  • How long did this take to create?

  • this is from 2006 so ....

  • Well, it's not that great. The lighting was alright, but the models, textures and materials were all very low quality. Keep working on it.

  • @anim8ordude Thanks for your feedback... although I have to point out:

    1) This video is 3 years old,

    2) All the geometry was hand crafted using text files and primitives entered manually, so I hope you can understand why it isn't anything special.

    Cheers.

  • @gfool Ah! Ok. Pretty cool that you did it all in a text file. I'm going to check out some new videos now...

  • It's better than my first effort!

  • sorry, but his really sucks...

  • so is this a program like POV-ray???

  • Thanks!

The water was done using a RiProcudural call which spat out a grid of displaced points. Simple, but it worked :)

The water fades off as it gets further into the distance to make it look bigger than it really is.

Other than the water, everything else was hand coded straight into the RIB file.

It was quite painful actually, heh.

  • Very nice. Are the water ripples generated by displacement?

  • Is it hard to do the renderman thing? Do you have to be good at computer animation or is it a easy to deal with program?

  • It's too hard to use fo me. I don't see any reason why I should use it instead of mental ray, VRay, finalRender, or Turtle.

  • oh. Well I'm in the middle of making a movie and I thought mabye I could do some of the special effects myself. I'm just going to hire some people I think.

  • Yeah I know. It was only used in...

The Lion The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Spiderman 3, Toy STory 2, Ratatouille, and some other lame non-mentionable films.

  • llike the greatest bullshit ever been spoken.

renderman is used to make about all the pixar movies, and is used by about all the other big companies as dreamworks, fox and so on.. both for the animation movies but also for the specialeffects in all these movies.. renderman

  • I was being sarcastic buddy. I know! It's awesome software!

  • good i was kinda thinking of that after i had written that message.

anyway god i would like to own that program its just so damn expensive - sadly.

    animation <3 :D

  • @NoogahOogah umm.... unmentionable films??? if it's unmentionable then why do you know it?? ... hay... this films are great films...

  • I told you, it was sarcasm.

  • @itnat - you are right. There really is little reason to use it for most projects, especially if you can't code you're own materials.
