Casey and Steve were killed because Casey ditched Stu for Steve. Tatum got killed because she would drag Sidney away from the party if Billy was there. The Principal was killed early in advance to (maybe?) get the teenagers at the party to leave so Stu and Billy could take out the others. The cameramen was in the way of getting to Sidney.
