This sheikh is saying according to majority of the scholars it is best to recite the du'aa of istikhaarah after saying salaam, but i read on islamQA that Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in al-Fataawa al-Kubra: Part 2, p. 265 Question concerning Du’aa’ al-Istikhaarah: should this du’aa’ be recited during salaah (prayer) or after saying the salaam? ......
@naarakyuu The answer is that it is permissible to recite the du’aa’ of istikhaarah before or after the salaam, whether you are praying salaat al-istikhaarah or another prayer. Reciting du’aa’ before the salaam is preferable, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite a lot of du’aa’ before the salaam, and the worshipper before saying the salaam still in a state of prayer, so it is better to recite the du’aa’ then.
@naarakyuu I'd say after, because during the dua of the istikhara, you're supposed to mention your need. Which you obviously can't do in your prayer or else your prayer will break (Assuming your need is to be addressed in a language other than Arabic). Also, I wouldn't trust IslamQA much, I've been told by a few scholars that it's not a very legit site, so it'd be best to stay away from.
@shafiqdms1 as salaamu 'alaykum. I was talking about the du'aa' of isthikhaarah. If one knows it in Arabic, then it should be ok to recite it in tashahud before salaam or even in other language because this is not an obligatory salaah. And why not trust IslamQA? they answer questions with references form Qur'aan, hadith and quotes from Imams, sheikhs. i.e. ibn Taymiyah, imam ahmad, abu haneefa etc and contemporary scholars such as ibn 'uthaymeen and al albani. May Allaah have mercy on them all.
@naarakyuu I'm not sure, I'd say ask a scholar, but to be on the safe side use the method that the sheikh talks about. I'm not going to go into the discussion because I'm obviously not a scholar, but from the Mufti I talked to, he said: Islamqa is a website that takes hadith out of context and presents them. For example, I saw a post from them saying that people can drink water while standing, while that's against the sunnah. You can only drink zamzam water standing. So he took it out of context
I can't express how much I appreciate Shaykh Abdul Nasir explaining this topic. I can only say may Allah reward him abundantly for this. Ameen!
