  • I know it's all about "playing the way you feel the music" but I did find this a little slow. I love this piece but I found myself getting bored with his performance. He does have great talent tho! :)

  • music is about expression. I feel piece this should be played at the tempo that he is, you may think otherwise.

  • Nocturnal illusion :)

  • I think this piece is played best by Janusz Olejniczak on the soundtrack of "The Pianist"

  • Hmm good but needs more sustain in the beginning so it flows nicer.

  • This is wonderful! I especially love the tempo you play it at; I find too many other people rush this song and they don't truly bring out the beauty of this piece.

  • he is talented. Don´t be mean. I can hardly play the door bell XD. He will be a skill full musicician if he keep practicing and also lose weight XD when he gets taller XD. he plays very good =)

  • Can be a little bit faster. Overall very good!

  • he is fat :(

  • @guycrosswell

    Hahaha

  • excellent, but maybe you could speed up the tempo...

  • DUDE GUYS DONT MAKE FUN OF HIM CUZ HE'S CHUBBY, HIS PAINO SKILLS WILL OUT PLAY ALL OF US, UNLESS YOUR A CONCERT PIANIST THATS ON YOUTUBE!

  • @BigTeo55 calm down, I believe I do play better than this person. That's because I have experience, and many others have experience too.

  • thats a chubby kid

  • gg kids

  • This is excellent! How old is he here, about 12? He expresses good emotion in his exceptional control of dynamics and pace. Bravo.

  • wow this little guy is amazing. good job!

  • This is, I think, my favourite interpretation of this piece. That kid is amazing.

  • In my country morons did the commercial product in the form of vodka named Chopin.....

  • There are some notable names that shouldn't be overlooked when talking about modern composers. Such as Benjamin Britten, or Peter Vasks. Even Faure was composing into the early 20th century, so its not like there is nothing there. If you look at music history though, you will notice a trend of certain great composers not being noticed in there own time, such as Bach or Mozart. But I agree there is a serious shortage of quality composers these days.

  • @phi223

Bach and Mozart, although Bach in a lesser extend, where certainly not unnoticed in their time.

  • @thepat29

Right, by unnoticed I mean they were not considered great within their own time, like Beethoven, or Brahms, they didn't live to see themselves made great. But Bach remained relatively obscure, and Mozart's operas were widely misunderstood, though he was recognized as an extraordinary talent.

  • @phi223

    Agreed, nicely put

  • @phi223 How did Bach remain "relatively obscure"? Mozart's operas weren't widely misunderstood. Beethoven wen't into hiatus, because he practically became deaf. And Brahms, Brahms has always been critized to have been overrated(i disagree partly with this fact). Just for the record. Most if not all of these musicians you have mentioned, were employed most of their lifetime. And they were both adored and well known in their time. Where did you get this idea from???Where have you read these facts?

  • @Ianthe22 Well, I would like to start off by saying that employment as a musician did not mean your were particularly special 300 years ago. Bach is considered a master of composition today, possibly considered one of the best, but in his own lifetime, he was not recognized as such. Mozarts opera's were generally considered too avant-garde and got bad reviews. I said that Beethoven and Brahms were great musicians, and were considered so, the difference is they lived to know it.

  • @phi223 You are not answering the previous statement in your last post. Mozart was pretty much noticable in his time from child prodigy till his death. He even turned down many salaries which was offered him through his carrier. Bach was considered one of the best organists in europe under his time. The reason why many of his more worldly pieces wasn't widely known was because of his dedication to his position as a kapelmeister.

  • @phi223 Another reason for why Bachs pieces weren't other than his religious pieces weren't weidely spread, was simply because he didn't intent it to be. He wrote a lot of his music under court, princes and nobles. Those pieces weren't his properties. He dedicated them to his employees. That's just how things were done back then. To be precise it is not that people didn't acknowledge his music during his lifetime. He didn't write it for them to hear, simple as that.

  • @Ianthe22 About Brahms. Brahms was leading, or even dictating the music culture/trends in Vienna during his most of his professional career. So how he wasn't "considered great during his own time"(your own words) is a mystery to me. Try look up "Count Ferdinand von Waldstein". He was considered in his younger years the next generation of elite composers, after Haydn. He started as a virtuos pianist, became a composer and practically played the rest of his life for kings and nobles.

  • @Ianthe22 I'm not trying to be rude, but this doesn't make much sense to me. You take 4 of the most popular classical composers and try make them look pityful and miserable. Ofcourse life isn't easy for any1, and considering these exceptional historical composers lives there must have been many ups and downs. But saying the things you did in your post i muct simply disagree with you. But we agree on one thing. They were great composers.

  • qu'est ce que vous pouvez dire comme connerie en anglais.... genre rien à voir avec le schwimblik...

  • This is my Absolute Favorite Piece. This Kid is Awesome!

  • My Absolute Favorite Piece. This Kid is Awesome!

  • i was flinching the whole time. i was SURE that he'd adjusted the bench so much that the bench would fly out from under him and he'd collapse in a heap...

  • why in our days there are no more people like chopin, beethoven, mozart, paganini etc?...why only we reproduce their songs?...where is the creativity?...to bad...

  • @georged2008

I guess talanted people put their creativity into something they get money out of.

I'm sure it's not easy to survive nowadays if you compose classical piano pieces..

    Won't sell.....

  • @nokich Disgusting...but true. No more to say.

  • @georged2008 I blame lady gaga.

  • god damn, i wish i could play the piano.

  • Beautifull!

  • Wow, this young man knows how to play!

  • FUck why is that whenever people show of their talent and their actually good, Half the fucking people in the world only notice or actually look for their failures. Then when find it the quicklly post it the comments. I personally thought this was astonishing its not like any ordinary person you might come across can play this well. So bigs ups for this kid. Beautiful peice.

  • @938608 u never compare yourself to someone lower than you, if you do then you will never improve, people need to be criticized more than praised its better that way. obviously stupid comments like, "you fckin suck" is not what i mean

  • My only gripe with this would be the intro, he takes his foot off the pedal too early, so instead of the notes being allowed to flow, they get cut off. It's a bit odd for me.

  • Comment removed

  • @onewayJess It's not.

  • He plays like a young V. Horowitz. Wonderful phrasing for such a young man.

  • are u a fat short old person? or a young good kid?

  • @andychen1890 Are you an idiot? or just an immature little kid who plays video games all day? And to bbrc554 " very well played, id love to hear this in person" 2 thumbs up

  • very matured intepretation for his age. bravo!

  • i like the tempo :]

but i would've emphasized the difference in the beginning [make the first time loud and the repeat softer], but that's just me.

    bravo :)

  • ummm... does anyone have any tips on playing scales? XDDD

  • @wongy2006

start by playing each note slowly on each hand. That way, you can make out a mistake in your hand posture.. if you know the correct hand posture for the piano..

That way, you would minimize your chances of getting carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinitis :D

  • @crazyghetto978818 ah okay! thanks ^_^

  • all i can say is

    wauw!!!!!!!!

    great job!!!

  • to slow for me, and why not give a little bit more heart, even of you are a little bit young

  • how old are you ? i have 12 and i perform this piece

  • very slow, but very good.

  • I actually like this song played slow but yes this was played a little too slow for my liking

  • wow!! Fantastic!! You are talented!! 5 stars!

  • I love his playing, it more than make up for his time lost in adjusting his chair. Thumbs up!

  • he spends half the time adgusting his seat lol

  • blavo

  • he play this song very well when i played this song It took me a while to get the trills in right this was like 2 years ago now I am working on pathetique first movment

  • I think that´s a very beautiful and emotional performance! Bravo!

  • How old is he??

  • sorry to sound abit stupid but what are trills?

  • the part where he repeatedly oscillates between two notes (next to each other) really fast. i think he played 8 trills...

  • fool

  • How do you train your fingers to play the trills so rapidly??

  • Do it often and try to relax your fingers. Power isn't going to do any good here. Just try to do it often, dont expect to much from yourself in a short period of time.

  • Spot on!

  • A lot of it is muscle memory and as stated by Raikara its about relaxing, as soon as you do that your fingers flow with much more ease.

  • Beautiful wristwork and technique.:)

  • why always this lil asian kids ??

  • cuz he pwns ur ass

  • young Spielman = )

  • this guy's 6/10.

    i give him a D

    D:

  • good playing, artistry and movements add to the effect! good job!

  • Bravo!

  • Very good!5*****

  • the most beautiful piece in the world...

  • @ChalieChaplin 1 OF THE MOST, LOL!!!!!!!!

  • @ChalieChaplin Too agree <3

  • Amazing performance! This is the way this piece is supposed to be played!

  • that's really awesome !

  • piano4me2: there's nothing wrong with using sheet music while performing. some people can't memorize music, like me, but that doesn't make me any less talented. it just means that their brain has the ability to process and store all the music. it's impressive, but don't put down people for using music. grow up a little. :)

  • Hmm, i don't agree completely.

While musically, you can perform the same, he can play it without sheets and you can't. It's quite boldly put but it is true.

It's cool if you can play brilliant music just by memory, if you need sheets, it's still cool :)

  • Also! sight reading sheet music is kind of more talented because! some people cant sight read but they can memorize the notes, this obviously makes learning process a bit slower because you cant just read the sheets but if you can both! thats ultimate! so you have sheets for remembering that littl bit you didnt remember and play the rest by memory. awesome!

  • agreed. i know a lot of people who can play songs by heart but are terrible sightreaders. when i first started piano, i would remember the sound and the tempo my piano teacher would play it at and never look at the sheet music. i'd always look at my hands. but now, i find it very difficult to play by heart because i only sight read. i can only play by heart if i dont look at my hands....its weird lol. is that normal?

  • i think it varies- i mean some people cant play without looking at their hands, some can play with blindfolds.. however if you practice song a whole lot, you will eventually learn it without looking.. or maybe not.

  • i'm still at the playing by heart and by listening stage.. how can you sight read? its so hard..

  • heres a tip on sight reading. Dont look at your hands unless its like a big leap, infact dont look at yours...Try to really not look at all!

Just look at the music and try and guess where the note is. Feel the intervals from 1 key to the next.

The more you sight read the more you wil start to reconize patterns and wont even think about seeing where they are.

Why dont you try getting fun pieces and just reading thru a few for fun. See if you can do it :).

    hope this helps

  • yeah start with some simple czerny 599 pieces, and move up the czerny lane...

  • its this little thing called practice.

  • @Irenerz I think once you know how the melody works, thats when you can play by heart.

  • *clap* *clap* *clap*

  • wow amazing!!

  • hmm, actually the things that makes all young kids can play piano well is because that they can have full focus on piano, arent like for the adults, we have a lot of things to thnik of, like our future life and others and thts y distraction is the cause of the problem for the adult that cant really focus well.

  • thats a whole lot of rubbish... you know that...maybe some adults cant focus but most can...

  • he's just saying that children have more of an advantage because they don't have to worry as much as adults. They are typically more focused because their parents take care of all their needs for them... My opinion anyway. I dare you to tell me adults don't have to worry about paying bills and making ends meet *-*

  • ... have you ne respect for the homeless. haha joking. well thats right but. its not like children dont focus on other things aswell like.. whats for dinner? they have homework to do, if they dont do it they dont get dessert. they want to play fotball with stanley next door, they want to go to the toilet... etc.. now I dare you tell me children don't have to go to the toilet! (homeless and poor african kids does not count)

  • they do but it doesen't distract you... They have LESS things to worry about. clear advantage.

  • Hahaha you know i said i was joking i the last comment :P

And also stanley next door is the cool kid:P

  • @0blacone I don't even have desert, Breakfast, lunch, dinner that's it

  • Adults typically have more focus/dedication/passion, though. The reason why prodigy kids are exceptional is that 99% of people their age lack the dedication to practice.

  • guess i can't deny you that ..... i don't practice my violin enough... :-/

  • nvm that isn't me and it was just the blur on the screen when u look at it he's not that fat. Anyways u play the piano good!

  • wow, this kid is definitely a talent to be reckoned with. i know he can grow into it, he already shows some of the feeling and expertise, very nice!

  • I agree Puppyman.

You may be able to learn all the technical side of piano at a very young age, but you can't learn feeling.

There is no emotion with this kid, it is nothing compared to when you here it played by older experienced pianists.

  • Please cheering for our young artists and celebrating their talents.

I just have to say what you like may not what I like. And from your profile, you are a kid too :-)

  • I agree with you, I love the Romantic style of playing.

I think that children shouldnt play chopin music, personally. It requires so much depth, and passion, and whenever I hear a younger people play chopin it always sounds a little flat to me.

Although, he played it with great technically ability, I think.

  • The young fellow has done well in studying the piano, and he certainly has the technical capability to play the notes correctly, but I commented because I noticed people raving over him as though the performance was definitive or worthy of a standing ovation. I am simply trying to say that he would have to study a little more to have complete mastery of the piece.

  • he already has a few rubatos and dynamics. i had used the music to match every measures, he had done a great job performed as written. for his age, i think he needs a standing ovation.

As other has mentioned before, could you show a better playing.

yes, some more rubatos may make it better but ...

  • Some more explanation: Music is Organic, according to Paderewski, and a thing that morphs and changes in its reflections of human emotion. Chopin was rare among composers in that he put incredible passion into his music, and this is one of his most moving and sad pieces- it deserves the utmost attention to, as I said before, nuance, rubato, and dynamics.

  • Dear Puppyman:

Please post a video of your performance of this piece. I would love to hear it.

  • He may have talent, but has a very long way to go as far as interpretation, dynamics, rubato, and nuances like sotto voce are concerned. This piece (characteristic of Chopin's piano style) was written with shades of piano, pianissimo, etc., and must be presented in all of its colors. He does not make it sing! That is the main focus of Chopin's Nocturnes-they are songs, evoking images of lovers singing to one another in the night, etc.

  • I gave you a thumbs up to counter the negatives. I don't think many people understand that a piece must have feel. It is what brings the art into music. It is what differentiates us from a computer playing a midi file. A computer will execute the piece perfectly and yet still lack the expression that is key to turning a piece into a work of art.

That said, I find it difficult to see where this pianist is going wrong. I don't, however, know the piece in detail, having not played it myself.

  • to be honest, i have no clue in piano, but this sounds 99.999999999999999% legit to me!!!

  • I like that kid.. I don't feel jealous like I usually would, just impressed. I could really feel the piece while listening to that.

  • Amazing job with this! May look a bit easy, but actually quite difficult. Very smooth trills and scales.

  • Good feeling, though at times i think more rubato would enhance the atmosphere.

  • Beautiful performance - he feels the pain in this piece. A stunning interpretation.

  • SHOW US BETTER.

  • You would like to see better?

  • my piano teacher wants me to play this...O_o

  • pretty amazing. im working on this piece right now and i have some problems with measure 13. its a short song and pretty easy but its so hard to make it sound good. you rock

  • good!!! new chopins are growing up!!! sure it is steinweys

  • He plays it so well !!!!

  • It's more enjoyable to listen when kids put much feeling into their playing.

  • nice

  • That piano looks like a Steinwey.

  • is it a steinway?

  • It's feint, but I've seen a good chunk of Steinways lately, and that logo looks like the Steinway logo. Correct me if I'm wrong. Lol

  • Yes it is

  • wow.. look at that grand piano, such a beauti.

  • nice. you want a cookie?

  • think he needs some milk first.

  • you eat them at the same time. whats wrong with you all lol

  • No worries, he just needs to grow a foot more. He can hardly touch the pedals, look at how far he sits up front?

  • i think this is one of the best versions i've listened. very well performed, congratulations.

  • great!

  • Good job!

  • Truly beautiful...I loved it...

    My congratulations!

  • Beautiful.

  • its.. so nice.. well done!

  • Beautiful Sound!

  • Wow! Wonderful! You played beautifully.
