  • Damn it! 20 minutes ago, when I was listening to Booker T and the MG's, I decided to click on a related video (It happened to be chicken strut), and since then I have been shuffling through all of The Meters tracks wishing I had known about them before!!!!

Best funk group I have ever heard in my life, and I've heard a lot!

  • I LOVE THE METERS! SO FUNKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This will always remind me of catching beads at the Carnival parades on Canal. Did anyone get any coconuts over the years? Long live NOLA.

  • @TheTiki5 I got the fake pearls a couple times -- you can get tit with the fake pearls

  • Beastie Boys once sampled the beginning part when the piano comes in

  • @enoezark THAT's why it sounds familiar! Offa Paul's Boutique!

  • This is badass! Heard this on the radio and usedd my shazaam app and here I am!

  • I love the New Orleans funky blend The Meters brought to their music magic !

  • Ziggaboo- NOW THERE is the ORIGINAL

  • i wish i was from this period!!!! <3

  • yeah... a skip in the record... that shows my age.

  • Sampled used in Beastie Boys - "B-Boy Bouillabaisse: Dropping Names" I got the original 1974 album and it's one of the best album I ever own.

While Im at it, why The Meters never got inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is beyond my imagination.

  • awwwwriightttt!!! Keep on groovin... Good for your body good for your soul!!!

  • Love the Meters

  • did anyone hear that at 2:00?

  • NewOrleans Funk at its best....

  • Hackadoo!

  • BEST O THE BEST ALL UP AND DOWN THE STRAND OF THE GULF!

  • this was the funky stuff back then but we were not sayin "pocky",ha ha ha

  • Heard of them from a friend. Decided to chekc it out. My mind was blown at how funky their music is! Listening to this made me want to dance like I never danced before!

  • Just added this to "/playlist?p=2F89242708C3E0BB" which is inspired by the Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique album. Just add what's between the quotes to the end of the youtube home URL...youtube dot com.

  • Get down get FUNKY get back up again

  • aah, the memories

  • Damn I love The Meters. No way around it.

  • Best Mardi Gras song ever!!

There's many great Mardi Gras songs, but this version is an immortal classic.

It's good fo' ya body and good fo' ya soul.

  • That beat is called "second line" and is particular to the Bayou.

  • Makes me miss home

  • @creole888 We miss you to!!!!!!!!!

  • one week

  • funk at its best

  • Big TYME!!

  • heeeeyyy nah baaaby!!!!! 23 days to Mardi Gras...I'm getting in the mood!!!!

  • I remember being a kid of 15 years old when I was going to see The Rolling Stones at Vorst-Nationaal, Brussels. It would be my first important rock concert and I was very excited about it. But when I saw the Stones they weren't as good as I had thought & hoped for. Thanks for me a then unknown band to me opened the show and that band was The Meters. I got very impressed of them and I am still a fan.

  • i'm going next year no matter what!!!!

  • @dusttracks So... did you?

  • After more than 35 years still hearable and grooving - funk at its best. Play the bass loud!

There will be no one, who will ever reach their level of playing funk - dark times for funklovers? No, take a grip in your collection and let even move and groove your kids though the funky sound - all nowadays crapmusic will be by sudden what it is "garbage" abd forgotten...

  • "He thrusts his hands against the post, and still insists he sees a ghost"

  • One person disliked this? Someone needs a heart transplant.

  • @bapyou

    or a brain transplant!

  • @TurriFunky You have good taste in music.I'm 46 years old and i used to listen to this music when i was your present age.

  • @MrAkkhan

Your just saying that he has good taste because he likes what you like. Taste in something or not, liking something or not, saying something is good or bad is completely subjective and arbitrary. It's just your opinion. Not saying your wrong for liking something I'm jus saying.

  • @MrAkkhan Thank You!!!...four years when I was listening to Otis Redding.....excuse errors

  • @TurriFunky

You can find it online. See The Meters, or See Neville Brothers, or see Leo Nocentelli, George Porter, Jr. It is the best of New Orleans music.

They're actually one of the few surviving stores in B.R. I don't know if Buddy's R.S. is still open, but they had some great stuff as well.

  • one of my fav things was playing this song with the band on a float in the parades going down St Charles, Lee Cirlcle and Canal street with the whole crowd singing along. I lived in New Orleans all my life but I dont think I ever really saw Mardi Gras for what it was until that moment, playing for the biggest crowd ever, you couldn't fit that many people in a stadium
