One year I found 3 dead birds in the yard month later my neighbor told me he seen the dog catch a low flying bird with his mouth and killed it but he wasn't happy about it. I guess that explains where the dead birds came from. I would never get any other dog than a husky. Very well behaved, easy to train, beautiful and most dont even bark which makes owning them a pleasure.
Also, my Husky loves cats. Except he loves their butts. Not sure why. He bounces his nose off my cats butt constantly.. Like he's poking her to play. But she ignores him, and he keeps doing it.. He's actually scared of her. He has no idea she doesn't have front or back claws.
What good doggies! Sorry to hear about your husky who is sick. I have an Alaskan Husky who has had a lot of health problems. It was a real struggle to keep him alive to be a year old. But the worst is over, and the most of his health issues are seasonal allergies and allergies to corn and 90% of dog food. Thinking of your puppy today.
May I ask how you dealt with the husky dogs and the new kitten ?, Did they ever try to chase the kitty down or bite it ? I know Husky's love to run and so a kitten would just be a lovely prey to chase. Is there any tips you can give me on how to let them get used to a kitty ?
Please be careful, huskys still have high pray instincts and might make a lunch out of the kitty, even after socialization they have been known to just randomly do it do to an instinctual urge

He finally died in spite of all their efforts, and no reason was ever found. He was only nine years old. It took my daughter a very long time to get over him.

Is Kobie a pure breed? He looks 1/2 husky 1/2 wolf dog and Artic looks more of a pure breed husky to me... But they're both lovely and so nice to the kitten... really curious XD
INITIALLY, huskies can be bad around cats and small, spastic animals because they naturally prey on and play with small things like that, BUT, being the highly intelligent and social animals they are, careful exposure *will* make for a safe and mutually entertaining relationship between a cat and a huskie. It's all about control and teaching. My husky Nikki will cuddle with all three of my cats, it's adorable.
@009013M3 Absolutely true. Both of my current Huskies, Merlin and Katrina were known cat killers when I got them. Merlin pretty much ignores the cats now, and I'm still working with Katrina, but she's at least trustworthy enough to be left alone with the cats for a while now.

@GoldenGamerNo1 - They're working dogs, bred to pull sleds for long distances, so they do have a lot of energy and do need lots of walks and exercise!

@Giannarosss2 - Thanks for the comment! I hope you are enjoying your puppy! It took lots and lots of patience with my dogs... patience and repetition are both important for training puppies. Positive re-enforcement is also very important (more emphasis on the positive than the negative- give more praise than punishment!) There are a lot of resources on the internet about puppy training, and many books too. Definitely read some articles, but some things i think are important:
@Giannarosss2 - 1. Never hit the dog, and try not to yell (yelling really doesn't do anything and sometimes they just think you're playing)
2. Don't call the dog to you to punish him. You want the dog to want to come to you.
3. A lot of problems like jumping on people or biting can be stopped by ignoring the dog or walking away. For example if he goes to jump on you take a step back so he can't, and don't give him attention until he sits down.
@p1nk5pider actually if a dog goes to jump on you you should really walk forward instead of backwards, walking forwards implies that it's your space not theirs
@rockthecasbah420 - That makes sense. Walking backwards worked fine for my dogs though, and i'd personally rather walk backwards to avoid dirty paws and claws on my clothes!
@p1nk5pider actually you are supposed to walk in to the dog when they jump on you, that way they get off of you. Just backing up while they have their front paws on you will take longer for them to get off because they will just walk on their hind legs. but yes ignoring them will get them to figure out what they are supposed to do if you reward them for it.
My husky is an outside dog (except in cold weather and at night when he goes in the dog room). Anyways, since we had him, we have gotten two indoor cats. But now my husky has killed 3 or so stray cats in our backyard so I am scared of making him into a house dog someday. :( I wish I knew how to make him accept cats, but I fear its too late since he knows he can kill them now.
from the looks of this video the kitty was more agressive than the huskies...lol. huskies are the best dog's, i absolutely love them!! My husky Haven (R.I.P.) was very good with my Kitties! i also have to say that i love your huskies as well :-)

Just curious, have there been any problems between the huskies and the cat since you posted this? My bf and I really want to get a husky but we already have a cat and from what we've read it's not a recommended pairing.
@Matchead20 No, no problems since. Huskies aren't aggressive dogs, but they can play rough. It can be a good or bad pairing but it all depends on the personality of the dog and cat. Our previous cat hated the dogs and wouldn't go near them. We have a gate to keep the dogs confined to the front part of the house, so the cat had free reign of the back half and could therefor stay away from the dogs. I would recommend doing something like that if you do get the dog.
@Matchead20 I have had a husky with cats, it is a very bad situation. It is not because of aggression, as already stated. It is because huskies have extreme pack orientation. A husky will attempt to play pack order games with any animal or child in it's domain in order to establish it's own place in the pack. The problem is that cats and children cannot give the husky the correct output of dog behaviors, so it will keep trying, all day, every day, forever.
@MilhausMN We cured ours of nipping kids' ears, etc. by having the smallest kid be the one to feed her. (8yo) I had to supervise for about 2 weeks. If she'd jump on the kid, we'd leave with the food. She learned to lay calmly and wait for any length of time for the kid to give her the go ahead to eat. She's killed several cats and I don't think the prey drive can be trained out of them. In this video, notice how intently the huskies watched the kitty, even tasting it at one point.
@Matchead20 If you are planning on getting the husky as a puppy, there should be no problems because the puppy will learn from the cat (believe it. lol.) My mom has two huskies and a cat and they cuddle with each other at night. :) I also have a cat that loves dogs XD and am getting a husky puppy myself. My mom's husky just had puppies, so I get one when they are old enough. :)

My husky is an outside dog (except in cold weather and at night when he goes in the dog room). Anyways, since we had him, we have gotten two indoor cats. But now my husky has killed 3 or so stray cats in our backyard so I am scared of making him into a house dog someday. :( I wish I knew how to make him accept cats, but I fear its too late since he knows he can kill them now.

from the looks of this video the kitty was more agressive than the huskies...lol. huskies are the best dog's, i absolutely love them!! My husky Haven (R.I.P.) was very good with my Kitties! i also have to say that i love your huskies as well :-)

@p1nk5pider Thanks! i cant explain but i feel there is a reason they dont live as long as us,i think maybe it is to show us how special they are. does that make sense? yeah it is sad but we have to appreciate them while they are here with us :-)

Just curious, have there been any problems between the huskies and the cat since you posted this? My bf and I really want to get a husky but we already have a cat and from what we've read it's not a recommended pairing.

@Matchead20 No, no problems since. Huskies aren't aggressive dogs, but they can play rough. It can be a good or bad pairing but it all depends on the personality of the dog and cat. Our previous cat hated the dogs and wouldn't go near them. We have a gate to keep the dogs confined to the front part of the house, so the cat had free reign of the back half and could therefor stay away from the dogs. I would recommend doing something like that if you do get the dog.

@Matchead20 I have had a husky with cats, it is a very bad situation. It is not because of aggression, as already stated. It is because huskies have extreme pack orientation. A husky will attempt to play pack order games with any animal or child in it's domain in order to establish it's own place in the pack. The problem is that cats and children cannot give the husky the correct output of dog behaviors, so it will keep trying, all day, every day, forever.

@MilhausMN We cured ours of nipping kids' ears, etc. by having the smallest kid be the one to feed her. (8yo) I had to supervise for about 2 weeks. If she'd jump on the kid, we'd leave with the food. She learned to lay calmly and wait for any length of time for the kid to give her the go ahead to eat. She's killed several cats and I don't think the prey drive can be trained out of them. In this video, notice how intently the huskies watched the kitty, even tasting it at one point.

@Matchead20 If you are planning on getting the husky as a puppy, there should be no problems because the puppy will learn from the cat (believe it. lol.) My mom has two huskies and a cat and they cuddle with each other at night. :) I also have a cat that loves dogs XD and am getting a husky puppy myself. My mom's husky just had puppies, so I get one when they are old enough. :)
