things wrong, you should teach the right way, and we can pass it on. I'd laugh if I were you guys when we pronounce things wrong because it is probably so simple to you. If you help us, we can help others.

  • I did explain how it was pronounced. I can't explain how getting defensive and personally attacking me for my disgust at Lassetter's lack of professionalism, however.

  • @foxly007 lol get it right before you try and school other people

  • @sugarplumapathy get what right? look above at my reply to SaikoTaiko -I did teach the right way to say it. U r confusededed.

  • @foxly007 Well for one it's definitely not pronounced 'pone-yo' like pony. It sounds like the first bit in ponder with a british accent and softening the n sound, followed by yacht without the t. Still not accurate but as close as I can describe.

Also the Lassetter said hayao right, that's what it sounds like when you say it fast. It is DEFINITELY not pronounced 'high-oww'. I'd rather pick on the terrible accenting when he said miyazaki.

  • @sugarplumapathy Actually I speak Japanese. It is pronounced pone-yo, there is no other way to pronounce that in Nihongo. And which British accent do you refer to, because trust me Brummies and Scouses wouldn't say it like that. There's only about 50 British accents which differ noticeably. I'm in Britain, I'd know.

There is no soft consonant, it is PONE-YO. Really.

Hayao is pronounced HI-YOW. If said properly it can sound like Hi-yo because the 'a' isn't that noticeable when speaking fast.

  • @foxly007 Hurr durr Japanese is my first language so I know what I'm talking about. I only said british because I dont know where you're from, and I do realise that there are different british accents. I would have said australian accent, but alot of people don't really know what a proper aussie accent sounds like so I choose not to say it. But it really does sound like PONder in an australian accent minus the strong nnn sound at the end. I am aussie btw.

  • @foxly007 Also HI-YOW makes it end in a 'oo/u' sound, it's supposed to end in an short 'oh' sound. It is hard to try and find an english equivalent, because there really isn't one. Also because of our different accents we may perceive a certain sound to be completely different in terms of phonetics.

Still if you say the n/m sound in japanese is not a softer consonant than the hard n sound in english you obviously don't know much about japanese pronunciation.

  • @sugarplumapathy Then explain why PONYO in Nihongo is Poh-N-Yoh. If it were Pah-n-yo, it would be spelled Panyo. Right? I do know about pronunciation, I'm fairly great at it. Maybe it sounds soft to you, but if you can actually hear the letter 'n' it's not soft. In ancient Latin, for example, you don't hear certain consonants, but in Nihongo you do. Therefore, it is not a soft sound. You deliberately annunciate the 'n'. Japanese n/m are just as in English, not harsh at all, but you would know...

  • @foxly007 lol when ever did I say panyo? I've been clearly saying it's PON, note the OH. I'm just saying it's not PONE like pawn which you have been saying.

Now that we're getting technical the Japanese 'n' can be pronounced n, m, ng, and nn which comes from the throat. So you can't really say they all sound like english n, coz it sounds different depending what succeeds it. When I say soft, I mean less distinct, because it's not actually PON-YO, it's PO-NYO.

  • @sugarplumapathy Hayao is pronounced High-yah-oo, but said conversationally it sounds like High-yow and the 'oo' isn't really heard. It can come off like 'high-yo' if lazy on the 'a'. I really do know what I'm talking about. If Japanese is your 1st language, why flame me for saying Lassetter doesn't even try to pronounce Hayao Miyazaki or Joe Hisaishi's names properly? He is very unprofessional for someone who has met and spoken of them so often and tied his name to Ghibli whenever possible.

  • @foxly007 I must have said hayao fast about 10 times, and I still don't know how you get the yow sound. As I say there is no uu/oo sound as in yow, it's oh. Even said fast it ends in oh.

I agree Lassetter should have been a bit more prepared, but it's not like he was waaayy off for someone who can't speak japanese. Sure I cringed when I heard it, but it's not THAT big of a deal.

I was merely pointing out that people shouldn't try and school others without sorting themselves out first...

  • @foxly007 Well there really is no right or wrong way as Americans can't really say a japanese name that well but really there are different ways to say the name. As long as you get one way right that's all that counts so stop making a big deal out of it. Miyazaki doesen't seem to care how John says his name which he shouldn't because as long as you get it somewhat right that's all that counts.

  • @futureanimatior Wow, you're here as well. I've seen you in many Miyazaki video and you try so hard to put him down. What is the matter with you? I can see your nick is futureanimator, then be one humble and respectful animator, don't put other animators down because by doing that, I don't see any respect of your animation works if you do really become one.

  • Just gave it some thought, best way to break it down for people is in equivalent pronunciation with some context. In Japanese, for those interested, Hayao is Hah-yah-oh. Say that at conversational speed and you get Hah-yo, but if you know what the context is you won't get confused. Ponyo, if pronounced PONN-yo, should be spelled in Romaji as Panyo, because Pa in Japanese is 'pah'. 'Po' is always pronounced 'Poh' like 'O'. Saying Ponyo is pronounced Pahnyo isn't accurate & is confusing.

  • @foxly007 Again, I never said it's pronounced pahnyo. This is why I the accents, because in the australian accent we say pon like japanese pon, but with a more distinct nnu sound at the end, not pan.

But now that you stopped using yow and pone as examples I know where you're coming from.

  • Just thought you may be interested, Lassetter is a writer, he doesn't really do what Miyazaki does. He smear Disney Pixar all over Ghibli's work. You might mistakenly buy a later dvd release and think Lassetter collaborated -but no. No collaboration. Only distribution. Please do not attach his business relationship as distributor and promoter to Ghibli's originality and greatness.

Also, he mispronounces everyone's names, he has not taken the time to learn how they should be said.

  • Seriously? Yes, Miyazaki is absolutely amazing and I love every film of his, but must you really bash Lasseter like that? If I may correct you, Lasseter was the very first animator to come to Pixar when it first started, he animated Luxo Jr. and every short before entirely by himself. I respect both greatly, and their companies consistently produce high-quality animated films. Don't try to tear one down to support the other, there are plenty of other hack companies for that. (*cough* Disney)

  • And, might I add, (ran over character limit), yes, he should learn how to pronounce their names correctly, but that doesn't make him a horrible person in any way. And yes, Pixar-Disney just distributed their films, and you are right about where the credit of creativity should go to, but would you fly all the way to Japan to watch Ponyo? Never doubt the power of distributors, sir.

  • Yes I really must back Lassetter like that - he plasters his name all over films he produced but can't take credit for at Pixar. He acts like he deserves credit for being in a frame with Studio Ghibli's work when all he does is documentaries & interviews for them on camera. DISNEY is the distributor, Pixar is the liaison. A document floating around the web shows Studio Ghibli will only allow Pixar distribution & no creative input. JL was fired from Disney before he made Pixar. I'm not a sir.

  • Sorry for calling you a sir. I already knew that John Lasseter was fired from Disney before making Pixar; he suffocated under the bureaucratic atmosphere, and crossed one too many lines. And yes, he does put in his name in many films, but as the Executive Producer, and he is the executive producer for most of the films so I don't know how that would constitute plastering. (Plus, Lasseter directed over a third of all Pixar films to date.) I do agree with your other points, though.

  • you're not really making any sense. nobody ever thought disney, pixar or lassetter had anything to do with any of miyazaki's movies besides distributing them in the U.S. you act like just because EVIL WHITE MAN disney distributes his films means they want to take all the credit for his movies

  • Not really, I'm in animation myself. I don't deal with rabid fans. I certainly won't take your reply to change my opinion that distributors in the U.S. are and have long since been trying to buy out, collaborate and also smear their ANIMATION COMPANY logos all over Studio Ghibli's DVD's...not all of which are created my Miyazaki. It's mercenary. The documents of accord made between them to keep Disney and Pixar at arm's length are floating around the net. A biased fan shouldn't criticize.

  • god bless glorious nippon

  • @foxly007 y was he fired from disney

  • colonel sanders

  • I loved all of his movies, but my favorite would either be Spirited Away or Nausicaa of the valley of the wind.

  • He kinda looks like the Kentucky fried chicken guy.

  • Comment removed

  • Miyazaki is a fucking legend.

  • I know ; o; I actually cried a bit while watching this because I want to see him in person so badly...

  • Miyazaki waved at me personally will i was going to see ponyo

  • You're so lucky T0T I'd give anything for Miyazaki to acknowledge my existance, even for 2 seconds...

  • i tried to get his autograph but he is shy

  • @comic855 --- i think he is pretty shy, he's kinda cute for an old guy too

  • I just love that they're friends. Lassetter is one of the people in charge of Pixar, which is my favorite American animation studio, and Miyazaki is in charge of Ghibli, which is my favorite Japanese animation studio! :)

  • Miyazaki san your world is my true home

  • I really really really wish I had been in town. So heartbroken that I missed this.

  • kikis delivery service is my favorite from him after ponyo which i saw during the weekend that i loved!

  • Yay, I was there in the audience!! xD ((along with +6k other people))

My sister and I def. thought he looked like the Colonel when we saw him. :3

  • Saw Ponyo. Charming film. Japanese Colonel Sanders does it again!

  • Japanese Col.Sanders Imao.

  • lol you're right, I was just thinking the same thing! Miyazaki-sensei really does look like Colonel Sanders!

  • Kiki's Delivery Service is one of my all time favorite movies. Aside from Aladdin, Japanese animated movies take the cake.

Spirited Away is right up my charts too.

  • i love spirited away , it's what got me interested in anime art and to become a anime artist not only that but throught it i was able to recognize more of hayao miyasaki's art and movies .

  • Heh, Use ur mouse to go to 3:30 (Hold it there). Hayao Miyazaki is just amazing.

  • wow lol it's bright at that point like a flash happened ...cool

  • wow. . i just wish i was there to bask in his greatness

  • Spirited Away was my favorite movie from him, boy it brings back memories...I feel like crying Q~Q

Its been almost 5 years since I first saw the movie and 6 years since Kiki's Delivery Service!

  • same for spirited away , it touched my heart so much that i cried and with happyness , i truly thougth it the greatest film ever and wanted to be able to do that for others(make a nice film of anime to tough peoples hearts) ever since, lol i was the first to buy it in the whole town because it was a day early and they could see how much i loved it since i was always renting it lol

  • Go Miyazaki!! Man, this guy and all of the people he works with... they're amazing. Just amazing. <3

  • Does anyone else besides me think that he looks like the KFC guy in that outfit xD

  • you idiot, he's trying to hear the translator.

  • you idiot he's trying to hear the translator

  • For me it was kikis delivery service then porko rosso then howls moving castle then the others I fell in love with how detailed he was when he created all ofhis work and the stories are amazing! One day I hope to meet Miyazki san in peson and talk to him and maybe work for pixar with jhon lasseter one day too. huh a dream that might come true either way I can't wait to see ponyo its going to be amazing and heart warming

  • A lot of fans in Japan were puzzled because Ponyo is so simple and deviates from conventional story-telling way . Ponyo was certainly a movie for children as Miyazaki said. BUT, it is the work with which his moral elements are filled so much. In that sense, the one for the adult. If you have interst in classical music, you should check the musicdramas of R Wagner, and it helps the deep understandig of Ponyo motifs.

  • hun I grew up around classical music mainly all types of music thanks to family members who played in orchestras and so on but thanks I will and also to me miyazaki sees the world diferently than a great many would because he's an artist like me but then again he understands things more than me in everyway because of his age but sorry for rambling but thats what i see in him a man with many stories that still need to be told etc.

  • My kids are what they are because of Hayao Miyazaki. They are five and nine, and the younger one has been watching Ghibli movies since he was two. They think through drawing and stories and have great compassion because of these movies.

When we went to the Ghibli Museum I felt Hayao Miyazaki had made the place for my family.

  • He reminds me of a Japanese Dumbledore.

  • I love it! Miyazaki is a master and so awe inspiring!

  • lol J3eesica I would probably freak out. I love all his flims Howl's moving castle is my favorite.

  • Miyazaki + Hisaishi = gold. Spirited Away...

  • miyazaki is the best. ever.

  • i watch spirited away a few months ago which was my first miyazaki's film and became and instant fan. the attention to details are simply amazing. i love the part where the little girl put on her shoes. something so simple and yet.. just wow

  • If you haven't already seen Howl's Moving Castle, you gotta see it :)
