Looking through some of these comments, I wonder in what way this is not authentic carnatic music. It just sounds like perfect tODi to me. Maybe my ears are untrained and I'm an idiot, or maybe you guys are just being a bunch of closed-minded retards and need some good advice from the Telugu movie Shankarabharanam.
@wavesrex first of all, this is carnatic music, and sitar is generally used in hindustani (though not exclusively). second, music can be played on any instrument. third, shut the fuck up.
@Trapodactylus Yes I totally agree with you. I don't mind any experiment as long as the result is authentic. U. Srinivas used an electric mandolin, an instrument obscure to many, and played very traditional music yielding authentic results. Prasanna plays in a very ordinary manner.
@TejasM14 why would you all shit on someone for making good music, regardless of whether its 'traditional'. If you are always adhering to what has been, then you will never be a trendsetter, you will only be a copy of what there already is or has been. that said, the majority of what I listen to is very traditional Indian Classical Music, but there is room for good music a little bit outside of the box.
@TejasM14 I beg to differ. Your opinions are different as compared to mine. I am not a proponent of ONLY classical music. I like and listen to every type of music. But it has to carried out in an integral way with quality and authenticity. In plain terms, this music feels cheap to me. I would rather listen to some quality jazz improv as compared to this.Don't call classical music as copying. Just because you learn the same language you don't end up write the same essay right?
@TejasM14 yes i disagree with you, and, infact, don't see the point of your comment. if you like, i can state as you did, that your opinion is different compared to mind. i am a classically trained pianist, guitarist, singer, i play solo gigs as a Jazz pianist and with Jazz quartets...check out my channel.
anyways, prasanna is wonderful, i have his album, and i love his style...he plays like incests flys or like the inquisitive nature of a child. if it 'feels cheap' that is your small opinion
Nice! Now if he could back this chordal vocubulary, international tonal textures and original compositions (perhaps he has already), we have a world class talent.
Sounds like EBEBEB to me. I use the same tuning, but wanted to confirm, hence the question. For some reason my guitar sounds quite different (more conventional) than this one.

I like the echo, an interesting accompaniment who will never fail!
This is very well done given how diffcicult it is to play gamakas on the guitar.

I love Prasannas playing but I think he should do more with his guitar tone. On the electric guitar, he could use so many effects ...
panchamkauns 1 year ago
He's doing something poorly on an electric guitar that has been done wonderfully on traditional instruments for ages.
@fcubic: lol!

He already is a world class talent. This clip is from his instructional DVD on how to play Carnatic music on the guitar.
