  • Great blast from the past.. Thanks! :)

  • I want to be Robert's Girl

    Vortex Sue, Blackpool

  • This was in the charts when I started school. Lovely song. I love you Susan.

  • Was born in 1962, but brought up on songs like this! Great song! Fond childhood memories!

  • Susan Maughan went on to become a saged and seasoned Stockard Channing who composed the songs for Grease.

  • @donships It is about Bobby Darin. The composer was Sandra Dee who was part of the composing song for Hey Paula. It was the flip side. Janis Joplin made fun of Bobby Darin in her songs...his English was so bad and she would not have had it any other way. Good English is SO BORING much like you I think

  • this is fucking shit i almost hung myself !

  • Born in the 90's and Listen to this music ! :L

  • @ThatStereoGirl ...and in stereo.

  • This one song is why Cilla Black never made it in the United States.

  • Since when has Christine Keller been late

  • Fish Inn Hackney.

  • to everyone sucks12345........typical uncouth yank.....stay home b----------d ! or go to hell!!........is it any wonder that with foulmouthed yanks like this, the rest of the respectable people in the world hate 'em?

  • whaddya mean the LATE Christine Keeler?! I used to see her regularly at The Markham Arms, Worlds End, Chelsea in the late 60s; when I say see her...

  • @1garence ....!!

  • at my youngest age of liking songs....this is it! and i have been attacked with bobs, robs, roberts......all my life....lmao

  • Bobby's Girl ,will always remind me of my dear niece ,whom we lost recently,age59

It was at her eighteenth party she sang it over and over again ,we will miss you so

    much karen ,god bless you,

    northjean1

  • I wish I was born in another era. I love how in the 40s-60s everyone was prim and proper, and it looks perfect. I wanna look that perfect! And I love the 80s. I wish there was a huge arcade where I live... *sigh* I think I'll stick to my plans and build a big mall with an arcade, a bowling alley, a roller rink, and a 50s-60s style salon and diner. If only I had enough money...

  • Nah, nobody can beat Marcie Blaine's version.

  • where is she now , would love to know i hope she is well and happy. i had a huge crush on her while at school in the early sixties.philmac123

  • I hear this and I think of Lily Savage and Thursday's Amateur night at the Vauxhall Tavern.

  • @theboyfromxtown Not what springs to mind for me, I guess you had to be there...

  • @SirBasildeBrush

You're right. It was a fun memory for me and this is why I love music

It reminds me of the good times.

  • @theboyfromxtown I can't say I do. No defo not. What Have I missed?

  • @theboyfromxtown Hi I remember those good days at the Vauxhall Tavern, plenty of trade, nice:)

  • @mikeyoungish

    Lucky you!

Can you remember the name of the song that Lily used to perform with Skippy?

  • I saw the late Christine Keeler dancing to this song with Enoch Powell at a club in Brixton

  • @BrokenneckYgor !!!! Can't imagine it...

  • @BrokenneckYgor Chrisitne Keel's not dead.Is she?

  • @dramaticguy I am glad to make a correction. Miss Keeler is alive.

  • @BrokenneckYgor Christine Keeler not dead she's alive & 69, her career as a call might be dead though lol

  • @BrokenneckYgor Now that is funny!!

  • @BrokenneckYgor I wonder if she knows she is 'late'?

  • @Breatherable Yeah, she might be preggers

  • @BrokenneckYgor now i would pay good money to have seen that

  • @BrokenneckYgor My understanding is that Christine is still alive and well. My mind boggles at the thought of Enoch dancing with her in Brixton. As I was not there I cannot affirm.

  • @frankiehiyo..... A real cutie Susan was, I saw her three times at the London Palladium with Tony Hancock and Frank Ifield among others in the Sixties. It was typical Palladium melange of extravaganzza, comedies, games, pops and acrobats - absolutely fascinating. Please bring back the 50s and 60s.

  • Do you suppose Lorna is JENNA-SIZED!

    I wanna be JENNA-SIZED.

  • I wanna be bobbys girl too lol.

  • Tommy Cooper and Susan -- priceless

  • Tommy Cooper!!!!!! :)

  • i won a competion singing this song, thanku susan

  • Wow!! What a memory. Thanks! So much fun. My cousin Lydia used to play all these songs. This is when a singer truly sang. None of that high tech stuff to make them sound good.

  • I AM ALSO A MAUGHAN :)

being awesome must run in our genes.

  • Don't like this. It's meant to be a plaintive cry by a teen, not some big-voiced woman. The original is much better.

  • Heard a trillion times but just learned from you who sang it. *shame*

  • i love this song thank you for posting

  • 2 women don't consider being Bobby's girl the most important thing to them.

  • the original is way better. this chick's just riding on her pretty face. caseinpoint, if a cover is your "big hit:" you suck.

  • @horsesflu This is a lovely version. The original can never always be the best. Most covers attempt to improve on the original and if they often fail then so what, at least they attempted it. They should not be derided as just covers. If a cover was your one big hit you should be applauded as improving on the original..

  • @horsesflu Believe me, she was not "just riding on her pretty face".

I have seen her singing this live in a dance hall, with just the mike and amplifiers of some local group. She was as good as the recording. Now that's talent. She did have other hit records. How many further hits did the original singer of this record have? If a singer can cover a number hit, and take that version to the top then they must be good. I also like the original.

  • I love this old song. It's great.

  • GOD what a babe

  • Beautiful voice, but too old for Bobby. Wish she had locked up with Frank Sinatra.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. My father used to sing this to me when I was a child and I have just played it for him and he sang along with it.

  • I remember standing at the top of the stairs at the scala ballroom in Runcorn Cheshire.UK. Susan was with her minder/agent? and walked past me on her way to the dressing room. Our eyes met and she gave me a big smile. I never forgot that. I was 16 years old she was maybe a couple of years older. She had just hit the charts with this song and sang it that night.. She sounded as good singing live as on the record. Let me tell you, the photos don't lie, she was absolutley gorgeous looking .

  • @frankiehiyo Thanks, a nice story. Certainly a cutie,

  • @frankiehiyo When women were women and dressed like women. The best days are long gone. Sadly never to return.

  • @mrhomerbojangles Also, when men where men and dressed like women ;-) Some things never change.

  • @frankiehiyo Went to have a look at the Scala last week, Its so sad left to rot by Moronic types who want to build more F******g Apartments!

  • @drachir6 Yes, it is so sad. I had a look at some photos on the web. ( type in Scala Runcorn)

As you probably know it ended up as a Bingo hall. When that failed it was as you say " left to rot" There where some famous people played there in the Merseybeat days, including the Beatles in their leather gear.

Unfortunatly, this is the story for most of these types of venues after the Rock "n" Roll to Pop days. I guess people from other Countries would recognise the same scenario.

  • @frankiehiyo

things gone too the Dogs there on in lol

  • @bubs101able Don't listen to it then its that simple

  • I bought this record in the 1960's

  • :) xx

  • A feminist for sure!

  • women were so much more womanly in those days were they not?

  • @andrewlewis963 We were/are more feminine because the GOVERNMENT WOMEN"S MOVEMENT had not yet been invented...so you saw lovely ladies like Connie Francis, ANNETTE, Sandra Dee, Dionne Warwick, Patti Page, Leslie Gore, etc....We were PROUD of being FEMININE...The so-called "Feminists" are actually MASCULINISTS...I SO AGREE WITH YOU!!! ~ PROUD TO BE A BOOMER!

  • @Taharah007 Well, thank you for the comment.

  • @Taharah007 so right you are...

  • @andrewlewis963 Yeah, but times were sexist too... the only thing keeping me from a time machine.

  • Fantastic! My late sister used to sing this for me. Thanks to you and to Annie who shared. ☺♥

  • @weeyin1155 Pleased to bring the good memories back.

  • @weeyin1155 sister's are irreplaceable .. I send you good thoughts and a hug : )

  • I was watching television with my mom and this song came on, and my mom told me she'd kill me if MY greatest ambitiion in life was to be someone's girl. lol :)

  • put this on my facebook as she is a Northeast of England lass. Cheryl Cole another Northeast of England lass looks ever so similar to some of Susans pictures

  • @tonyrob1945 Actually, now that you've mentioned it they do have a similar look...

  • @SirBasildeBrush Both good looking lasses

  • When I listen to this I'm back in Ravensthorpe youth club as an eleven year old being embarrassed by girls dancing around, pointing at me and singing " I wanna be Georgies girl"

    Fabulous

  • what memories...love boby in school not knowing he had a crush on me....and guess what??? found my Bobby after 44 years...Sweeeeet

Very nice memories. Thank you for posting. Big Hugs. Sonja

  • @Banderuola66 A song with a connection to the real world!

  • @Banderuola66 There were a lot of Bobby's back in the day;-)......they hardly were ever called Bob. I think now parents will call there child Robert over Bobby and Bob??.....thanks in advance

  • Beautiful and mature voice, like Vickie Carr's. But, Bobby's "Girl"?

  • When i was young. I dated a guy named Bobby. It brings back memories. Thank you for posting

  • @jennie6940 Pleased to bring the memories back.

  • Blackpool 1963 great memories

  • The ultimate no life- no self esteem song. What ...what will I do without Bobby? Even though he's not interested me....I'll just fantasize and pray...oh boy. What a pathetic song...weird, too. It's up there with that other weirdo.."Single Girl". Yikes.

  • i think i heard somewhere ,she was a cousin of Mark Bolan (T REX)

  • I remember this single was always just a little bit louder than all the other songs around at the time, always seemed loudest on the jukebox, record player etc, must have been the phillips record label.

she was in the film version of billy liar with non other than rodney bewes

  • my mum use to sing this song to my older brother when he was young. he hated it! but she always sang it to him!

  • @SammieKittyGirl Good choice by your mum.

  • @SirBasildeBrush my mum is now no longer with us, and my older brother is called robert so we call him bobby but he hated this song. but i love it. all i do sometimes is change bobby for sabbie and i have my partnersd name

  • crap

  • iLove this song hehe x

  • This is soooo Taha's song. I love you all taku whanau.

  • golden oldie! this song is part of most peoples lives, thanx for postin & a big up for susie singin it in the first place!

  • In the early 80's I went to see Susan at the Walthamstow Assembly Hall in East London. Amazingly she was only a support act (to Gerry & the Pacemakers). After the show I queued to meet her and buy her latest LP which she signed(I still have it). I told her that I had only come to see her and that I had all her old singles from the 60's.She seemed genuinely pleased and was very charming - it's a wonderful memory. Susan has been my favourite female singer since first seeing her on TV in 1962.

  • Thanks for the interesting comment, now I'm jealous.

  • I love this Oldie. Thank you for posting.

    Hugs. Sonja

  • Thanks, a real classic oldie in the UK.

  • mest kända versionen är väl egentligen marcie blaines version men denna är verkligen inte sämre

  • i love thing son :P

  • WOW ! At 1:40 it's Dave Clark !!!

  • this was MY song at the age of 6. oh and yes I'm a robert!

  • iN THE 60'S ONE OF OUR GANG CALLED PAULINE HAD A BROTHER CALLED BOBBY WHO SADLY DIED,ARE YOU STILL OUT THERE PAULINE FROM TOTING?

  • i hated being called bobby all the girls chaced me and sang this song its a good song

  • Thanks for this brilliant share Jim - Wonderful song !

  • Agree with this - the same fate befell Helen Shapiro. Their music only predates the Beatles' by a year or so, but in terms of sound and attitude, is light years removed. Susan and Helen were unfortunate that the UK underwent such a seismic change just when they were both at the zenith of their powers.

Glad it's still around to enjoy, though - thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for the interesting comment.

  • What a hot brunette, I don't know why she wasn't more famous, her looks alone are jaw dropping, if she was 20 yrs old today, she would have no problem becoming famous.

  • Quite a cutie.

  • Yeah, what ever happened to her? I think she was probably blown out of the water by Suzanne Pleshette and Marlo Thomas, who were able to pull enough strings to get big movie and TV billing. It doesn't hurt that "That Girl" was the daughter of Big Daddy Danny Thomas. The comp may have been just too stiff for other gorgeous brunettes in the field at that time

  • @undergroundbasement throught my child hood and teenage years they all sang it to me 100 girle chaseing around the school yard now i listen to that song now i know why im gay my name is robert 30 years later there still doing it

  • @pinnell45 what do you wanna be gay for, with all them birds chasing after you, what a waste ,it's enough to keep any man straight?.

  • The other side of this is good too. "Come a Little Closer" - she sings the lyrics as though I'm the only one listening.....!*!?*!?

  • One of the tabloids reported that when this song was a hit, a load of builders on a site were all heard singing along to this song, Wanting to be Bobby's Girl!

  • This version is cool, but Marcie Owns this song. period.

  • Comment removed

  • ......she wishes!

  • WOW SUSAN WAS A HOTTIE ,WITH A VOICE

  • Dang I love her voice. Except Marcie Blane sounds more like a goofy, wistful kid, matches the lyrics. Maughan sounds grown up, beyond these lyrics.

  • The Marcie Blane version is only a recent discovery for me, so I expect it to sound the way Maughan sings it.

  • I agree - Marcie fits this song!

  • Good song

  • Thank you very much bunnieee.

  • Super J adore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just bought this LP. Great song. Like the American version also since that is what I grew up with.

  • Nice pic of her with the late great Tommy Cooper!

  • Very , Very , Beautiful , her being English all the more better. I wonder how well she held on to her looks as she aged.

  • Yes, she was pretty - can't say what she looks like now. I think she still performs on the club circuit.

  • i am 17, when i was 6 my dad taught me this song, i used to get up at karaoke and sing my little heart out to this.

  • A good memory.

  • I also like the Marcie Blane's version better.

I like the begining better with the male background singers singing Your Not a Kid Anymore instead of the speeded up intro music that this one has. Blane also had a younger sounding voice which is more fitting to the lyrics.

  • Great to find this. Susan is actually my second cousin

  • I'm impressed! I've got a few by Ms Maughan posted.

  • no shes not.

    shes mine

  • I'm Spartacus.

  • Why is that??

  • Always loved this version of bobby's girl. I actually had this 45 wish I knew where it was now

  • Well done Sir B !! 5***** .

  • Many thanks.

  • OMG I have searched for this ... thank you so much for posting, love it, takes me back to so many great memories!

  • Pleased to help out!

  • Far better than Marcie Blaine's version. This is a much more matuer performance and musical arrangement.

    Well done SBdeB---5*****

  • @BelleVue1969 I agree 110%

  • I'd never heard of Marcie Blaine or Susan Maugham and found this song just browsing. I prefer the arrangement of the Maugham version. The other arrangement sounds quite boring in comparison.

  • cracking song love it can't beat the oldies

  • Marcie was the original singer of this song and it is SO much better! Marcie didn't need background reverb to improve the sound of her voice. Marcie made it a hit! Way to go Marcie!!!

  • then why yoy listening to this version then you tosser?

  • Damn, It's just an opinion. I'm sure they were curious to see what another version sounded like. Gosh, Lighten up.

  • Love this song, have it on Vynil record (you know, big black disc)

    5 stared this

  • @HighTreason610 This was one of the very first records I bought when I was little. Still have it tucked away among my 7" vinyls.

  • Susan's version of this song is much more captivating than any other I have heard. It is syncopated and reflects a more difficult style as opposed to what Martywt4 likes. It aids in a stronger quality song that only her voice can duplicate. Thanks for getting this back on the Youtube I have missed this so much!

  • Hurrah for Susan! Good satisfying Thump-Thump on the chorus chord changes. Was never fond of the spoken bit in Marcie Blane's original.
