I believe most of his studying is during the fight. However he is very knowledgeable of fighters tactics, strengths and weaknesses. He knew Oscar gets tired and fights tight. He knew Zab would eventually wilt under pressure. He knew Gotti had slow feet. He may not study tapes like Hopkins but he does know what his opponent brings to the ring.
