I liked Hunter S. Thompson's book Hells Angels the best - it's clear, objective writing and Thompson hadn't crossed over in to drug induced rants. And Hunter S Thompson was doing the honorable thing here objecting to some man beating a woman and beating a dog - good for him. He was wrong to go to the police, he should have just licked his wounds and publicized the fact that certain HAs behave like punks, thugs.
The Hell's Angels members were jealous of Hunter because all the women groupies wanted to bang him. Hunter in the 60's was good looking and cultured. Even Hunter's best friend Sonny Barger was jealous of him. Sonny often said that Hunter could get more pu-sy than Frank Sinatra. And that is a fact!!

I think it was the only way to end the book. The fact that mid-20th century America was more patriarchal meant that men were taught to be the protectors of women and were therefore more chivalrous. The fact that men always dominated the household would surely have meant less marital disputes, and their dominance over women would have meant less women turned to 'bad boys' in order to find strong men. If anything, wife beating probably rose since then.

I missed the comma after box. It should have read some come back in a box, some ride. Bikers dont regularly beat anybody. I am a biker and a mechanic by trade. I have some cars and bikes that will never be picked up because they never made it back. To each their own. But I really dont know one biker who beats anybody, except their bike. The fact that mid-20th century America was more patriarchal meant that men were taught to be the protectors of women and were therefore more chivalrous. The fact that men always dominated the household would surely have meant less marital disputes, and their dominance over women would have meant less women turned to 'bad boys' in order to find strong men. If anything, wife beating probably rose since then.

@socratescafe back from the river how was starbucks dude?? Look i have a local HA chapter in the town i grew up in. In Canada the HA are the top of the foodchain in the drug underworld. I have spoken to many members and there like any big group of guys. Some are nice, some are fat, some bald, some are not so nice it depends really. Trust me man the senior members who are in charge of multi million dollar drug networks are not stupid.

This man lived a life most wouldn't understand. no rule except his own.and the difference between his story and the hells angels was small.at that time they got to thinking they should have gotten payed and they did threaten him.And the guy with the hole in his throat is Sonny Barger President of the Oakland chapter and founding member of the Hells Angels.he latter wrote his own book's, and acted as a hells angel in movies.and latter in that interview he calls Hunter a Great writer.
