I like how Tom Savini usually plays a victim of his own makeup FX in horror movies. He was the zombie that got hit by the truck in the 1978 Dawn Of The Dead also. His FX were also great for Chainsaw Massacre 2, Friday The 13th, The Burning, and Creepshow 1&2.

Bullet making that size hole would have been a slug. Depending on the gauge of the weapon the hole at that close range would be no bigger than the size of the muzzle hole. Done this same shot with a 12G slug through a piece of plexi glass into a water melon with the same effect. The plexi glass partially mushrooms the slug acting like a freight train moving at 900 fps exploding the watermelon just like the head.

Why didnt the girl check to see if he was ok? She may have been able to save him if she applied some pressure on the wound. And she could have driven away to a safer place before Mr. Maniac got into position to shoot her, and then continue to administer first aid.

People survive gunshot wounds to the head all the time. He may have been saved if she acted fast. She could have covered the wound with some clothing. She didnt even ask him if he was alright? He was probably in a lot of pain.
