It's true that there are musicians who will substitute facial agonies for real talent. Not this guy, though. Phelps is an absolutely brilliant guitarist (both as a fingerpicker and demonic lap-slide player) and superb singer/songwriter. Seriously, check out almost any of his recordings--they'll raise the short hairs on the back of your neck.

I saw Kelly Joe Phelps on a suggestion by my friend at a small club in Evanton, IL called SPACE. The sound was great, and we were completely enthralled by this man's presence, and the way he seemed to travel to other realms when he played, digging deeper and deeper into his psyche and imagination. He is a true artist!

Kelly Joe has been compared to Leo Kottke but his lyrics are much deeper and as a result the music touches the spirit. He and Leo are close technically but Kelly connects to a much deeper place. This song is simply too good for any words that could describe it. Its the child in all of us....

I agree, I didn't find him on here myself, but the version of 'Irene' they removed would've sold him so many albums and DVD's, it's a real stoopid move by his management to have them stripped... and a real pity that there's now only four or five live performances available on here from such a huge talent.

He played very near my hometown last time he came to the UK and another local, Robert Plant was there to see him, and talk with him after the show. He's a once in a decade type talent for sure

I've had the good fortune to see KJP live on four different occasions in the Vancouver, BC area. In addition to being an amazing artist, he's also one of the most down-to-earth guys you could ever meet.

I think that "Irene" was from his instructional lap-slide video, which is sold by (Happy Traum?) a separate company, so it probably wasn't his management that pulled it off. But I agree, every time someone pulls a video I get a bit disgruntled. Haven't seen him live yet!
