David Coverdale is the King! Admitedly I preferred his Deep Purple stuff and early whitesnake. Trouble, Come and get it, Ready and Willing, Slide it in, Come taste the Band, Stormbringer etc Kinda got a bit too americanised rock for me I liked the more blues soully stuff. Type in "The Letter government coverdale" for his pre DP band. Brilliant even then!!
