  • There is something truly good about the basic ways of doing things. This is truly good.

  • Thats just great. Really nice to see something like that being taken care of.

  • Well done to all those who put their time and effort into restoring this beautiful piece of heritage back. Angers me though that the 'powers that be' (I begrudge their power btw) will allow this and many other heritage sites to crumble away but once someone wants to restore these beautiful buildings they put stupid laws and regulations (and indeed costs) in front...makes me sick!

  • Awful music , amazing mill.

  • What exactly does the flyball governor govern?

  • @recoveringcultmember

The fineness of meal is dependent on the gap between the stones. This gap has to be regulated to suit the speed of the sails at any particular moment. A means of regulating the gap automatically was eventually devised. This is achieved via the governor. On gathering speed with increased wind the governor balls fly out causing a collar to lift on the spindle and to raise the tenter arm, which lowers the runner stone, (or raises it when the wind eases)
