John edward truesdale(squeaky)as theycalled him in the movie was the one whoreally broke that horse in.squeaky was my uncle.he died some yrs back now.i'm from pa but i grew up in camden s.c. in the same house withsqueaky.i called him dad.when he, my father and my uncles use to work out in belmont long island and deleware park i use to go see them.minor massey played a big part in ruffian's development as well.they were the stablehandlers.
wow.. i cant believe it.. she was only two.. she could of had a longer time.. a better life.. but just one race.. i like racing and all.. but its so dangerous and bad.. hmmm * sighs*
Wow, that made me cry. She was so gorgeous. I truly think she was the best filly to ever race, and quite frankly, she's among the best horses to ever race.
I personally don't believe in Allah...but this makes sense to me when I see Ruffian run..."Good for pursuit as for flight, thou shalt fly without wings...Then he signed him with the sign of glory and good fortune, a star in the middle of the forehead." (What Allah said and did when he created the horse.)
i hated the movie. they took way too many liberties with the truth when they did not need to.
First off, jacinto vasquez always said Ruffian was better and he did not hesitate to ride her in the match race as the movie claimed he did. Also, I know Leeroy Jolley and never did he ever stand in front of a group reporters "bragging" about Foolish Pleasure and how superior he was to Ruffian. he always gave Ruffian respect as a two year old.
I do not know any of the inside information but I knew liberties were taken..... the dvd release should/will have a disclaimer on it due to the lawsuit that was settled.... I did not enjoy how the actor portrayed Nack...all that summer, whenever I thought of Ruffian, I cried. It was so tragic. A few days after her demise I believe it was ABC and Jim McKay from the Wide World Of Sports spoke about Ruffian, saying why we cared, why she mattered.
foolish Pleasure wss a very good horse, but he wasn't even the best 3 year old male tha year, Wajima was. ruffian was better no doubt.
However, i think they went too far to make the foolish pleasure side look like villains. As i stated, Leroy Jolley was somewhat soft spoken and never would have "bragged" about any of his horses the way he was portrayed especially a 2 year old
They wanted to make it into one of those main stream movies, so they took the route to sorta teach a lesson that good always prevails. *Sigh* I think they could have done much better at the movie, certainly could have gotten better actors. And better horses also.

Nice touch putting real footage of Ruffian on the credits. People needed to see the real Ruffian, the greatness just flows across the screen!
