  • Just heard that 186 is based in Dublin at the moment

  • Excellent video - is this locomotive still operational?

  • Thanks for your comment yes this Loco is currently running and is based in Whitehead in Antrim at the moment but makes the odd trip South, enjoyed reading your diary.

  • Thank you for the vid.

John Laird's series of DVDs on Irish railways - Eire and N.I. - are just so good, and worth renting fromT esco or Lovefilm (filmfour), Les.

  • Thanks will have to check out those John Laird DVD's

  • i saw dat train before on conolly station

  • Yes she has made quite a few visits to Connolly

  • would be nice to see Merlin (85) running again. she was nice.

  • be great to c 85 running again what a loco

  • yikes u can nearly imagine yourself doing!! then on the 25th august for the steam enterprise are u going on to belfast or just staying in Dublin?

  • Lol that is actually quite funny bout Sean Connery. btw did u get my friend request?

  • Sean Connery nearly killed himself in the movie u can c him having a close call in the Movie he burnt his hair also think his hair fell out after this, At Moate station he got off the roof and gave out to the Drivers, asking were they not looking at their speedomiter, the Driver replied we dont have one, we just look at the poles! Blowfeld tried killing him in a dozen films and 184 and couple of CIE drivers and RPSI crew firing came the closest to doing it in one.

  • lol aye but 186 is quite bad for speed though. she can only do 45 mph.

  • yes true enough not up to 85 or 171 no 4's speed capabilities, once I saw no 184 hitting 50 on the Athlone to MGar run with a 5 carriage full load, during the making of The First Great Train Robbery, Sean Connery was walking on the roofs of the carriages doing his own stunt work, the film company and Sean asked for the train to run at 30 mph, the drivers meanwhile forgot about this, and the managed to run at 65 mph with empty carriages and just Sean Connery on the roof.

  • find the 65mph a little bit too imaginitive!

  • its only a little tiny goods engine never was a passenger and its 128 years old its not fit for even a speed of 45...!

  • @atrudubliner Why not? here in NZ we had two 1877 tank locos running in excess of 40-50 mph 2 years ago for our centenary of the North Island's main trunk, and their drivers are only 3 foot diameter

  • ye ur rite and the lads of the footplate always give them a blow of the lovly chime whistle!

  • yeah i agree with you bout 186 going down to Dublin without failing. She failed on the Europe day due to poor steam raising aka the the new batch of coal was to blame. it was a shame that she didn't do the May Tour this year.

  • Paul if u go to the RPSI website for updates it shows that the steam enterprise is on. 186 is coming back to Dublin.

  • Yes it would be great to see her in Dublin, hopefully she makes it down, Im afraid I waited for her at a great vantage point near fairview, to get a shot of her during the last two day tour, in May last, and she didnt make it, think it was something to do with the bad coal & not being able to raise enough steam, i must have waited an hour or more in the rain, then i got into contact with Connolly and got word that she had broken down.

  • Great vid. Have yet to go for a spin on her. My last trip was on Merlin No 85 to Cork.

  • Robert thanks for the comment, 186 could be back in Dublin on the 25th August, well worth a trip

  • i saw this train on heuston station :D its nice :D

  • thanks for the comment yes 186 looks at home in heuston

  • A GREAT VIDEO CLIP , have you anymore clips like this.

  • thanks for the comments will post more

  • yes its one of the oldest mainline loco's running built in 1879 and that clip show's it running on Ireland first railway built in 1834 ur Hornby-Dublo clips r great
