@pelsification Don`t look where the max power is. Look where max torque is. The best acceleration will be when you change the gear up while your engine revs drop on the max torque revs. Excellent bike by the way. Cheer.
What brand of oil do you use in your bike ? And how often do you change it & filter. You have a fair amount of miles ? Or Km on the bike. I read that on a post you did. 100,000 Miles is a lot. What all part have you changed out if any. Thank's, yl
@evh190 You said it yourself :-) It's a 2nd trip odometer. I have reset it when I bought the bike so that I can see how far I have ridden since I bought it, and the other one I use for keeping track of my fuel consumption. You can also use it on vacations to see how far you have ridden on a vacation and so on.....
@MrBlahcorp It is from 1995. Good to know yours is still running, they can keep going a long time if properly taken care of. how many Miles/kilometers has yours got on the clock?
@pelsification its prolly around 150000KM so almost 100000 miles... its showing its age and milage when its cold but once its warmed up its pretty good :) I had it dynoed a while back its it got 48 and a bit HP at the back wheel which is on par for others i've seen testesd.. good to know not many horses have died off :D
What are these bikes like? Im may be buying one in a few weeks as my first "big" bike. Going from a slow 125 to this. The one ive seen is a 2003 model, and will have to be restricted to 33bhp because of my licence.
From what ive seen it takes roughly 10 seconds to go from 0 - 85mph. Thats pretty good and should be plenty of power considering im currently on a 125 that takes 15 seconds to do 60mph and thats a struggle. 50mph is a more realistic speed.
@IP1NKYI I Really like the bike, and it is the fastest of the 500cc bikes. It has enough power both for touring and fun on smaller roads. I'd say it is a good upgrade from your 125. I am glad that i didn't have the money to go out and get me a 1000cc bike from the get go, as they are to fast for most people. its better to take a step at a time. I tried a Honda VFR 800 the other day and it was just to fast. I am happy with the 60hp that this has got.
@imprezanism It must be because of the lower power (48hp against 60hp) and the higher air resistance that yours have. according to Kawasaki yours is supposed to do 165km/h and mine should do 195km/h topspeed.

@pelsification It won't.

@pelsification
It actually will.
1st ... 10K = 60 kmh
2nd ... 10K = 90 kmh
The difference in the 2 gears, is that the 2nd is bij 1,5x longer.
Therefore, multiplying the power in second gear with 0,75. Makes 45 horsepower at 10.000, where the supposed powerpeak is, where 1st gear has 60.
Taking in account that 2nd gear starts at about 8,5K RPM, it would be 43HP.
Your bike won't lose, ever, almost 33% of it's power. It's made to do it, therefore, you're wasting power, by shifting to early.

Thanks for the reply. Im hoping this guy desn't sell it before I move. Bikes up north and I dont move up north till next week. *cross fingers*
I saw a CBR 600 but the insurance was a little over £2000, then I saw the GPZ500 and tried that, insurance came out at £700 fully comp or £400 TPFT.
Going super fast doesnt really bother me. I mean I put up probably the slowest 125. Superbyke RMR. It has 9 - 10bhp. LOL.
The only thing I dont like is the skinny rear tyre on the GPZ.

@pelsification
I ended up buying a '99 SV650S. Love it so far. I prefer the wider tyres the SV has over the narrower GPZ tyres.
