  • Aw, no one cares about pedestrian safety anymore. I mean, look at "The Dark Knight"!

Also, how comes Robin solves so many more riddles than Batman? Come on, set the younger generation a good example! :)

  • I love how Joker doesn't even appear until the fifth episode, I think? Hah, they clearly didn't think much of him! A show after my own heart - put the more interesting villains first. Too bad Penguin wasn't the first to appear, but Riddler's a good starting point too.

  • I want that phone

  • 7:05 "Too-too-toooooooo!" Good old Robin, never afraid to show off his falsetto.

  • Very strange seeing the '60s Batman after being exposed to the later films and Batman the Animated series first, but I love this one as well. Burt Ward was better than Chris O'Donnell anyway.

  • This shit is amazing, oh my god. I haven't laughed this hard in a while.

  • the riddler has the best outfits

  • riddler fucking cool bitches assholes

  • i mean gay boy

  • the ridelers a gat boy lol

  • Was Molly Riddler's girlfriend, or that guy in the pinstripe suit.

  • Love that whistle he gave off. LOL. It was like he was whistling for a taxi.

  • Question: Am I the only one who was rooting for The Riddler?

  • @TheAverageGrunt I know i was.The idea of Batman removng his cowl in open court.

  • @TheAverageGrunt No, i wanted Riddler to get Batman in court too. To see Batman in the dock and ordered by a judge to unmask

  • lol this riddler is freaken hilarious though i feel that at 4:29 to 4:34 he's drunk or something

  • Riddler laughs too much

  • When did the riddler become the Joker? Lol he is awesome!

  • holy ashtray!...best line ever!

  • 2:30 batman pulled out a coat hook

  • it's nice to be able to watch these who agrees

  • Robin: toot toot toot!

    Me: *dies from laughing*

  • "Great Scott!" ... "This is heavy, Bruce!"

  • Holy ashtray!!!

  • why was the bat logo pink

  • Oh, the camp.

  • Wait. How the hell do you sue Batman?

  • @Ndawg987654321 Good question. He's the goddam BATMAN! He can ignore the lawsuit and live hunted by the cops.

...Sorta like he is in the modern Batman. Huh. Now we know what happened: he got sued.

  • I love the giant jar labeled caviar.

  • Holy ashtray!

  • He should have kept a video of this...the only time he out - riddled batsy

  • frank gorshin played the best riddler ever who agrees

  • @mordecairocks2 I agree 100%

  • @mordecairocks2 By far. And the best Batmobile was the one in the TV series.

  • @mordecairocks2

Damn right and what did you think of Jim Carrey, Robert Englund and John Glover?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Jim Carrey was interesting, if a little too manic with the character. John Glover's is quite well done as well. I don't think I've seen Robert Englund's Riddler before though...

  • @Johnlindsey289 i think they did a alright job to epecially jim carrey

  • @mordecairocks2 no contest,,my favourite character of the batman series,,frank gorshin does a great impression of kirk douglas too,,

  • @robharding1957 thx for the comment he does!

  • @mordecairocks2 just because now there is no some "Heath Ledger" who will outperform him. If Jack Nicholson wouldn't play the Joker, everybody considered that Cezar romero's joker is the "EVAR Beeest"

P.S. now instead of "who agrees" people say "thumbs up"

  • I love the idea of the Riddle suing Batman .and Batman has to remove his cowl in open court.

  • say did you known that that the riddler didn't start wearing his mask until several episodes later in fact i even think that if wasn't until one of the other seasons.

  • this is the only time in the series what batman mentions part of his origins with his parents deaths.

  • Why did they suite up to read the secret writing? Its almost like they knew they would need to jump in the bat-mobile.

  • I love the Riddler's laugh, this guy stole the series every time he appeared. He was better than all the other villains. I remember when they replaced him with the guy who played Gomez on the Addams Family- that was a FAILURE.

  • @gonzomoya420 Yeah Frank was the bomb as The Riddler! Frank Gorshin as the Riddler was my favorite part of the series. Too bad he didn't appear more than he did. And btw the guy who played Gomez was John Astin and he played The Riddler once because Frank was busy. John Astin is cool and I liked him but he had nothing on Frank

  • is it just me or would the Riddler completely own Batman if it weren't for Robin figuring out all the riddles?

  • Between 5:46 and 5:58 a lot of gay references "Up the shoot" " Master Dick" "Supposed fishing trips" lol

  • @aaron3009 only if you're queer to begin with....

  • 3:59 WTF??! :P

  • "watch it chump... pedestrian safety"

    gahahhahahaha

  • even in the 1960s batman and robin is still cool!

  • OUT-RIDDLED!

  • Yeah, I want to hang wit da Mole Hill Mob!

  • Love Riddler's laugh!

  • The riddler is my absolute favorite villain, especially in this episode! :3

  • Too Tooo Tooo!!!!

  • Thanks FanOfBats, we can watch all the episodes of this awesome series many many thanks

  • Riddler= Best Batman villain ever

  • "Two to two...TOO TOOO TOOO!!"

    XDDD

  • Wait, so he can run for mayor against the Penguin without revealing his true identity, but not go to court?

  • The Riddler: "Why couldn't you beat the living shit out of me and get me fucked in jail, after putting me in handcuffs? lol"

  • LOL....awesome how Robin "stands clear" @ 1:04

  • Gene Wilder would have made a great Riddler if he was old enough in the 60s.

  • 45th anniversary is today.

  • I love that crazy laugh.

  • I love Frank Gorshwin playing riddler! So awesome!

  • 4:23 Epic freak out

  • How is it that everytime Batman goes off after the bad guys, robin always gets snatched?.

  • That laugh was pure evil !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 4:55- Jack Barry

  • @MrLogoman007 How eerily ironic it would've been had he been in a "Joker" episode!

  • @MrLogoman007 Yes it is

The Late Jack Barry The Original Host of Tic Tac Dough and The Joker's Wild, in fact, he made The Joker's Wild very popular and when he and Dan Enright brought back Tic Tac Dough, Wink Martindale made it popular

Barry & Enright also gave us BULLSEYE for it's Set as well as Jim Lange of The Dating Game Fame

God Bless Jack Barry, may he R.I.P.

Jack Barry is The Joker's Wild, Jim Peck did a great job and Bill Cullen, The Dean ended on a High Note

  • R.I.P Frank Gorswin.

  • So they're apparently just wearing full costume in the Batcave just for the spirit of the thing? It's not like their secret identities are in danger there!

  • I love how Batman and Robin are all concerned with safety and protecting public property and then they just smash through the fucking window. This show rocks.

  • Gotta say...Frank Gorshin is the absolute man. Jim Carrey is sort of lightweight compared to that!

  • thank heavens for the bat hook

  • I wonder. Why are there bars on the window? The window is at least 3 stories high, so is there really a need for the bars?

  • @mindreaper21 Ironically they were to keep Batman out.

  • Why are the bad guy hideouts always slanted?

  • @BlueKenshin The director thought that the villains themselves were crooked so they shot the scenes at a crooked angle.

  • @BlueKenshin Because, and this is the truth, the villains were crooked.

  • i <3 the riddler!!!

  • god, love frank, no one can touch him, the look on his face is great, that laugh is from a old movie, cant remember right now , but its from the one where the old lady in the wheelchair and is pushed down the stairs

  • Hyehyehohoho! xDD

    Love the Riddler xD

  • HOW IN THE HELL DO BATMAN AND ROBIN SOLVE THESE RIDDLES SO QUICKLY???

  • @svb5942 Because he's batman!

  • @svb5942

Because Batman and Robin are supposedly pretty smart in the comic series.

  • It's hilarious to think Batman is now Mayor West on Family Guy

  • "OUT-RIDDLED!"

  • the dark night should have white eye brows on his face like the old batman!!

  • Gorshin was/is the best Riddler. John Glover was a great Riddler in the animated series. But if Riddler is in the next Nolan movie, he should not be played like Gorshin, obvisouly. He should be darker & not wear green tights.

  • @wwebatmanmaniac I think he should be a cross between the two. Both versions had dark elements to them. Gorshin's Riddler collected torture devices, so maybe a reference to that will be made in the movie, I hope so :)

  • @wwebatmanmaniac

The sad thing is that whoever they get to play The Riddler I seriously doubt that any third Batman movie after The Dark Knight is going to do anywhere near as good...unless they get someone who can really pull off a Dark, egotistical Riddler.

Anyone who tries to copy Frank Gorshin too much (or in Jim Carrey's case, overdo him) is going to ruin the film. The Riddler has to be able to play Batman, use his strengths against him and challenge him the way The Joker did.

  • i love frank gorshin too he was better than his replacement for a couple episodes john astin aka gomez addams ....

  • frank gorshin was the best!

  • Oh, Robin, how I lurv you're "stand clear" stance. 01:06

  • Riddlme this.....

  • The Riddler had a gun when they can in the window, and he still ran.

Are Batman and Robin wearing bulletproof spandex???

  • Holy shit, you actually see dust coming out of the book when Bruce closes it at 5:22! His fathers law books were old!

  • Gorshin received an Emmy nomination for this episode, the only Batman villain to do so.

Also of note is the fact that The Riddler was one of the later villains added and wasn't very popular... UNTIL Gorshin's portrayal.

I think what makes Gorshin's performance work is the intensity and the quicksilver ability to shift moods, from giddy to pompous to serious and back again. That unpredictability and 'loose cannon' edge is the sort of thing they should capitalize on if Nolan uses The Riddler.

  • I thought the answer to the riddle would have something to do with a go-fast boat, also known as a "cigarette boat."

  • It's the best when Riddler says "See you...in....COURT!!!"

  • There's a villain, he brought in the most evil thing in the world, a lawsuit.

  • Watched this as a kid and still love the riffler...OOPS!!! Riddler!! LOLOLOLOL

  • lol I love it when Robin makes the train noise at 7:07

  • Comment removed

  • Is that the one with "a cigarette lighter?"

the boat was one cigarette lighter since it was thrown overboard and weighed one cigarette less, and a cigarette lighter is what you use to light your cigarette.

  • Lol this series is a classic, thx for the upload ;)

  • The boat weighs one cigarette less, ergo it's lighter by one cigarette or is one cigarette lighter. It's a play on words, "lighter" meaning both "to weigh less" and "an object which ignites".

  • @cciemail They threw a cigarette overboard and the boat was a cigarette lighter (lighter is a pun: fire making thing and less wieght). They threw a cigarette overboard and made the boat lose the weight of a cigarette: a cigarette lighter!

  • @ganondorf326 But that doesn't explain how the men on the boat managed to smoke the 3 cigarettes they have! Aren't riddles supposed to follow some kind of logic? : /

  • @Agent1W Not really. especially in the 60s

  • @ganondorf326 Clever use of words, I'll give him that. The question of the riddle was what I got hung up on.

  • He was so good, creepy/hysterical and convincing in this role that I sometimes wondered if Gorshin himself was mentally ill.

  • mac culkin , he does look a bit like the guy

  • Totally psychotic laugh

  • In Batman: The Animated Series and The Batman (2004-2008) The Riddler is more serious and both cartoon.Frank Gorshin made him to be like almost Joker. But it's funny when he laughs his funny sounding high-voice laugh :D

  • @Mangatytt00 jim carrey is the one that made the riddler look like a joke, and i'm not hating on jim carrey, for the contrary i love his movies, but the riddler wasn't the character for him if you want to make a serious movie

  • Well well, if only he didn't laugh constantly, he'd be a pretty good Riddler...

  • LOL at 7:07

  • Frank acted a little bit more like the Joker to be honest, but the way he portrayed Riddler was amazing anyways. I love his acting, it's so expressive.

  • @SurrealistNerd truth be told, he originally tried out for the joker

  • @SurrealistNerd actually joker and riddler are similar in mannerisms

  • Frank Gorshin was HILARIOUS!!

  • i guess this is why the Riddler is also called the most entertaining Batman villain ever.

  • @EvilAshPursuivant This episode actually changed the importance of the Riddler in the comic book - the character's popularity skyrocketed because of the show.

  • did that hook just come out of a can?

  • No, the hook has a suction cup on the end so it can stick to things.

  • HOLY CRAP!!! i read the comic this is based off of!!!! this is AWESOME!!!!

  • OMG that laugh....I swear The Riddler must be on fucking Meth!

Frank Gorshin rules as The Riddler!

  • Are these 2 episodes, Hi Diddle Riddle, and Smack in the Middle uncut, or are they the hacked up episodes?

  • Uncut. :) The episode opened with a PG inside inside a maple leaf, which means it was encoded from our TV Land. :)

  • Batman's got a good throwing arm

  • You know first thing I thought of when I heard batman was getting a lawsuit....

    a batman/phoenix wright crossover.

    I'd totally buy that game.

  • lol

  • Oow that whistle was loud... how did he manage to do that? By the way, does anyone know the answer to this riddle from a later episode? "What has branches and leaves, but no bark?"

  • THE ANSWER IS A LIBRARY

  • A library.

  • "What has branches and leaves, but no bark?">>> Library

  • It seems Jack Barry of the Jokers Wild played the news anchor man.

  • I love The Riddler!! <33333

  • i WROTE A MUSICAL BASED ON THE 1966 BATMAN TV SHOW.

  • Damn, Robin is an F'ing genious!

  • Is it just me, or does the riddler sound like he has a permanent orgasm?

It's amazing! The camp hilarity of it all is AMAZING! I love it!

  • wow, Riddler's more like the Joker than the Joker

  • I think they would have got Michael Keaton for The riddler instead of Goose stepping moron Jim Carrey.

  • Why Michael Keaton? He doesn't have the same kinda attitude as Jim Carrey or Frank Gorshin. Michael Keaton is more of a stable actor.

Jim Carry made a great Riddler, well that's me, besides, it's just Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey.

  • No one on the planet could touch Frank Gorshin as the Riddler he's so goofy.......:), But I agreed with choosing Jim Carey, he's probably the second best choice.

  • Michael Keaton was batman!

Oh! Were you thinking beetlejuice like?

He might make a good riddler, with a darker tone!

  • Jim Carey has no business playing the riddler. he's gayer than a bag of dicks.

  • Which is EXACTLY why he does a good job of it!

  • agree carey couldn't shine gorshins shoes

  • Frank Gorshin is gone, but his brilliance will be with us forever... What a great performer !

  • ah i hate that riddle they had in this

  • Jill St. John is so fitt in this!! Saw a recent pic of her; still looks great!

  • Frank Gorshin was the perfect Riddler -- I wish that they could've gotten him for "Batman Forever" instead of Jim Carrey.

  • @tsartodd I agree my friend and thanks for the observation - MG

  • @tsartodd Jim saved it from being a huge fuck up

  • @donneric No, he didn't. But, it wasn't Carrey's fault that the movie sucked. The script was silly. Joel Schumaker went back to the campy BS that Tim Burton got rid of, and frankly, Val Kilmer was not a good Batman, and the production design was an atrocious eye sore.

  • @tyranusfan Are you kidding? Batman Forever is one of my favorite movies ever.

  • @tsartodd Wouldn't be be too old for the part?

  • @steveclips He would be too old.

  • @tsartodd Ironically, Frank Gorshin, on this campy 60s show, was a more far more menacing Riddler than Jim Carrey.

  • @tsartodd nooooooooooooooo this one sucks jims better

  • just to add a lil modernness to the situation, at 0:33 any fan of a great german techno group will recognise the riddle ryhme.....

  • Whats the name of the group please tell me =)

  • KRAFTWERK !

  • 4:06

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhA

  • Sorry......Frank Gorshin......not Gorsham

  • From 7:00 to 7:30.........the Boy wonder is a genius. Batman was nothing w/o him.

    Frank Gorsham was the best.

  • Alternative answer to riddle: There was a bomb in the boat, and it blew up, thereby making the men smoke.

  • 4:03

  • wouldnt riddler get arrested for breaking that vase?

  • It was Batman's fault for making him laugh so hard!

  • Batman and Robin certainly didn't neglect their duty as role models did they?
