  • One of the best performances I've heard of this sonata. Amazing.

I love appassionata and I love Beethoven.

  • There are no mistakes in any of her videos.

  • amazing piece, amazing musician. thankyou

  • A wonderful 57. In 4:13 (take a still) also wonderful hair and a wonderful Nose. Val at its best. Great !!!!!

  • I hope I can shake her hand and talk about a minute or two after the concert. But that is not what I do for life. This is just to be proud of being a human and understand that playing piano is possible and more. She plays more and more. Life is fragile but still somebody does this. Puts me thinking Pink Floyd too. They made something similiar. Just to be a pianist that is difficult. I think this woman has at least few good people around. Amazing power ! JK

  • thumbs up for judo chopped do's from 8:20-25

  • Fantastica

  • thumbs up if u love the way she pets the piano...

  • valentina, i noticed that you don't alternate fingers for fast repeated notes very often, i find it difficult to acquire this technique. is there a reason that you don't do so? i don't know if i should spend a lot of time practicing this technique; is it worth it?

  • @AvidHobbyist In my opinion, the repeated notes weren't fast enough in this piece for the tremolo technique to be necessary. There are however, pieces where you would need it. If you look up this video: Martha Argerich - scarlatti, sonata k. 141, you will see a great example of this...

  • Beautiful!! I can Only Wish

  • C est clair que pour s attaquer à ce morceau avec autant de maitrise faut en avoir du talent !!!

    Bravo

  • That's absolutely incredible, you have an enormous amount of talent!

  • Please post a performance of Tempest Sonata!!!!

  • not flaming, but did she miss one at 7:46 ? caught my ear and wanted to ask

  • @fireslayne no for gods shake...go to a doctor :P joking

  • Rubenstein was notorius for missing notes...but still one of the greatest. Sometimes, it's not always about hitting the notes :)

  • she's the piano god

  • @bernemantruemetal *goddess

  • She plays like an angel !

  • wonderful!

  • how can someone create such thing... i feel inferior

    this music is perfect

  • Eventhough I am an atheistic, you are the reason I believe in Heaven.

  • carrie white

  • freaking amazing :o

  • The final coda of this sonata, came to my mind once, when in the news they showed a bull hurled several times a guy... actually it was not funy..

    8:53 firts impact

9:12 when the guy was on the ground

  • Lisitsa means Fox in my language -bulgarian :)

  • You are so amazing!

  • Will you marry me? (:

  • thumbs up if your leaning on your left elbow...

  • @MunchwipeProductions that creeped me out i actually AM leaning on my left elbow no joke

  • @MunchwipeProductions ...How did you do that?

  • @CaramelMarshmallow freal... LOL

  • Appassionata Movement 1 is on another level of greatness beyond the other 2 movements.

  • holy shit 2:00

  • 35 people are jealous

  • "exploding coda" ?? sounds like someone says "thank you" ... lank trippy

  • She looks so absorbed....so passionate in her playing....

it's mezmorizing to watch, let alone to listen to. I dream of ever being able to become the music like she does. It's almost unworldly.

  • Valentina Lisitsa is the goddess of the piano. She beats the gods so easily. I don't think anyone ever palyed like her. Andre Previn and Dubravka Tomsic are the best and Valentina Lisitsa is one of them. Unfortunately, she is so under-rated. Long, long time from now she will be remembered as one of the greatest piano players ever. It's a feast for the ears and the eyes to hear and see her play. Thank you, Ms. Lisitsa, for being who you are and play the way you do.

  • i just love the exploding coda at 8:55

  • so clean sounding i loveee it

  • incredible!

  • Excellent as regards the technical aspect of the piece, I suppose...

But I find the emotion expressed, how do I put it, too banal?

  • Speechless!!! Outstanding performance...Thank you Valentina!!!

  • The notes are beautifully hit at the right time. Unfortunately I don't what was being expressed by the composer is being accurately conveyed.

  • How much time have you beeing playing piano? you are amazing

  • how can she play while her shoulders are touching her ears? wtf? that's not right

  • @Fucknkicker How can you see that - ears are covered by long hair...? Obviously she is not strained

  • @hernannews And don't forget Székely. He's done the 23rd in unbelievable speed.

  • One of the greatest pianists I've seen in my life..

    beautiful! :)

  • you understand Betthoven Valentina! only a few other pianists could and can (Richter, Arrau, Argerich and a few more) congratulations!

  • @hernannews Don't forget Kempff: my dad has a complete set of Beethoven's piano sonatas, as recorded by Kempff in the '60s. Absolutely superb.

  • this is my favorite Beethoven sonata movement - and i think it was played beautifully - my only complaint would have to be all the hair in her face because I thinks it interesting to look at the pianist's facial expressions when they're playing

  • Wow she has muscles

  • Simply beautiful playing

  • ima marry beethoven

  • This is great, but i think you should try richter.

  • wow. amazing

  • Beethoven was a black man.

  • @0571352 But, seriously, this girl is wonderful! She has a very delicate touch (and she's not black, Mr. 0571352! :) Definitely powerful when it's needed and absolutely nice and accurate in the bass, which, in this particular sonata, is quite demanding... I personally love her transitions in the trills.

  • 30 people like Nickelback ... or Bach

  • People think SHE'S amazing. She is, but consider how good Beethoven must've been to write this?... :O

  • They say that Beethoven created this piece by a means of fighting his 'destiny' of becoming deaf. As quoted, "I shall seize fate by the throat, it shall certainly never overcome me." Additionally, it is thought that his lover (Therese, cousin of Giuletta Guicciardi, who is thought to have inspired the 'Moonlight' sonata) inflamed him to compose Appasionata. Regardless of the logistics, this sonata is captivating.

  • Thats freakish.

  • Wow its amazing how you can play it :o.You are just AMAZING !?

  • Thank you Beethoven!

  • Breathtakingly beautiful, such wonderful music

  • truly wonderful! You play beautifully! <3

  • Valentina always plays things at a higher level.

  • wonder who the 29 people were who disliked it

  • Ohhhhhhh my. Vas is das?

  • Техника профессиональна. Музыка совершенна. Впечатление потрясающее. Одно непонятно -- почему в родной Украине просмотров меньше, чем в Южной Корее?..

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I used to think classical music was boring. At least, what I played of it was boring to me. Now that I'm preparing for my senior recital, and I'm playing this, I'll never think such nonsense again.

  • Not only could I not do this, I don't think I can even MEMORIZE the entire song. I think that's what impresses me the most.

  • I wish I had the chance to listen to the concert afterwards. Very very good. Thanks for posting your excellent videos!

  • Damn, I will never be this good, no matter how hard I try :(

  • 0:42 her left hand....love it.

  • This is the best, and @v wat every ur name is go look at the live video with the guy playing ther is drama 4 u. Guy looks like he is sniffing his hands and the air in the process. U want to speak intelligence? The drama and the feeling is in the music and the heart and judging by her face she was passionate of wat she was doing. For sum ppl its distracting to move around while playing. So go back to high school, get ur drama ther and bug off. She was perfect and i am happy with that, if u are n

  • I love this sonata, and I believe you performed extremely well. I do hope you continue to do what you do.

  • Is it true that you'll start learning The Tempest.

  • tecnica eccellente bravissima, ma l'anima? la passione?

  • @ariko2821 her father made her leave beethoven for a rich man. she didnt do it on purpose.

@laudan08 its been named moonlight sine 1832 when a man named ludwig something wrote one of the first reviews on it and compared it to moonlight on a lake. so for nearly 200 years its been called moonlight. i know it be memory and have performed it several times in competitions and all pianists call it moonlight. you tell me how many people will know what youre talking about if you say quasi una fantasia

  • Lovely to watch and delightful to listen to, surely, Valentina, you bring a new dimension to this music.

You bring such pleasure to so many, God bless you.

    Brian

  • Technically perfect performance. But where is the drama? This is the most dramatic Beethoven's sonata and I dont feel the drama.

  • @vgarouf Perhaps the problem is with you rather than the performer?. All is subjective I suppose...

  • @Deesade86 Sorry, but 24 years old and you talk about drama? Wait for at least another 24 years in order to understand. The performers give their best at 60+ years old and this is not by chance.

  • @vgarouf One of the defining reason why i love this interpretation is because there is a sufficient yet not overstated drama in the performance. You know if you use too much drama it drags down the performance and the drama just becomes weird dynamics or sometimes facial expression.

  • If this was a mere rehearsal run, how was the actual recital ?

  • Hope she does a complete cycle of Beethovens sonatas

  • Valentina, what Can i say??

This is the best performance i came across for this Sonata,,,,,,you astonished me and i can't hold my self to listen to you again and again and again.

    Thanks Beethoven and Thanks Valentina

  • è un mito!...... non è una ragazza ma è pura musica.... ^^

  • So, does anyone else think Anne Rice based Sybelle of this wonderful girl? :D

  • @KuyuriByakuugan though this too. (:

  • beethoven composed this when he was in love with one girl

    and a student of mozart

  • @MrRamosmarvin49

I don't believe there's any solid evidence of Beethoven being a student of Mozart's...

  • @MrRamosmarvin49 No, he composed the Moonlight sonata when julietta broke his heart and he was seeing her face everytime he was looking at the moon... About appassionata.. he played it for the first time for a girl he loved...

  • @Ariko2821 DUDE! The sonata wasn't named moonlight until a review of his work, a few years after Beethoven's death.

  • @Laudan08 thats what its known as. because its been named that for a number of years now. if you walk around saying no 14 in c# minor quasi una fantasia.....tell me how many people will say oh yea i know EXACTLY what song that is. its called moonlight now. because im a piano player and moonlight is the first song i learned and i know it by memory and have performed it several times. EVERY pianist ive competed with knows it as moonlight. so good job trying to be smart about it.

  • Beautiful!!!! _:)

  • Vienna, the classical heart of music... ...absolutly amazing.

  • aaah!!!! Sybelle!!!!!

  • Amaaaaaaazzinggg!!! She's my new favorite pianist!

  • ooo a person that know about sybelle great im not the onlie one XD

  • Fantastic performance!

  • Valentina, i do believe you are the most underrated pianist of our time. Unlike most other virtuoso pianist out there, You post countless videos of your performance. I appreciate it greatly, like most other people. I hope you never stop making more videos.

  • @Khang112 virtuosa is the feminine form of virtuoso...

  • I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  • ear orgasm

  • *applause*

  • 2:00 is the best part :)

  • My favorite Beethoven sonata. He was raging at heaven's gate to be let in!And her performance is exquisite.

  • My favorite Beethovrn sonata. He was raging at heaven's gate to be let in!And her performance is exquisite.

  • Brilliant, Bravo!

  • Encore une page d'anthologie de la part de Valentina Lisitsa dans cette interprétation magistrale de l'appassionata, on cherche vainement où se trouve pour elle la difficulté tellement son jeu et souple et ne respire aucune difficulté

    (apparente) Bravo, Bravo!!!

  • this piece melted my heart ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

  • she is too very concerned with the notes she is playing. not what the notes are saying. which when it all comes down to it, is why we have music.

  • @LasserWulfBand, and who are you, the King of Piano? I think she did splendidly, and there was much enthusiasm in her work, her notes "said" plenty to me.

  • @LasserWulfBand If you aren't concerned about what notes are being played, then you'll definitely run into some problems with pieces like this.

  • ............no words

  • wonderful

  • wonderful

  • i wish I could watch your performance in Hong Kong!

  • very well played but it's got no feeling! this sonata shouldn't be so happy and clear-cut. I'd appreciate some more sneakiness and subtlety. just my opinion I suppose :)

  • The piano sounds so tinny. it must not be a Steinway.

  • I thank from the bottom of my heart to have posted your videos for ordinary people like us... God will bless you!

  • so generous to present it here for all - thank you!

  • so generous to prsent it here for all - thank you!

  • Sinceramente desconocía a esta pianista, pues es tal su virtuosismo que me ha dejado asombrado; a mis 70 años de edad. Gracias a Yow tube.

  • Comment removed

  • @Laudan08 well,if you meant pathetic,then-no

  • I absolutely love this sonata! Amazingly performed! One day I, hopefully, I will get to see this live, and I hope they are at least half as good as you. :D

  • fantastico!!

  • YOU ARE SO GREAT!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant interpretation of this masterpiece, gave me the chills.

  • @stickstam

Actually this interpretation belongs to Maria Grinberg, who plaid so in 60ies and early 70es. It is very good, that the interpretation of Maria Grinberg is sustained by young performers!

  • (y)

  • beethoven, the first rocker in the history of music.

  • this is insane talent

  • merveilleux

  • @Yeiv16 You're right, but it happens with a lot of classical music, like in my case, with Tchaikovsky's ballets, or Beethoven's Triple Concerto ... or with a lot of pieces... Why is music so Beautiful?

  • her flowing mane covering her face totally adds to it =) as a side note, she kind of reminds me of Eowyn from Lord of the Rings haha

  • The Piano Goddess makes me weep with Joy. Wow!

  • wow that was incredible

  • I never fully understood the pleasure in listening to such music until i smoked weed

  • Valentina Lisitsa playing the odiously monstrous Piano Sonata of Beethoven...................... wonderful indeed....

  • Armand crying. Beethowen alive in her fingers. I'm dying. Beauty.

  • @InfernalSting the very reason why i checked out this beautiful melody!

  • im in love ...

  • best appassionata I ever heard - am 81 years old. am profesor at Columbia University.

  • @matsuokashiro haha no you are not

  • So powerful so beauty!!! so perfectly

  • My friends for some reason HATE classical music, I on the other hand LOVE it. Amazing job.

  • That's Fantastic...You nailed it!

  • Enjoyed this recording, very cleanly delivered and subtle.

Ms Lisitsa can certainly come round my house and thumb through my sheet music!

  • You're beautiful Valentina !

  • This girl totally reminds me of my lovely Sybelle (L)

  • @KevinKtz Thank you for mentioning that :)

  • @KevinKtz I agree!

  • @KevinKtz exactly my thoughts. Golden long-libed Sybelle, lovely and sweet at young 25, the quiet girl, who asked to play the piano in church full of vampires.

    Silly loving, mortal, girl.

  • @KevinKtz Kira

  • @KevinKtz That's no girl. That's a woman.

  • ok, beethoven made me again feel impotent.

  • @Laudan08 That's nonsense; if you can feel the immense power of this piece, you have that power inside of you. Don't be afraid of it.

  • when I played this piece my teacher used to say go easy on the pedal. so apart from a little excessive pedal there the timing and touch is excellent.

  • its bosendorfer or stainway pls ???? :) have very nice sound

  • @MegaTomco It's a bosendorfer!

  • arg

  • Wow...I really like that piano.

  • i forgot to add the most important thing. This Valentina or whatever is her name feels what she plays and that makes her an artist and not her technique(which is terrific anyway) or other interpretation quality. She feels. That's all it really matters

  • @alexciobanu "this Valentina or whatever is her name" ...

  • congratulations.one of the best Appasionatas i ever heard.just one think , you sometimes "rush" impression on some more"thoughtful" parts.

  • You move as I image Sybelle does....

  • Oh Lisitsa youre so sweet

  • This almost makes me cry.

  • not my favourite interpretation tbh (horowitz or gieseking), too much rubato and some parts sounds very laboured, but then again, who am i to comment? :)

  • just awesome

  • hawt ;D

  • the most amazing woman in the world

  • sit up straight.

  • Lenin once said: If i keep listening to Appassionata i wont finish the Revolution.
