Hey Lidmotor, since the induced voltage is so high, it looks like your energy transfer is due to transformer action between the Lunchbox 'primary' and the pie tin 'secondary'. In other words, induction is causing this like you said.
If this is indeed the case, then you are drawing power from the batteries to make your light flash. Take away the pie tin, and the current draw on the batteries goes down.
I think that the energy is best defined as Tesla's Radiant Energy. It's the same stuff his famous radiant tower was built for. I would imagine that you could place aluminum plates or bucket over the lunchbox to capture it in caps, and pulse it right back into the box.
