I will always believe this is the most beautiful song ever written. There are multiple versions of this song available (I of course prefer the extended version) but they all are tops.
I just love robert in this video and i love this song. Robert is just so gorgeous! I have loved Robert and the cure for 24 years now and i know that it will never change. No one can compare to the cure. Everything that they do is just unique. No one has the class or the sound that they have. I love you Robert!
great band. always will be. they dont make songs like tis anymore. and its no emo dude. not even close. plus emo collectively doesnt have as many great songs as just this one band has produced. but i bet that it wishes it did. but then again they dont have a robert smith on their side......
One of Robert Smith's techniques is to record a minimalist guitar part and then tune the guitar slightly sharp and record the same part again. The effect is much better than what any chorus pedal could achieve. There's an organic quality to the slight oscillation that makes the part really stand out.
The thing is, I actually cannot remember. I realized after I posted it that I should have provided a source for such a claim. I should have said, "I remember hearing somewhere that..." Now I'm wondering if a Cure fanboy army will be at my house with torches. I'm intrigued by bands that use what I call a wall of minimalism. By that I mean that each part is incredibly simple but, when put together, those simple parts make a dynamic landscape of sound.
New Order was certainly one of the best as well, no doubt. How cool would it be see both groups playing in the same venue today? The "Super 80's Alternative Tour"... LOL!
I wouldn't say they created it, but I think they did have some small influence on emo at least. A lot of emo bands grew up listening to the Cure. They're much better than emo though, both lyrically and musically. Plus look at the video - they look like they're having fun! =].
The cure is definately my favourite band. What's up with the people, saying "you were'nt even born in that decade"? I'm 20 now , an why am I not allowed to love the cure with all of my heart?
When I went to their concert in munich,I cried my heart out. Not especially cause the songs we're so sad,no, they are just so touching. My heart just can't withstand Roberts voice...it makes me cry, even listening to their happier songs. Am I one of the "false" fans now, just because of my age? :)
dont worry about what other people think about you and your "faux fanerisims" some people just want to claim music as there own and they dont like to share. if music touches you all that matters is you and the music that you love nothing else matters really... especially if you are a musician the only thing that matters is if you are making the music that you love and not music that you think everyone wants to hear. god bless you and keep on listening its good for you.
I hope my Ex shows up at my funeral one day- my friends are instructed to play this if he does,,, Most depressing song of dispair EVER... No matter how long you look at the pictures, you cannot bring them back...
I wrote this book called BEAUTY: EXTINCT I see a lot of girls who eat less to be more pretty and more skinny. But they don't understand and nobody is out there to teach these young girls that the less you eat the more you lose your physical beauty. I give it out free and it is part of a campaign for beauty (physical beauty). If you want a free book just email me at rankotutu@yahoo and i will email you a pdf file. My full name is Ranko Tutulugdzija google me if you think this is a joke
I totally agree with you Ranko. Really good initiative from you, we need more people acting like you when we know a little girl with this problem and probably we all know one.
wow just a scan of recent comments and I saw both Emo and gay, not necessarily in the same post - how funny, all I ever liked about the Cure and particularly this song was the music and how it made me feel..... hopeful !!! which is weird for a goth band huh?!
When the Cure started in the late 70's, they were a New Wave act.. Their Albums 'Pornography' and 'Faith' are at least making the way for Gothic, if not Gothic itself, similar to Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie etc. at the time.
Later, the Cure recorded "happier" songs and albums, like this one from '87, but on the two albums mentioned above there isn't one single song that is not dark or gothic and they are probably their most artistic ones.
compared to what they wrote previously, it is a very cheerful one, indeed.. ;) A hundred years of blood Crimson The ribbon tightens round my throat I open my mouth And my head bursts open A sound like a tiger thrashing in the water Thrashing in the water Over and over We die one after the other Over and over We die one after the other One after the other "One hundred years", 1981
You're 17... You weren't even born in that decade.
I'm not talking about teenie-bopper emo. Look at Tiger Army or The Shins and tell me how this is really that different. This doesn't have a goth sound.
I still have the pictures of my ex wife and our kids on my desk,we are talkin 10 years and I've been single for 3 years because I don't settle, I'm only 33 and I just can't seem to find anything
how do u hate the cures lyrics?? thts whats makes them so original u fuckin tool!! great band better song just all around an original sound and meaningful lyrics thts what makes the cure so damn good
Its emotionally charged, slow paced, punk rock. The singer is wearing black eyeliner. Give one reason why you disagree with me, other the fact that you find the term derogatory.
Emo didnt exist in 1983 when this song was first released. it was classed as Punk, following in the mould of Sioxie and the banshees and the glove etc...
Emo did exist in the 80's; its a gothic subculture. It has more to do with style and sound than "13 year olds being annoying".
In fact, the reason you disagree with me is due to your limited understanding and prejudice. The user who said that the term wasn't main stream in '83 actually had a point. But the term was in use, even in academic study of gothic subculture, by '85.
The Hell The Cure started Emo, WTF, who said that? The Cure was Goth, very upbeat, the furthest thing from Emo. No I do not think Him had nearly enough Talent to be ranked with The Cure
Wat the hell does gay hoav to do with this song? its about love and infatuation...reminds me of when i was young and of my wife now. say the cure at texas stadium back in the 90s...thanks robert smith..u always rock!!!!
Jesus wept, I've just been through about 30 commetn pages here & you're all saying exactly the same worthless things, so I doubt you've much distinction as to what makes a good song. Why comment at all?
i could say the same thing about your previous comment. Why this irrepressible urge to say something totally rude just because some people liked a song enough to comment about it?
Like I said sometime ago, this is as corny as you can get, but we forgive Robert Smith cause he sure knows how to make corny feel good. Makes you feel alive.
now that u knew what i did with my ... ,,, d ONLY ONE that i will ever have, is carried by YOU ,,, i gave u the best of what i had and loved. Can't believe what this ONE turned 2 be now. Did i ever told u: the bird will never stop flying?
I've never seen this video before, but I love it. The idea of playing the song under palm trees on a freezing cold day with snow is the best juxtaposition, and the snowball fight at the end, after such a poignant song, is endearing.
Really good song, love it, so meaningful...
