My instructor plays a 1961 hand made Alexander. He allowed me to play it once and I've been hooked ever since. I am currently using a Holton H179 and I would absolutely LOVE to own an Alex!
Beautifully performed! Well done! I envy you, as I've never had the privilege to play with a group this large.
The french horn is arguably the most difficult instrument to play next to a double-reed instrument. and I quite agree with that, there are just too many things that can cause the horn to go out of tune with the rest of the ensemble/orchestra.
I just want to say that a horn ensemble of 12 is like the best thing since sliced bread. I play horn, and I don't think "Vienna horns are better..." After all this sounds amazing. I should go to Rutgers for the sole purpose of joining a horn ensemble. Brass ensembles are a thing of the past.
it was hard but gradual learning kicked in from the transition from tuba to baritone, then to tenor horn, then to french horn, the horn was by far the most dificult.
Pure awesomeness! Good job! I'm a horn player myself. Ever since I started playing the horn, I've wanted to play this. I can't seem to get ahold of the music though. lol
the highest note in the piece is a written high D above the staff. The solo is repeated twice in the piece, once at FF and the other at MP.
Our school utilizes the B horn a lot more than the F side. We only played F horn on certain notes, unless the horn itself doesnt agree with the tuning. :-P
It's copyrighted so you'd need to buy it off somewhere. I dunno who sells the arrangement though. I'd check all the major sheet music stores. It's on the London Horn Sound CD btw.
Well Im using a Halstead chidell 21A Z cup with an AS rim. Its mostly a high horn mouthpiece. I mightve been using the 23A though for this performance. I dont remember. I switch between mouthpieces for different ensembles and blend. Also, this ensemble plays mostly Alexander Horns.
Little tiny slip at the beginning going up to C#.
But this sounded so boss I could care less.

You guys sound about as awesome as the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra's horn section (they rock). Note to James Horner.

I played this piece at a music camp a few years back with about 20 high school french horn players. I think you guys did a good job with the piece :)

Yes. It's 2 of us playing it. Me and the guy directly behind me.

U 2 seem to have a very round, yet dark sound.
CassHern115 2 years ago
Well Im using a Halstead chidell 21A Z cup with an AS rim. Its mostly a high horn mouthpiece. I mightve been using the 23A though for this performance. I dont remember. I switch between mouthpieces for different ensembles and blend. Also, this ensemble plays mostly Alexander Horns.
