@TaroGabunia That is your welcomed opinion, yet for me,,,, Steve M. broke Blackmore's sound barriers. That being my opinion, I can't think of anyone who is as talented as Steve is and yet having the ability to complement the Purple without self inflated ego. Is it possible that you would agree with me?
fairlanejay I partially agree with you and think that it may come from the fact that he is playing Richie's repertoire to a large extent and thus even in his efforts to find his own marks he is defining himself by the extent to which he can create a new image and sonic signature but because he is reacting to or against a stadard he inevitably is defined by it.
Steve is obviously a very good guitarist, but something I've noticed his playing is almost antiseptic, perfect in execution, but lacks style, im not sure whats missing but it almost sounds like hes a session player come out of the studio onto the stage.
steve is an underrated ,somewhat unknown guitarist that in my opinion stands up to anyone as far as technical playing ability and tone and improvisional style. Looks sort of like Ted Nugent up there! I saw them open for the Scorpions and I couldn't believe how he shredded that guitar and did Blackmore extreme justice on those songs!
@shellyssa Steve is weird. On his own stuff, i.e. the steve morse band, he does stuff on guitar that makes blackmore look like a beginner. Yet here he doesn't sieze the oppty to make this song his own. I don't get it. Anyway, I've been following steve since '78 and blackmore since'74 and I can tell you steve is 1000 times the guitarist blackmore is BUT only in his own band.
I have to admit I thought steve mores was a strange fit to be in Deep Purple, but he is just what they needed. He's not some old rocker resting on his laurels, he is still kicking ass and playing on the cutting edge. He did for Purple what Warren Haynes and even derek Trucks are doing for the Allman Brothers. Giving them that guitar sound that puts them above the rest, the way they started out.
I don't agree. Steve Morse is so awesome. Sure alot of the best riffs were written in the early years and that is credited to Blackmore. But, I think that could apply to any band...they usually do there best work in the early years. However, Steve holds his own and is so talented. I love his solo work and the Dixie Dregs. I love to watch him perform...he always has a smile on his face.

Steve Morse is a great guitar player and musician but he will have to live 10 lifes to get even near Blackmore`s presence, charisma and genious musicianship. As a matter of fact, DP without Ritchie is like Rolling Stones without Keith Richards AND Mick Jagger. Total waste of time.
i dont think hes good enough for deep purple.they lost a lot of the drama when steve morse joined and became very ordinary.think the band are getting along a lot better though
No one but Richie Blackmore sounds like he does, but if Steve Morse isn't good enough for Deep Purple, then nobody is. I guess it's a matter of taste, more than of being good enough. By the way, i prefer Richie Blackmore too ;-)

It's Ritchie Blackmore who rules--not Steve Morse ! Morse is only the guy who plays Ritchie's parts. That's okay guzzo0. You're probably just too young to have known. You should check out some Deep Purple videos from the early '70's
Some of you would probably like to kill me, but I say that Deep Purple is way better with Steve Morse. This band is just like the good wine: as older, as better. :)
Awesome! Purple still giving them heck! Steve Morse has replaced Ritchie well, even though Blackmore is still the best they had. I relate better to Morse, just because I'm from a younger generation. XD
@yarddartincident I'm not sure what you're sayin', but at the time I was watching this (4 months ago) that Neil Young lyric popped into my head. I'm sure it was brought on by seeing how different DP looks/acts now compared to say 1969. Of course that is to be expected, everyone grows old and "uncool" by modern standards. It's not like you stop being cool, but rather cool stops being you, so to speak... anyway DP is my favorite band either way.
Even Ritchie Blackmore says Steve Morse is "difficult to fault" and that is high praise from the master - Iv'e played for 20 years and can only dream of being that good!
Girls, Please! Leave guitar playing to men. We use any and every influence in our live playing! Quit bitching and play your damn guitar like you have a pair!
hmmm... "blindmellonchittlen" you really think you can keep up with someone when its pretty clear you channel is a junk and your criticize ernieball's (Videos) when you have nothing? who are you? well that's the thing, this is the internet you can just stay anonymous and run away with out anybody knowing you, you would say crap like you did in person or if they knew who you where....

ahh this must be a joke right? "don't call people idiots"? what have you been saying to me is far more offensive language, its sad people like you are incapable of listening to your self & always pointing out the negative in others, your so self centered i bet your life is pretty sad.....and you get a LIFE!! and next time you want to argue with someone, do it correctly because all you look like is a complete idiot.... and as you are one your going to keep on replying with crap 7 more crap.
i don't give a crap about money, you think money = no musician.... you don't have a clue whats soul since music is not money, its about enjoyment & playing with other musicians.... you must be a bedroom guitarist(which i doubt you even play guitar) so i suggest you shut your mouth if you can just speak crap and not show you can play.

I admit it , I dont have a band right now either, and never pretented to. Working on alot original stuff. Ive been asked to join groups but doesnt fit into my lifestyle right now. Hey, being serious im not an asshole, I enjoy music like yourself, but like the more bluesy players. It seemed every time I was in a music store someone was showing off with some morse Licks. That style you have just isnt moving, most people couldnt care less how fast someone is. When i saw your vid it was like, this guys showing off. Dont call people Idiots.
