Great riffs on this album, but dear god. The vocals are so boring...... Really sounds like Dane wasn't even trying to come up with interesting vocal lines. Sad that it had to end like this. I would gladly accept Jeff Loomis creating his own band with nevermore oriented songs and a singer who has not turned into a total unproffesional douche.
@MrGitarrmongo Honestly i actually want to hear Jeff in a new band as many people will agree that warrels vocals quite weird. Its quite cool but takes a while to get used to. Im sure that if Jeff joins a new band everything will be exactly like nevermore minus vocals
@KrankItVZ If you never got a chance to listen to Loomis' solo album (Zero Order Phase), it's pretty amazing. All instrumental work and one hell of a listen. Hopefully he and Van Williams do some tag-teaming in another endeavor. They honestly carried Nevermore and they'll find something awesome to do.
@Kilmarro Yes I've already heard his album since it came out. And will try to get his 2nd one thats coming out soon. What I'm saying is that Loomis is practically the one who defines the sound of nevermore. But I want to hear that with a different vocalist
21Fixxer..hmm..I agree about Portnoy...athough,.at one point I wouldnt have thought that 'Ring of Fire 'could exist without George Bellas...but MacAlpine made a great addition...you could even replace Vitalij in 'Ring'if you had to back then ..with Mistheria or Jens perhaps...it is ultimately Jeffs songwriting not playing that cant be replaced.
I was supposed to see them with Symphony Sex....they broke up the week before the show....my one and only chance to see them and spray tons of Right Guard is gone forevermore.
Who can replce Jeff and Van Williams.....First Jeff....guys like George Bellas can match him for speed and accuracy but not rythym...James Murphy or Mike Chlaisiack (I spelled it wrong) maybe...now Van..hmmm Gene Hoglan.....Portnoy
@nneevveerrmmoorree dude not portnoy he is great but he doesnt fit with nevermore...also nevermore without loomis is like syl without devin or pantera without dime or megadeth withouth mustaine etc etc
That bend at the end of Jeff's solo is the greatest bend I have ever heard in my life. No bends from any other guitarists match the emotion in that one note for me. The only one that comes close is one of the bends in Sacristy, which is also Jeff.

I really expected so much more out of this album. When I heard it was called "The Obsidian Conspiracy", I expected some sick prog-type work reminiscent of the last album. @xfalconkillerx you think a vocalist in a metal band isnt important? if you your an idiot! if their isnt a good voice/lyrics the song doesnt fit together and great metal song has great vocalist/lyrics

When I hear someone say something about how all metal bands do nothing but scream, I almost always cite Nevermore because of Warrel's huge vocal range and opera training.
For a science project i was supposed to find a song to do with obsidian so i searched obsidian and i found this and im so glad i did, you guys are awesome.
@1vertigodown Honestly, because of his unique voice, his vocal style is an acquired taste. When I first started listening to them in 2000 (my friend showed me the solo to The River Dragon Has Come so I immediately went out and bought Dead Heart In A Dead World), his voice took some getting used to. But if you truly give the band a chance, his voice really grows on you and you end up loving it like I do. Especially when you see them live. He has just as much intensity as any vocalist that growls.
@metalfreekz13 i agree dude.. Don't know if you have heard of "static Impulse".. It James Labrie's side project out of Dream theater.. THe album has growls of death metal nature which i totally do not like, t but i don't mind it on that album...

@1vertigodown I agree so hard. The instrumentals are so sick and then the voice just isn't up to par in my opinion.

@1vertigodown He's very divisive. Personally, I love his vocals, but I can absoloutely see why people would hate them.
