How does kicking that thing make you a douche? Maybe you'd be a douche if you had had a few too many beers before, and that kick was preceded by the words, "Ill fight anyone on this street." Anyways, that thing would probably reach my neck.
@StudentOfObjectivism Ok, so well if we triangulate that height with the exact position of the sun in the hour of the kick. And we figure out when Jupiter was aligned with Pluto. And suppose that the moon was in the Seventh House and Jupiter was aligned with Mars... We will figure out that your height reaches about to my...chin.
@WarVideo so you are about 6'4"? Or am I misreading the erogenous cycle of Mars? If your chin is 5'7" high then I'm pretty sure I can do a jumping kick that reaches above your head. I've never formally measured the height of my highest kick, but there isn't a door frame I've walked through the top of which I couldn't kick.
@StudentOfObjectivism "Not that this is an important issue!" Ok well, in other news, where was that at? Is that thing at some theme park or do people in Korea just place random archade contraptions out on the street to entertain foreigners?
@WarVideo It's on the high street. Not completely random I suppose because it is just outside the doors of an arcade. They have similar machines outside the train station too.
@WarVideo I started doing it after watching a Bruce Lee season on TV, the thai boxing was the first school I found that offered it. Those were really good classes because there was loads of fitness, the teacher was very good and the other students were fun and friendly. It was a bit of a trek to classes though so I took up jeet kun do which was available in the city center. In retrospect those classes were a bit of a rip off but I do think jeet kun do, properly practiced, is awesome.
@WarVideo It's a bit of a mash up to be honest - it's kind of platonic. That said, his comments about the importance of stripping things down to the essentials are excellent. I like that he constantly tried to make techniques more efficient. The best thing I learned in my JKD class was how to change from applying an arm bar to applying a wrist lock/snap. I might make a video of that actually, it's definitely a very useful thing to be able to do.
@StudentOfObjectivism Cool, id love to see a video on that. But what do you think is platonic about it? From what ive seen he was against creating a system that would turn dogamatic and Ossifie. It was not a system, but a way of thinking about fighting, keeping what works for you from all systems, and throwing away what doesn't .
@WarVideo I can't remember well enough to explain; that's just the impression I remember from when I was into it. He was definitely against creating a dogmatic system though - as I recall he was quite emphatic about each student learning to use the techniques best for him (it doesn't make sense for a little guy like me to try to learn to wrestle against someone far larger, for instance) and being able to adapt his style to exploit the weakness of his opponent.
Is douche Korean for some kind of kickboxer?

@WarVideo Shit man, how tall are you?
StudentOfObjectivism 6 months ago
@StudentOfObjectivism Im basing that on how you look like standing next to the machine and how tall you told me you were.

@WarVideo It's hard to tell from that angle I think. The middle of the ball is about 5'9" high or thereabouts.

@StudentOfObjectivism Where did you learn that kick?
WarVideo 6 months ago
@WarVideo I did thai boxing and jeet kun do for a while as a teenager and at university, but I think I learnt that one from the TV!

@StudentOfObjectivism Cool, why did you choose those particular fighting styles?Anyways, I've always wanted to do martial arts.
