  • This has the purity of a john lennon song.

  • Beck=scientologist is this true? If so it's nobodys fault but his own! Great tunes though.

  • Best song by Beck outside of the entire Sea Change album.....his best!

  • sentimentally attached to this album

  • definitely one of my favorite beck albums. funky beck is cool, but mellow beck is golden

  • @jodysoldman lol "mellow beck is golden", mellow gold anyone? XD

    jokes aside, thats soo true...

  • perfect song for burning a nug and watch the rain fall.

  • "... when the devils your only friend.."

  • @thetrueStaub Both Mutations and Sea of Change was produced by Nigel Godrich.

  • I love this song

  • This is Beck's best album and most underrated. Nigel Godrich produced, what did you think was going to happen?

  • "cool" is a perception it cant be overrated, it varies between everyone.

  • cool people suck. Beck is for uncool people....

  • @xchickenmanx THANK YOU.....no shit.....

  • not really the biggest Beck fan but this song is pretty incredible

  • actually great lyrics..

  • this song breaks my heart every time i hear it. for painfully accurate reasons.

  • Unequivocally, this is his best song.

  • @candycoatedsandman

Oh, and the thumbnails to this video looks like 2 sets of lips kissing.

  • amazing. thanks for this.

  • I remember looking at the back cover of the CD case and meditating to this song while looking at the dots of the 'third' eye.....'97 was an awakening.

  • Beautiful song, I recall seeing Beck in L.A. back in the early 90's when he was a true unknown. Having heard what his music has progressed to since then, I'm convinced he just doesn't make music. He makes homages to the creative process itself. His style defies labeling and he doesn't adhere to anything people expect, so he'll never be a mainstream pop star. He dabbles, progresses, and makes every genre a sound his own. Any popular musician can be labeled "artist", but Beck is the real deal

  • this song makes me think of all the things that were my fault and nobody elses, beautiful song.

  • ...and in my opinion his best album. Mutations - an underrated masterpiece.

  • Beck's best song......

  • I kinda wish this was an instrumental

  • i feel like this song is about religion?

  • beck rocks my socks

  • love this tune , love mutations , love sitar

  • in love

  • The things you do to protect others for the things you do that put you and them in danger while hoping you get away with it, But in the end no one ever does....But we all do it...all the time...

  • Hello, my name is Beck. Who is this man, who stole my name AND my dignity? What is this music? Oh. Right. It's great.

Just kidding, not really. He fudging stole my name.

p.s. check out my profile i play a really smooth tambourine

  • Quite possibly the best song ever...

  • god i love this musical genius....

  • beck is so awesome he avoids needless descriptions.

  • this song is amazing...separates itelf from other songs on the album with ease

  • this song is so fuked when you are are on LSD

  • fuken mean song especially when you r fucked on LSD

  • This has the same spacey quality as Steal My Body Home does. There's something about that sound...

  • @FSquid I agree.Probably the spacey sitar

  • thanks for the tip, goodflyingbird. i will. peace.

  • the song is even better with marijuana

  • @huffandpoot try lsd with this song, it was life changing.

  • If you like this, check out his "sea change" album. "Paper Tiger" is my favorite Beck slow-tune, but this one is up there.

    Versatile artist, thats for sure

  • no you are!! blah

  • This is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. I never really gave Beck a chance but I will now!

  • love

  • one of the best tracks from the past decade ever!

  • this song remids me of cold times in vegas

  • Awesome!!!

  • No fancy stuff from me. I just love this track. It sums me up.

  • And this is why I love Beck.

  • Awesome stuff, thank goodness this guy is around--an oasis of talent in a desert of mediocrity

  • We do something good its because of god. We do something bad its because of satan. Can this really be the common misconception of our world? Whatever helps people sleep at night I suppose :/.

  • I think your point is the point of the lyrics

  • your a delusional person. there is no god.

  • Shut up, stupid. If you knew that you would be God. You're just bitter and trendy.

  • @killiney4444 You have clearly missed the point of what I said. Try reading again with your intelligence turned on.

  • really really well done

  • so true...

  • shit hot song by a shit hot muso. i reckon his sombre stuff's way better than his upbeat stuff.but that's just my opinion

  • lol what are you on man?

  • This song is really beautiful, I can imagine myself getting lost in India while hearing it

  • Funny thing, I didnt like this album when it was released but listening to this now its stunning.

  • sen bloody sational song.he's the biggest, baddest musical cameleon i ever did see

  • this song sounds like a doors song at the beginning, crystal ship or something... or maybe I'm on one lol

  • doors . the end

  • better..

  • And yes, Will is awesome.

  • Awesome goes a little too far, but he is definitely funny. I like him mainly in Anchorman and Stepbrothers.

  • Anchorman is awesome ;D I haven't seen Stepbrothers yet D: I must, yes. I like Semi-Pro :D

  • Magnificent

  • He will always be the man.

  • What about Tom Waits? Doesn't he deserve some respect too?

  • Such a beautiful song

  • awesome, awesome song. This album is in my top 5.

  • love this song. Mutations was a great album.

  • And it still is. :)

  • i like the over dubbing of his voice when he sings the chorus line at 4:06. it adds another dimension to an already beautiful song.

  • Just like Will Ferrel did for Lonesome Tears XD Nah, I'm joking.

  • Dude, I have NNOOO idea of what you're talking about. But Will Ferrel's a funny dude. I think we both can agree on that, yes?

  • Yes, yes. But Beck played Lonesome Tears at some charity thing, and Will danced around in some weird red leotardy-thingy.

  • I had no idea. Sounds like he kinda ruined a good song/performance. But that's Will...he'll do that.

  • ahhh, love this tune, im a major beck fan =D

  • so perfect. beautiful song.

  • beck rules!!!!!

  • Totally agree with what you guys have all said. Listen to a song like this and then check out some of his dance tracks (most anything off of The Information, "Youthless" from Modern Guilt), and you realize just how fucking wide his spectrum of influence (and creative prowess) is.

  • yea beck is fantastic. his lyrics are textured, and he is not afraid to fondle other forms of reality with his creativity...

  • modern day beethoven...

  • Yeah, it's amazing how he came out with Midnite Vultures, then went straight to Sea Change with his next album. The difference between them is mind-boggling, or maybe it's the pain he must have been going through that's more incredible.

  • Nobody can deny Beck is a true musical genius. He's not afraid to explore any musical frontier, and he integrates so many genres. This song has electronic, piano, sitar, and such evocative lyrics - especially in the second verse. Brilliant. Thanks for uploading, I haven't heard this gem in a while.

  • Hell Yeah

  • cool people listen to beck, who agrees?

  • This is a fucking tune, The lyrics relate to almost every person in the world... and i've been drnking all night... (uk)

  • I AGREE

  • beck is too cool 4 school

  • @jesse1196 I do!

  • @jesse1196 And Stoners !

  • @Obobbyss yeah :)

  • @jesse1196 me

  • @jesse1196 i agree

  • @jesse1196 I think I remember Fonzie saying he was a big Beck fan, so, yeah, I guess you're right, baby-baby. A-aaa-aaa-yyyy!

  • how chilled am i now??? kewl!!

  • THis song is a most identifiable song simply because most of us have a sense of regret for things we may have done in the past. And yet it's a very impressionistic song, capturing the feeling of losing and regreting and thats why I love this guy...no one writes a soundtrack for our day to day lives better.

  • Beck is different gravy. This man experiments and evolves and is a true genius. In these days of Pop Idols, Big Brother and other talentless mediocre pap, Beck shines above all the dross. This tune is Top Banana and make no mistake.

  • dude, this comment is right on the money. not only the meaning of it, but the semantics... the way you describe it, those words... its no wonder that those comments appear here on these monster song of beck... good comment dude, good one.

  • I do not recall.

  • Sincere thanks for your BRILLIANT comment. You covered all the bases,at a time in the music industry where the lowest common denominator(read fiscal imperatives..)is the order of the day. Evidenced by his sustained, outstanding output thus far, Beck has proven himself a genuine creative FORCE, AND treasure among the prevalent bleak landscape of rot, plagiarism, ego and decay. Long may his musical gift shine...Very few artists have truly earned the mantle of maverick and genius... as Beck HAS.

  • When I heard this song for the first time on December the 6th 1998 it was cold outside. My girlfriend bought the album the day before.

I immediately had the images for a video.

Beck on a beach on the west coast with the sun goin' down.

    Such a beautiful song.

  • Very beautiful and with edge of bitterness(?). He seems able to adapt to differing styles of music. A true original.

  • Shame there's no vid but awesome tune anyway. Beck is incredible, switching between so many different genres and carrying it off every time, from folk to hip hop via grunge & blues. If you don't have all of his albums, get them now. You will not be disappointed. The word genius is overused, but in Beck's case.........

  • Anybody who says that Beck doesn't deserve all of the hype he receives hasn't heard this song.

  • Dopest god damn track Beck has ever laid down.

    Personal opinion.

    That is all.

  • i happen to agree

  • on june, 27th I will see him in Berlin. Thanks for staying alive, Beck. Thanks for making music for the different.

  • The message in this song is a very important one for all the human race!

  • agreed. if we all just took responsibility for our own actions, our own mistakes, lies, ...etc.. we would all be so much more at peace. otherwise, we just prolong the fighting, push the blame and never learn a damn thing.

great song and i love the sitar. i just became a beck fan. why i waited so long? it's everyones fault but mine!

i have sea change and odelay; i'm buying mutations next time i step foot into a record shop.

  • Definitely besides nothing wrong with hippies! I'm being one myself lol agreed both of you

  • dont forget about mellow gold, possibly his best album

  • Odelay

  • W pyte kawałek, mój ulubiony Becka.

  • Great audio. Great Song. Thx for the post

  • Yes, elminino, this is a masterpiece. A highpoint from an artist with many highpoints. Thanks so much for posting!

  • This Is So Depressing And I Like Depressing,Like Radiohead,Except 15 Steps

  • IT..is actually not depressing..though I know what you mean..it's really the TRUE essence of what we ARE..think about it.

  • i fell more connected to emmotions, thats why i like it

  • very true

  • Exceptional.

    Better on the Harmonium..

  • Beautiful... absolutely beautiful...

  • yes. it's a swell song.

  • great song, its quite similar to blackhole
