Yep, and this was their last song of the night. That's something they can't do anymore, play song after song without stopping. Nowadays they often take breaks, and Anette and Marco will tell jokes, speak to the crowd for a couple of minutes, play another song or two, take another break, etc.
Part of putting on a great show is being able to flow from one song right into another.
You must be thinking of Anette, their new singer. She really DOES suck at live events, whereas Tarja, the singer you hear in THIS video, was BETTER live than in the studio.
This Tarja/Anette debate is irrelevant. It's abundantly clear that the bassist Marco Hietala is the best rock singer of the band and he always sounds fantastic.
Actually Marco sounds pretty bad in this performance, he's usually much better. So no, he definitely WASN'T the best singer on the stage that night, where usually he'd be perhaps as good as Tarja for his style of singing versus hers.

Where did you read that she wasn't contributing anything to the music and never showing up for rehearsals? Why did they put up with her for a decade then? Umm there is a video on youtube of the letter that they wrote to tarja and it says it in there. But i understand you don't like Annette, can we agree to disagree on her being in Nightwish :) But i think they put up with it because of how amazing Tarja is! They kicked her out, because she never showed up in the studio when they practised or record a new song, she was to late for live shows and they all had to hurry because she was so damnd late, she took another plane to gigs, she disrespected the band and she cared more about money then the music. With anette the band can be an enjoying band again, not one that always has to take care of their vocalist.
If Tarja didn't care about the band at all, she wouldn't have cried at that press conference when she was telling about the letter they gave her. She was devastated and had no idea she was being kicked out. It was 10 years of making music together for nothing. As for practicing, she didn't need to. She was instantly good enough. She could practice at home if need be.
It doesn't matter how good you are, you have to practise new songs. You have to get the lyrics in your mind, find out how best to sing the texts and try to make a good song, it's now to train your voice. I am not saying she did know she was about to get kicked out, but they warned her several times before they took serious action. You only know what the press brought you, please, get more detail before anouncing. Btw, I don't have anything against you, since most think if i protect my opinion
They also should have sucked it up and ended the band, because without her, there is no Nightwish as it's SUPPOSED to be. Anette is a god damn POP singer, who is 38 years old and dresses and acts like she's still 17. It's totally annoying. Marco could have formed a band all on his own because he's an amazing singer himself.
Saland, Anette isn't a bad singer at all, listening to all of her songs. As a Nightwish fan (wich I am myself), it's just hard to get used to her. If they ended Nightwish, you don't come further at all, at least you can enjoy the other 4 then, if you just can't get used to Anette. I saw her twice, and she's getting better every gig. Just imagine how hard it is for her, getting into Nightwish with nothing else than bad comments. Support her, and she will get better for sure ;-)

You make a really good point. Instead, so many see Tarja as a "victim." That's not to say I believe Tuomas' version because there's two sides to every story, however something must have went on to fire their most well known member.

I know that she doesn't need to be exclusive to opera to be an opera singer. But in her case she never did one opera of her life. And that was my point. You can't be an opera singer if you never sang opera.
Is Tarja's site ran by Tarja herself? Very rarely is a band's (or general musician's) website ran by the actual band/musician. Tarja is NOT an opera singer. Compare her to a real opera singer of the same type (lyric soprano) and hear the difference. Even if she is an opera singer, she is unskilled in terms of opera.

Even if she is an opera singer, she isn't particularly good as one. She's great, if not outstanding, as a vocalist in a metal band. Judging by the standards of a classical singer, Tarja is rather unskilled. Her control over her vibrato seems nonexistent at times, and opera singers rely on sounding good in live performances, and Tarja's live performances are riddled with a good deal of live mistakes.

@Manoushka1967 I know this comment is a year old, but I cant help it I have to say something about that. You can say all you want about liking tarja better, but the band can survive without her. Tuomas is and will always be the best "asset" of nightwish, without him the band would never be the same and without him in the band I might not listen to nightwish again.

Yep, and this was their last song of the night. That's something they can't do anymore, play song after song without stopping. Nowadays they often take breaks, and Anette and Marco will tell jokes, speak to the crowd for a couple of minutes, play another song or two, take another break, etc.
Part of putting on a great show is being able to flow from one song right into another.

This Tarja/Anette debate is irrelevant. It's abundantly clear that the bassist Marco Hietala is the best rock singer of the band and he always sounds fantastic.

Actually Marco sounds pretty bad in this performance, he's usually much better. So no, he definitely WASN'T the best singer on the stage that night, where usually he'd be perhaps as good as Tarja for his style of singing versus hers.

doesn't matter, she's out of the band...the band still rocks while her new stuff is crap...this is not a great performance by her...I also hate this live performance with the "wonky" stuff she's doing with her voice. she would have sounded better straight like the album version...

I love Tarja but man she needs to stop getting all wonky in her live stuff, I think it's mainly her trying to sound different, instead of just singing it straight like on the albums. As far as her not travelling with the band, that was mostly her husband's fault, he didn't like her travelling without him.

She's about 10 million times the singer Annette is. She's 38 years old, tries to dress like she's 17, sings like Miley Cyrus' shitty pop style. She's been rightfully booed of the stage so many times. I totally agree Tarja's more fitting. But..they are more happy with Annette and i really like Annettes voice! Its just different. I also love Tarja's voice and wish she was still there. But there was more to the reason that they kicked her out than just her husband. Like the fact she never contributed to the music. And she never turned up to rehearsals. But anyway. As long as Nightwish are making great music who cares !!

Where did you read that she wasn't contributing anything to the music and never showing up for rehearsals? Why did they put up with her for a decade then? Usually, people don't put up with shit like that. I think the band members were just petty and crippled the band, not knowing what they were doing. Anette is a pop singer who thinks she is young again.

Umm there is a video on youtube of the letter that they wrote to tarja and it says it in there. But i understand you don't like Annette, can we agree to disagree on her being in Nightwish :) But i think they put up with it because of how amazing Tarja is! They wouldn't be as successful without her. Nightwish were very unique because of Tarja's voice! So. Anyway (Y)

They kicked her out, because she never showed up in the studio when they practised or record a new song, she was to late for live shows and they all had to hurry because she was so damnd late, she took another plane to gigs, she disrespected the band and she cared more about money then the music. With anette the band can be an enjoying band again, not one that always has to take care of their vocalist.

If Tarja didn't care about the band at all, she wouldn't have cried at that press conference when she was telling about the letter they gave her. She was devastated and had no idea she was being kicked out. It was 10 years of making music together for nothing. As for practicing, she didn't need to. She was instantly good enough. She could practice at home if need be.

It doesn't matter how good you are, you have to practise new songs. You have to get the lyrics in your mind, find out how best to sing the texts and try to make a good song, it's now to train your voice. I am not saying she did know she was about to get kicked out, but they warned her several times before they took serious action. You only know what the press brought you, please, get more detail before anouncing. Btw, I don't have anything against you, since most think if i protect my opinion

Anette is a god damn POP singer, who is 38 years old and dresses and acts like she's still 17. It's totally annoying. Saland, Anette isn't a bad singer at all, listening to all of her songs. As a Nightwish fan (wich I am myself), it's just hard to get used to her. If they ended Nightwish, you don't come further at all, at least you can enjoy the other 4 then, if you just can't get used to Anette. I saw her twice, and she's getting better every gig. Just imagine how hard it is for her, getting into Nightwish with nothing else than bad comments. Support her, and she will get better for sure ;-)

Those vocals are described as classical because she uses a lot of classical vibrato and sings in her head register which is typical of classical singing.
I know that she doesn't need to be exclusive to opera to be an opera singer. But in her case she never did one opera of her life. And that was my point. You can't be an opera singer if you never sang opera.

Is Tarja's site ran by Tarja herself? Very rarely is a band's (or general musician's) website ran by the actual band/musician. Tarja is NOT an opera singer. Compare her to a real opera singer of the same type (lyric soprano) and hear the difference. Even if she is an opera singer, she is unskilled in terms of opera.

Even if she is an opera singer, she isn't particularly good as one. She's great, if not outstanding, as a vocalist in a metal band. Judging by the standards of a classical singer, Tarja is rather unskilled. Her control over her vibrato seems nonexistent at times, and opera singers rely on sounding good in live performances, and Tarja's live performances are riddled with a good deal of live mistakes.
