The federal repuplic of Yugoslavia was a victim of US geopolitical interests. There were no signs of genocide or planned massacres against the muslim/albanian population of Kosovo.
It was the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army), a terrorist organization (supported by the CIA and the MI6 like other terrorist groupst around the world, -> Afghanistan) that started to attack yugoslav police, military personnel and finally serbian and other non-albanian civillians.
Let's start at the beginning. There was growing Albanian nationalism for sure, the Yugoslav response was to utterly supress this activity by erasing Kosovan autonomy in 1990, and banning Albanian language newspaper and TV. It was later, in 1996, that the KLA formed and attacked Serbian security personnel. In response to this, Serbian troops began their campaign of retaliation, eventually leading to several massacres amounting to genocide. NATO went in to prevent this.

I believe Chomsky is wrong on the fact that Srebrenica was no Genocide, although i don't know if he meant Srebrenica or the murders before. Further the genocide in Srebrenica occured after the NATO bombarded the Serbs, so one can conclude that this was one factor for the genocide. The 2 brigades you speak of had to ally with the Nazis to protect themselves from cetnik massacres as evidenced in eastern bosnia, sandak regions. Furthermoer the Bosniaks were seen as having partial germanic ancestry by the german administration which helped them secure military assets, this was a strategic step.

If Bill Clinton was really concerned about the safety of a particular ethnic group -- in this case, the Albanians -- why then did he sponsor the bombing of an entire nation with a diverse ethnic background?

I must admit that i am ignorant when it comes to the Kosovo and its conflict, but he presented some serious accusations concerning the NATO which i will look into. That's why i think, for now, that he is not trying to defend anyone, but highlight the facet of the conflict that was left out of western media, namely the real reason for the conflict.
Like afghanistan, the US created the Taliban with Pakistan and then had to get rid of them. Of Course economics had a hand in it too.

The federal repuplic of Yugoslavia was a victim of US geopolitical interests. There were no signs of genocide or planned massacres against the muslim/albanian population of Kosovo.
It was the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army), a terrorist organization (supported by the CIA and the MI6 like other terrorist groupst around the world, -> Afghanistan) that started to attack yugoslav police, military personnel and finally serbian and other non-albanian civillians.

Let's start at the beginning. There was growing Albanian nationalism for sure, the Yugoslav response was to utterly supress this activity by erasing Kosovan autonomy in 1990, and banning Albanian language newspaper and TV. It was later, in 1996, that the KLA formed and attacked Serbian security personnel. In response to this, Serbian troops began their campaign of retaliation, eventually leading to several massacres amounting to genocide. NATO went in to prevent this.

I believe Chomsky is wrong on the fact that Srebrenica was no Genocide, although i don't know if he meant Srebrenica or the murders before. Further the genocide in Srebrenica occured after the NATO bombarded the Serbs, so one can conclude that this was one factor for the genocide. I still have to read further, just wanted you to clarify this first ;)

I am Croatian, born in Canada. I would agree with many of your observations and ideas. All war is well planned and is designed for some particular interest. Usually a monetary interest. Have you seen "Why we Fight"? It details very easily how profitable war is becoming. I cannot remember where I read it, but it was in the wake of Chomsky's infamous interview with the Guardian's Emma Brockes (which she botched). He has given credence to the claim that the butchery at Srebrenica was in some way a response to Muslim atrocities. Categorically wrong. And, have you read The Politics of the Srebrenica Massacre by Ed Herman, Chomsky's chum and co-author of Manufacturing Consent? Absolutely disgusting document.

Superficially, one may argue that if one State committed genocide against a culture then that state deserves being bombed by another State. Distinction must be between the State, abiding by this thing called capital, and the innocent civilians who happen to be geographically under the jurisdiction of this State. Generally NATO is an instrument of US imperialism. One can't grasp the Serb State's behaviour in isolation from opportunist separtist elements alligning more closely to NATO interests.
