Just thought I'd follow up and let you know what Owens-Corning says about the risks associated with melting the foam:
"Burning Foamular has toxicity similar to burning wood. Casual exposure should not be an issue, but we would still recommend respirator for prolonged exposure.
Owens Corning
GET TECH"
So we don't have to be so worried when melting the foam in the future.
More foam projects! But messteri is right: the mask you used is good for when sanding foam; not so much for protecting you from fumes.
Interesting, but I could find only anecdotal evidence for foam giving off fumes when heated; even pink foam's MSDS only discusses dust particles as a hazard. Because of the chemicals used in its manufacture I assume there are toxic fumes given off, so I've written to Owens Corning (the maker of pink foam) to get a definitive answer. I'll let you know.
Hey Jason, I love the videos but just wanted to warn you that the mask you are using is a particulate mask, and heating the Styrofoam lets out toxic fumes that that mask does little to protect you from. I would advise using a respirator rated for those fumes.
Love the foam vids, probably your better ones. As far as information goes. I like em

Perhaps the Foam Gun manufactures have some knowledge on the help risks of foam. For sure you need to have good ventilation.
Very toxic stuff especially to the hyper sensitive person to chemicals
