I hope I can shake her hand and talk about a minute or two after the concert. But that is not what I do for life. This is just to be proud of being a human and understand that playing piano is possible and more. She plays more and more. Life is fragile but still somebody does this. Puts me thinking Pink Floyd too. They made something similiar. Just to be a pianist that is difficult. I think this woman has at least few good people around. Amazing power ! JK
valentina, i noticed that you don't alternate fingers for fast repeated notes very often, i find it difficult to acquire this technique. is there a reason that you don't do so? i don't know if i should spend a lot of time practicing this technique; is it worth it?
@AvidHobbyist In my opinion, the repeated notes weren't fast enough in this piece for the tremolo technique to be necessary. There are however, pieces where you would need it. If you look up this video: Martha Argerich - scarlatti, sonata k. 141, you will see a great example of this...
Valentina Lisitsa is the goddess of the piano. She beats the gods so easily. I don't think anyone ever palyed like her. Andre Previn and Dubravka Tomsic are the best and Valentina Lisitsa is one of them. Unfortunately, she is so under-rated. Long, long time from now she will be remembered as one of the greatest piano players ever. It's a feast for the ears and the eyes to hear and see her play. Thank you, Ms. Lisitsa, for being who you are and play the way you do.
this is my favorite Beethoven sonata movement - and i think it was played beautifully - my only complaint would have to be all the hair in her face because I thinks it interesting to look at the pianist's facial expressions when they're playing
@0571352 But, seriously, this girl is wonderful! She has a very delicate touch (and she's not black, Mr. 0571352! :) Definitely powerful when it's needed and absolutely nice and accurate in the bass, which, in this particular sonata, is quite demanding... I personally love her transitions in the trills.
They say that Beethoven created this piece by a means of fighting his 'destiny' of becoming deaf. As quoted, "I shall seize fate by the throat, it shall certainly never overcome me." Additionally, it is thought that his lover (Therese, cousin of Giuletta Guicciardi, who is thought to have inspired the 'Moonlight' sonata) inflamed him to compose Appasionata. Regardless of the logistics, this sonata is captivating.

@ariko2821 her father made her leave beethoven for a rich man. she didnt do it on purpose.
@laudan08 its been named moonlight sine 1832 when a man named ludwig something wrote one of the first reviews on it and compared it to moonlight on a lake. so for nearly 200 years its been called moonlight. i know it be memory and have performed it several times in competitions and all pianists call it moonlight. you tell me how many people will know what youre talking about if you say quasi una fantasia
@Deesade86 Sorry, but 24 years old and you talk about drama? Wait for at least another 24 years in order to understand. The performers give their best at 60+ years old and this is not by chance.
@vgarouf One of the defining reason why i love this interpretation is because there is a sufficient yet not overstated drama in the performance. You know if you use too much drama it drags down the performance and the drama just becomes weird dynamics or sometimes facial expression.
This is the best performance i came across for this Sonata,,,,,,you astonished me and i can't hold my self to listen to you again and again and again.
@MrRamosmarvin49 No, he composed the Moonlight sonata when julietta broke his heart and he was seeing her face everytime he was looking at the moon... About appassionata.. he played it for the first time for a girl he loved...
