Dell personal pc's not so good due to poor support offering middle of road. The business lines Optiplex, Latitude, Precision are good systems with good support. Nothing wrong with them at all. HP pretty good as well but more money.

If you know what your doing you can use basic warranty. If you dont have skills buy the pro support. Pretty simple. Stay away from Vostro or Inspiron if its for a company environment.

All the others here cursing are just being provocative, would you hire them? Not I.

I will be honest, I have a Dell XPS 17 and I've not had a single problem with it, my customer service experience was also perfect. I guess it's down to who you get...but the adviser who assisted me with a delievery schedule was very polite and very helpful ! I guess it's down to the person and adviser you get which causes alot of people to hate dell. The quality of dell has improved ALOT of the past couple of years.

So many haters. I have found Dell to have a good quality product that generally lasts until the technology is obsolete. You will pay more for the newer technology to start but they last until replacement. They have standardized on Dell at my work also, and I don't recall any computers in my section of the company being replaced for hardware issues. My laptops have been rock solid and trouble free. We buy mid level systems and the company has something like a three year replacement policy.

I remember buying my first computer backing in 2000 from Dell for around $900, i was a kid back then and didn't know too much about computers, now mature and building my own computers i sometimes look back and say to myself what a waste! never ever buy a fully assembled computer! There are plenty of tutorials, parts guide and videos, learn to assemble one yourself, its dead easy and cuts cost %50 if buying parts used.

SERIOUSLY AVOID DELL They sell you their junk then within a year your warranty runs out, they charge you $230/year just to talk to you and all of their customer service are in INDIA and poorly trained, bad accent and you can't even download your pre-installed software because their 1000 Indian departments keep losing your account information. I was on the phone for 3 days and paid $175 for a problem that could've taken 10 minutes to solve.

So I re-installed the windows vista and all of my document files got deleted. I had to install without transfer of old files so the virus wouldn't come to the new windows. And I called to see if there's a way to recover my lost files. $175 & 3 days on the phone & a bad neck-ache later they didn't do a thing.

Then he went online into my computer & searched all of my files. Finally transfered me to level-1 & he said we can't .

Sadly this site has been closed in 2008 and all its plants in US are scheduled to close by 2011. Dell now runs huge manufacturing facilities in Mexico, Malaysia and China.

my friend bought a dell xps 600 from them many years ago. He spent many thousands for it. I helped him buy a much more powerful computer for much lower then the newer Dell model so he donated it to me. I would never buy a Dell (due to overpricing) but I do have to say the components are durable, the design was advanced with the custom cooling and component housings. Really an excellent machine that I am running VERY strong after all these years.
