  • I enjoy your videos as much as bug me videos,i would be nice if some one will make in 2 parts......

  • could learn more if it wasnt a 10 second video

  • when u put the rods onto the crank, do they have a side??

  • I just got my first vw bug 71 standard and will be building my first engine soon. These videos sure are helpful and much thanks for your time. I happen to love the music and your shop is fine. Much thanks!!!!

  • These videos are seriously cool! I'm hoping to get around to rebuilding a classic Beetle/van engine someday. Thanks for the upload :)

Also, just out of curiosity, how much would you say it costs to get new parts to rebuild one of these engines?

  • Why the clips for holding the lifters. I've built dozens of bug motors over the years and always just coated the lifter with white grease. Never had a problem

  • The two reasons i use clips are:

The clips are much easier to use.

You never have a lifter fall out when putting the top half of the block on. Iv'e used grease myself but for me the clips are the best way to go,

In the end its whatever floats your boat.

  • There is only one setting which is 360p. Youtube doesn't provide the 240p setting on this or most all of your videos that have this problem.

  • When I click on 360 I get a choice to play at 240. It works for most people.

This is a YouTube problem and they cant see to fix it.

  • I'm building a VW Trike. Can you tell me were i might be able to pick up a 003 Automatic Transmission?

  • Junk yard is the only place I can think of.

  • The videos that run fast choose to run it at 240p not 360p

this should work for most of them

  • @giantart The videos that run fast choose to run it at 240p not 360p

  • Hey jack, I went to view the video and it is in warp speed. How can this be slowed down? I sure appreciate your expertise with the information you prove for use new guys learning to build engines. Thanks alot....

  • What happen to your video. Your moving like the dickens and it's too short.

  • Whart happened to your videos? all of them are so fast.....don't work at this way..upload them again

  • You didn't mention that the notch on the rod goes up. Dennis

  • Hey, do you know if I could Use a 1600cc motor to a 1200cc transmission. This is my first vw. Thanks.

  • yes you can but the flywheel will rub, you have to do a little grinding.

  • @Zikore82 yes you can but the flywheel will rub, you have to do a little grinding

  • cheers mate nice video,.. helps us young fellas like me who are doin it for the first time

  • so heating up the gear expands it so it can slide on the shaft, that gears for the timing right? i had to do the same for an onan 20hrs except i used a oil pan with oil and a torch to get it hot

  • Yes it is for timing.

  • bella musica the Beatles

  • Thank you for doing this

  • Thank you so much for putting up these videos. I don't know anything about cars and I'm trying to learn. These are a great start!

  • You're doing great without a camera man! One advantage is that the video is nice and still, but I know what you mean. I do a lot of one-handed filming and sometimes you can't help but get grease on the camera .. or have to stop and set it down when you have to have both of your hands, etc.

I'm not a VW person but I love your videos! Thanks for making them.

  • es mi tio muy muy muy muy muy bueno para arnar vw exelente

  • Good idea, a felt pen works good also.

  • I like to take the rear 2 bearings and fit them in the case first and scribe them lightly so when I slip the crank into the case with the bearings on I do not have to guess where the dowel pin hole is.

  • Hey, thanks a million for posting these videos! I just discovered my love for VDubs and I want to learn everything I can about the old air-cooled engine. Thanks again.

  • Graet vid's,,but i dont know how you can work in that mess man,,i make my engine shop like a hospital,,well, not an english one,,they are all dirty,,heheh

  • LOL, but it's an Organized mess, really. (-:

Thanks for all your comments, funny and to the point, I like that.

    Jack

  • what was the reason for heating up the gear?

  • You have to heat the gears to expand them to slide on the crank.

  • Just builded a VW engine at school now, a little bigger one than this, but thanks a lot for your helpful video's, kepp 'em coming :)

  • jack i love the music...can't beat the classics

  • Can't work without the oldies on the radio.

  • Yeah I was just gonna say...Great soundtrack!! :P you rock for putting these video's on here 6d. I got a 69 bus

  • Nice working, some of us dont have the lifters retainers, we can use some of grease to keep those lifters in place.

  • Ya, I use to use grease also (-; just dont put it on to thick.

  • immensely. The engine isn't so scary after all!

  • fantastic. loving it so far.

  • Hope it helps you.

    jack

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you for your effort.
