Thanks for your comment yes this Loco is currently running and is based in Whitehead in Antrim at the moment but makes the odd trip South, enjoyed reading your diary.
Sean Connery nearly killed himself in the movie u can c him having a close call in the Movie he burnt his hair also think his hair fell out after this, At Moate station he got off the roof and gave out to the Drivers, asking were they not looking at their speedomiter, the Driver replied we dont have one, we just look at the poles! Blowfeld tried killing him in a dozen films and 184 and couple of CIE drivers and RPSI crew firing came the closest to doing it in one.
yes true enough not up to 85 or 171 no 4's speed capabilities, once I saw no 184 hitting 50 on the Athlone to MGar run with a 5 carriage full load, during the making of The First Great Train Robbery, Sean Connery was walking on the roofs of the carriages doing his own stunt work, the film company and Sean asked for the train to run at 30 mph, the drivers meanwhile forgot about this, and the managed to run at 65 mph with empty carriages and just Sean Connery on the roof.
@atrudubliner Why not? here in NZ we had two 1877 tank locos running in excess of 40-50 mph 2 years ago for our centenary of the North Island's main trunk, and their drivers are only 3 foot diameter
yeah i agree with you bout 186 going down to Dublin without failing. She failed on the Europe day due to poor steam raising aka the the new batch of coal was to blame. it was a shame that she didn't do the May Tour this year.
Yes it would be great to see her in Dublin, hopefully she makes it down, Im afraid I waited for her at a great vantage point near fairview, to get a shot of her during the last two day tour, in May last, and she didnt make it, think it was something to do with the bad coal & not being able to raise enough steam, i must have waited an hour or more in the rain, then i got into contact with Connolly and got word that she had broken down.
yes its one of the oldest mainline loco's running built in 1879 and that clip show's it running on Ireland first railway built in 1834 ur Hornby-Dublo clips r great
Just heard that 186 is based in Dublin at the moment

find the 65mph a little bit too imaginitive!

its only a little tiny goods engine never was a passenger and its 128 years old its not fit for even a speed of 45...!
