this solo has always been improvised. the solo on the album just happened to be the way he played it that day in the studio. you should listen to live recordings of the song before the album ever come out. telling him to stick to the "original" version is like telling a race car dirver to stay under 55mph

Many of David Gilmour's performances are improvised but he also sticks closer to the studio version on a lot of them as well.
