Great to hear him speak. So many people have scrambled their marbles from his generation, good to see he had the fortitude and prescence of mind to CONTINUE exploring. Cool guy.
i wish i was born a lot longer ago, im 16, and yes ive got everything i ever wanted but i hate it. not in an ungrateful way but i want to be a part of these beliefs and such. today its all sky TV and subcultures like emo and all that shite. i wish i was as old as Rimbaud or my dad:) haha :) great points he's making too!
Rubysoholove, its nice to see a young person who doesnt want to be a part of the current culture. But to widh your life away is redundant, become the person you wish to be, become an example to others of your age and save the world from us old fuckkas.
I love it when he asks if this is boring, because he's heard his own voice his whole life!
It seems almost like the essence of punk that they CREATED their own chords because they didn't know any... To me, that PROCESS of creating is what art is about...
First, you have the idea and THEN you find the image or sound or whatever to express that idea.... Awesome.
Crass were part of a long lineage of artists who pushed against the established boundaries of what was considered possible (as well as permissible), and helped create some of the cultural breathing room we have today.
As a grown up, their work is more relevant to me now than it was when I first heard them twenty six years ago.
a lot of my friends hate this band because they just think its boring and the musicianship sucks, but thats pretty much missing the whole point of the band, im the only one who likes them and im proud of it
Exactly! When I was a kid I was like many fans who took everything almost as gospel. Now I find I disagree with many of the lyrics but the core message is more relevant than ever. Think for yourself and don't be a pawn. Try and question everything.
@GriefTourist yeh punk did its job, but the "fight" has moved on. diferent times diferent word, more apathy, kids more contained within the "system... time for the oldies to rebel now. need a new edge for the times we are in now. solar and wind for our own housing schemes, supporting ourselves without their fukin jobs and shite, police ourselves, and fuk the gangsters both legal and illegal
I've 'grown up' and they're more important than ever. As time goes on and ones knowledge and experience expands, one certainly discovers more substance in Crass' recordings where once one only skated along the surface.
Crass is so misunderstood in terms of musicianship, and endless other reasons, but to me it was quite apparent from the first time that I heard them that they were avant garde on purpose, they were doing their own thing, and that mentality as artists naturally created an esoteric following for them.

What a good bloke, I saw crass a few times at squats in London but life was a blur then.... I like the way he has turned out still with his values.

You may have grown up, we all have, but the lyrics still hold true if not MORE today.
