Your argument fell apart when you listed Arctic Monkeys and Oasis as two of the best bands in the world. They're both so derivative of far older bands all their profits should be paid out as royalties to their predecessors.

Covering a song doesn't make an artist unoriginal. A single song isn't enough to make a band original or unoriginal, even if it's a cover.

Even a cover can be original when it's done in a unique enough style.

Oh c'mon, my bark has no bite. Sorry, though, but Bloc Party are not that great, although they were one of the best new bands when they came out in the music black-hole that was four years ago. They are a poor 2000s version of what The Smiths were doing, over-blown emotionalism and angst: Good for teens. For my money, TV On The Radio, Deerhunter/Atlas Sound and Fleet Foxes are much more interesting. Hey, you might like Efterklang, they also are dramatic but mostly due to the music. Try "Parades"
