I read in a Ripleys believe it or not book once that a women accidently put her kitten in her washing machines but luckily it survived. it looked like a Miele front loading washer wich spins really fast and the water temperature was really hot so that article deserved to be in Ripley's. But that probably was a once in a lifetime miracle so you're right this cat probably would not survive even the first wash.
