I got lost for about 20 years...this song is so powerfully helping me find me again. I don't know why I equate this so strongly with warmth, happiness, good things, good times... just the past, I guess. Thanks, Lloyd Cole for this AND for Perfect Skin. Thank you.
When I was living in the UK, I grew up with such amazing music like Lloyd Cole, when I came back to Canada and the U.S. in 1988 I found very little in music that emulates Lloyd Cole, (I would say that the Velvet Underground, and Neil Young come close) I played my LP's and cassette tapes to death and then earned for more, I have my "more".........finally. Thank you :)
I've had a compilation album of Lloyd Cole's for about 2 years now, and never listened to it because I assumed it was just some noncey old shite. Then I hear Shaun Keaveny play a song on 6Music and I go 'Ooh, what's that?'. Lo and behold it is this amazing track, that, had I not been a fucking idiot, I could have been listening to for ages. Needless to say, I've had the album on repeat all day.
Thank you for this as I've been looking for the definitive version for a while. Best opening song lyrics ever...♬ "Looking like a Born Again, living like a heretic..." ♬

One of the best endings to a song ever...I love how his voice creaks on that last note, then the strings. Sigh.
