Of course Shahnama is as much ours as is Iranians. The great Ferdawsi spent considerable amount of his time in towns located in modern Afghanistan doing research on Iranian history and no wonder these towns more often mentioned in his great book than towns in contemporary Iran. And let's not forget Shahnama work was started by Daqiqi Balkhi in Balkh who wrote above a thousand initial FARD of Shahnama but could not complete due to his demise.

Furthermore the storyline of Shahnama is based on prior research work on Iranian history by Abu Shukur e Balkhi as every Iranian scholer agree on this historic fact. So we all whether Afghanistani or Iranian do love Shahnama and find outselves in it.
