Thanks for the video. My son's car had the same problem. I was able to use the old hose which was stuck to the pcv valve as a sort of extension to remove the old valve by turning the hose with needle nose pliers, and used the new hose to screw it in. I didn't take anything else apart. It was kind of tight, but I got my hands wedged in there.
i have ford taurus it looks same as your sable and i have the same problem i will check that PCV hose and see if i have the same problem thanks for the video
Thank you so much for your comments but I do have another piece of advise, change out the PCV Valve when you change out the hose. They are available at Autozone for $6.00. They are a pain to get to and remove. You'll have to take one end of a radiator hose loose. The valve has a funny fitting on the end so I stood in the store and tried all the sockets. A 24mm deep socket seemed to fit the best. Hope this helps.
Whats the part number for ti just replaced that for someone our new one was reinforced also i was able to slide the bottom into the pcv grommet with a few hard shuves and with plyers with grips on the end was able to sqeeze that clamp and push up from the bottom to slide and lock it in place.
Got mine from a ford dealership part# YF1Z6A664AB thats the hose and kit part number.
I have a 2001 Taurus SEL in great condition and upon a check engine light that indicates vacuum leak possible I realized my damn PCV hose was just like yours lol now I need to find that updated version and to keep searching for other leaks!
did your light come? i have a 2000 mercery sable ls with the dohc motor and the light has came on. it sputters around 45 mph and i think keeps downshifting or somthing when i let of the gas i took the air filter box and batt out and have been looking at the hose it dont have the crease in it but it is very skinny
I've had a bad surging problem while the car is idle for quite a while. It runs very well otherwise. The rough surging while idling only seems to happen when I switch on the heat or a/c. I am going to try replacing the PCV and see if it helps. Thanks so much for this great video!
Great vid, had the same problem with the same hose... I laughed at the parts dept. at the dealership when I saw how Ford had re-engineered the thing to keep it from collapsing...
I'm looking as we speak for that exact hose and have bin everywhere and noone has it...not even dealers..I have a part number from motorcraft as original but want what you found...Where man?? I'm desperate..Junk yard ready cause of that hose......I have a 2000 taurus se and thats my part...where oh where man??
thank you so much for sharing this video I have a 2003 sable, and after seeing this video , and sure enough, it was the pcv hose....wow!!!!! the power of the internet
My 2000 Mercury Sable has been running rough at idle for about a week then started dying at stoplights. After looking for loose vacuum hoses and cleaning out the air intake and other parts, I found your video and there it was! My PCV hose was completely collapsed! I am going to the parts store this morning. It looks like a super easy fix from here on out. Thank you so much for your post!
Had the same problem with my Buick. Luckily the PCV valve is right on the front of the engine so i didnt have to take anything apart but still a pain in the ass to get that part since no one had it in stock.

nice video....my girlfriend has a 1999 sable DOHC DURATEC and hers kind of sputters and the loss of acceleration....i was thinking it was the spark plugs and wires......would you know how to get to spark plug 1,2, and 3 behind the intake manifold? also for future references showing how you took off the intake etc....would have been very helpful....to newbies to mechanic work......but the vid was very useful
@davlterr With engine cold, the manifold can be loosened without having to remove it. This may allow you enough room to get to the SP's on the back side. When replacing the pcv hose I did not have to remove the TB but could reach underneath the TB, check the condition of the pcv hose and work from there to replace the hose only. Before this fix the car ran like it was ready for the junk yard. I replaced SP's, 3 coil packs, & fuel filter & it was this hose that was the cure for me.
@jamlinc I enjoyed this video. I have replaced the pcv hose assembly with that U shaped elbow back in late 2006 and now it seems I have the same problems again. It's good to see they redesigned the elbow which is the weakest link in that assembly. Not looking forward to it, but I wanting it purring again the way it is supposed to. I too replaced a lot of unnecessary parts and the damn $22 elbow is the problem costing me hundreds with unnecessary parts.

Sure feels nice when you fix your car yourself and save money. Its a great feeling of accomplishment.
I was hoping to get a view at the actual location of the pcv hose and not just the intake assembly. Oh, well.
