  • what brush cleanser do you use ???

  • seeing this too late :(((((((((((((, destroyed 10 mac brushes soaking them overnight with regular shampoo not only did the hairs remove from the stick but the stick also split . thanks for doing this

  • The spray have alcohol?

  • A really great alternative for people on a budget, Dawn antibacterial(Green kind) dish soap and olive oil. Simply mix the 2. 1 part olive oil to 2 parts Soap. Only the one kind of dish soap has the antibacterial use as well as it being gentle on the brushes and the oil conditions them.

  • "Hey Everyone, Alright so...."

  • thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • 42 people use sponges

  • @LillyWasHere71 Haha, I love how that's an insult.

  • @ChorusinCrystal not really...i dont think...

  • This was so useful, simple and to-the-point! Thank you so much :D

  • what race are you? if you dont mind me asking? lol

  • can you use baby shampoo on your face to remove makeup?

  • what size are your gauges???

  • do you work in MAC store in arlington texas???

  • this has helped me so much because i cleaned my brushes the wrong way a long time ago and they got ruined :[

  • I use Dettol hand wash because it's anitbacterial and olive oil to make the bristles soft:) it really works a little of each is all you need!!

  • This will be great to know when I get a new brush set ^^ Your videos are so great (:

  • love it.recently got my own brush set so i was delighted to see someone taking time to show how to clean them in like details:)

  • Haha, my moms a makeup artist and she taught me how to clean my brushes. But this was actually more helpful than my mom, and she also works for M.A.C ! haha :)

  • I use baby wipes or Costco's makeup removing facial wipes to do a "quick clean." If I use any of the brushes to line my eyes, I wash them after each use with cleanser and water.

  • I use puppy shampoo, because most of my brushes are animal hair. Since the puppy shampoo is specially ph balanced for animal hair it works really well. Ive never used baby shampoo, but I'm sure the results are the same.

  • @Ladyofdeath777 where do you buy it?

  • @Gothgirl4370 Any pet store and I believe grocery stores(in the pet section) and some chain convenient stores also carry it.

  • Great, I love this information. Good advise. Bring more videos.

  • the baby shampoo worked great on my brushes they are softer than before.

  • I have a question about the moisturizing ingredients: What are they? Could you list some please?

  • another good way to clean your brushes that also cheap is olive oil and dish detergrent like joy it really gets the product out of the brushes

  • great advice!

  • what foundation are you using in this vid ?

  • can the baby shampoo replace the cleanser all the time? for the regular cleaning of the brush?

  • This was a very well made video - impressive. Thanks!

  • helpful, thanx :D

  • That was awesome...Thank you!!

  • Baby shampoo is 20X better then brush cleaner...

  • @BritneeSto baby shampoo isn't good because it doesn't have any essential oils that rehydrate your brush hairs

  • omg,I love your piercings

  • Would it be alright to use baby shampoo everytime you clean your brushes about every two uses?

  • all the brush clensers i find come in tiny tiny bottles

  • love that art

  • that sponge looks awesome :)

  • Baby shampoo works great, adn if you use contacts, it's a great idea. Because I use contacts, I have to wash my hands before putting them in, and put them in before I do makeup. Tons of baby shampoo works great for pretty much everything(:

  • haha. it's kinda bad my paint brushes are cleaner then my makeup brushes. :P

  • i do this too..lolx.

  • this is really helpful .. thank you alot

  • ur hot

  • How do you clean a jumbo fan brush? I really can't find any info on that. I' d appriciate any help on this matter.

  • You r great at what u do. I do so much enjoy your videos and the informative information you give.

  • thats soo cool I never knew there were reusable sponges ! all years wasting money on disposable ones -_____-', anyawys thanks for the tip :)

  • make sure tht if u soak ur brushes in water, the water is not so warm bcuz the warm water will help the glue tht keeps the brisles together be tacky.....n tht will destroy ur brush

  • I am a little late with my comment but I think your video's a great. Your super!!!

  • i love your piercing :)

  • very helpful thx u :)

  • ty for the response...lmao..i wear glasses and i still didnt see what you wrote...lol..smdh....:)

  • does anyone know if "deep cleaning" them each time is ok? would it mess up the bristles? i use baby shampoo the johnson and johnson no tears baby shampoo

  • you have such a nice smile.

specially the " crocked smile " its so cute :)

    love ur videos :)

  • what is the name of the cleaner you use for your brushes? and where do you get it from?

  • redddiamondz , On the side bar, he says he uses mac's brush cleanser.

    M.A.C.

  • Your teeth are so white. I love them.

  • you're awesome! Thanks!

  • i love this, its so useful! thanks!

  • sounds like hand soap.

  • hi josh..thx for accepting my video response..xoxo..muah

  • You said not to dry bushes bristle side up, how do you suggest we dry them?

  • He said to lay them on a clean paper towel or towel.

  • would it be harmful to your brushes to always use the baby shampoo method. I had purchased one kind of brush cleaner and i hated it and since then ive just been using baby shampoo. I clean my foundation brush every day and the rest of my brushes three times a week

  • you're really hot

  • 2:07 hahaha all that nastyness. hahaha love it.

  • i want ur teeth

  • you look so clean lmao

  • he does look really clean all the time now that you mention it... lol

  • I did mine today... an hour later... I have so many!!!

  • what fantastic hands!!!

they r so bright and healthy!

    =)

    this is very helpful! thanks

  • this video was posted on my birthday XD

    this is SOOO helpful. thanks

  • oh.lmao.i saw the 'white teeth' vid.

  • smh. this vid looks futuristic. esp that painting. u must have a mac :-). btw nice teeth. very observant.lol

  • Josh, I always use baby shampoo to clean my brushes every time i use them. So should i stop doing that and only use my mac cleaner instead?

and only do the baby shampoo once a month like you said? Thanks

  • thank you =)

  • you are soo goodlooking O_O lol :P

  • that sponge is cute.

i would love to get one

  • And dont blow on your brushes!!! Thanks for encouraging people to clean their brushes!

  • Thanks, just what I needed because I got a new foundation, I will probaly go a week because i use the same product on it.

  • Would you think it to be a bad idea to rinse my brushes after I spot clean them every other day? I use mac's brush cleanser and the bottle says to rinse, but I've noticed a lot of the guru's don't rinse.

    Thank you!

  • Thanks.

Your skin is glowing in this video :)

  • i use an antibacterial morturizing hand soap and a little bit of ausie 3 min miricle but im too poor to buy an actual brush cleaner

  • for the shampoo, Sephora made a special brush shampoo (with anti-bacterian agent) and I use a picture hanger to clip the brushes (head down to avoid water to be stocked on the base)

Petrilude, your foundation sponge is cute! ^^

  • I just randomly noticed that your teeth look very white...

  • the thing in his right ear looks like the thing i used to keep my dogs ears up when it was little

  • Thank you for this video, I made a huge investment in Mac brushes recently and this was very helpful thank you again!!!

  • you are so hot! ;-)

  • thanks for this,, vey helpful

  • can you do a video on using that reusable sponge, im not sure if you have one already but ill double check just in caseee :)

  • You seemed sad in this vid.

  • wow, we`re pretty much the same! [=

for deep cleaning, i use the same technique but with softsoap moiturizing hand soap in milk & protein honey [smells subtle but amazing imo]. very little product will give you a LOT of lather. i find my brushes are REALLY soft after using this.

i`ve used MAC`s cleaner twice, but imo i used more product than what i cleaned && that was including the 2:1 ratio with water. maybe its just me, but it didn`t seem to work as effectively.

  • I do the baby shampoo thing when I was my brushes overy other use. Is that too much? What should I be doing every other use? i will do the soak once a week.

  • Thank you for the tips! My only concern is on solely relying on baby shampoo for deep cleaning. It might not be enough as a cleaner agent.

  • thanks for this!

I'm a photographer that is probably going to start doing makeup for my own TF shoots. This is really helpful.

  • that little cut away 3:14 was fire! what program do u use to edit? if ya don't mind...

  • I totally didn't even think about soaking my brushes in brush cleaner and water...that would save so much time!!! BRILLIANT! THANKS!

  • i deep clean my brushes once a week. do u think that's too much? =/

  • LOL, the sponge is so cuute :]

  • thank you so much for all that you have shared with us. being new at doing drag i have gained more from you than some of my friends. thank you again...crystal

  • Whats up with the huge nail in your ear. lol

  • I just use a soap bar and a wash cloth

  • also try tea tree oil its great but dont use it straight it must be diluted with water

  • This was really good.

  • nah!

  • (nice blouse)

  • also, if you dont want to go out and buy the cleanser, you dont have baby shampoo, or its an emegency clean, if its a hair brush, or anything like that, you can take it in the shower with you, or outside of the shower, and use shampoo

    plain hair shampoo

since its usually real hair brushes, it does the job amazing

that way, every time you shower, you also have clean brushes :)

  • This was so helpful, thank you so much :)

  • great information! thank you!

  • do you happen to know how to remove stains from brushes?

  • you are so helpful, as always.

  • Hey ! great vid btw.

    i wanted to ask you,

i dont have the mac's cleanser and sometimes i use the hand sanitizer...

but after that, im using face-foam to moist them. should i swatch the face foam for baby shampoo or maybe stop with the hand sanitizer ?...

  • Thanks for the tips! thanks for your patience and time to do these and other videos!!

  • This is a very useful video (just as the rest!)

    Thank you for this! :)

  • Thanks for the cleaning techniques!! :D

  • Thanks for this my brushes are really bent.

  • you seem so sad . cheer up! :D

  • hey and wb neutral soap cus at mac one of the girls told me that i can clean them with some.. is that ok?

  • I really need to start doing this at least after every 2 uses. i do it like once a week. Yeah i know. I'm so bad!!

  • i use baby oil to spot clean. olive oil is always best to spot clean, but i think baby oil makes them smell really good and is cheaper. and ive heard from many reviewers that mac brush cleanser destroyed their brushes in the long run. they lost softness and became rough and felt like straw. i guess it strips the hairs natural oils or layers or something?

  • Another head-smacking "Why didn't I think of that?!" from Pertilude.

I've wasted soo much $ on the spot-cleaners when I could've just put my brush cleaner in a spray bottle =P...Thanks Josh!

  • me too i miss your hair !!! :s

  • i miss your old hair =[

  • how do you spot clean your 187 brush? , i use mine for foundation, and every time i use it it gets all gross, because of the liquid foundation, and i hate to clean it after every use with shampoo it takes so much time! is there any way i can clean it with the mac brush cleaner that is quicker?

  • ok so I am not hitting on your or anything....but, has anyone ever tell you how beautiful you are???!!! your face is gorgeous

  • i know im so bad... i wash my brushes once a month with deep cleaning... but no cleaning in between that time. meh i know not very hygenic though I'm only using it on myself.

  • PLEASE do a beautyblender tutorial or review or whatever. I'd love to see what your creative mind comes up with. I would like to use it with Makeup Forever HD foundation. Can you do something with those two?

  • I just use liquid soap or shampoo and it works fine. :)

  • awesome vid

  • eww ebay

  • probably one of the most informative brush cleansing ive seen. thanks

  • very helpfull =)

  • where can i find brush cleaner! ive been looking for some :( but i can never find any.. i know Mac has brush cleaner, but i live a couple hours from a Mac store

  • There will always be a mac counter in macys makeup department. that or go to sehpora, they usually have one as well, and if they dont one of their brands will have a make up cleaner. if they dont, theyre stupid. hope this helped!!

  • Welll im glad you commented back in hopes to help me, but i live in Canada and ive never seen a Sephora or a Macys store = (

  • If you live in or near Toronto, ON - there's a Sephora at the Eaton Center and at Yorkdale Mall. There's also a MAC store in both. The only MAC Pro store is at Queen St. & Peter downtown near Much Music.

I'm pretty sure Macy's is only in the States - and I'm pretty sure Sephora doesn't sell MAC here, although you can probably find a small counter at The Bay.

  • Sephora doesn't sell MAC anywhere.

  • Yeahh ive seen the mac stores in the Eaton Center and Yorkdale, but i live over 3 hours away from Toronto :( But i will deff go check the Bay out, Thank you for your help! =D

  • Try Shopper's Drug Mart since you're in Canada - Quo has a blueish green coloured brush cleaner that I use and it smells pretty good. I've used it a few times and it does the trick - although I've done the baby shampoo thing too - it suds up better.

  • Thank youuuuuu Soooo muchh!! =D

  • maybe have a look online?

  • ive tried that.. im pretty sure you need a credit card to buy online :( which i dont haveeee unfortionatly

  • thanks for sharing!!

  • Okay so this is the first time I've ever seen one of your videos before and I was just wondering...like, do you look like this, ALL the time? I by that I mean: do you always look insanley sexy? Like Im at 1:30 seconds and I havnt really heard a word youve said because I've just been staring at your mouth and that amazing rod going thru your ear. Im sorry but you sir, are verrry good looking :) Like, Im sure you dont ALWAYS look this good...or do you because if you do...shoot son!

  • i deep clean every week.

or even sometimes twice a week.

    is that bad?

  • i haven't cleaned mine for like 4 months...maybe ill do it tomorrow

  • hahaha me too

  • =/ oops- I've been spraying rubbing alcohol on my brush & swiping it on a Bounty paper between uses when I can't wash them..is that bad ?

  • no, those brush cleansing spray is mainly made up of alcohol. the only difference is that they mix it with a bit of cleansing agents thats why those sprays are better at removing some of the makeup then alcohol alone, but if it works for you its perfectly fine.

how do i know? my uncle use to work @ one of those manufacturing plants.

  • wow thats alot of earings and stuff

  • i use dove soap to clean my brushes. i lay my brushes flat on a towel or paper towel!! i rise with lukewarm water. i like the idea of cleaning with the baby shampoo!! thanks for all the tips for cleaning my brushes!!

  • actually conditioner is completely unnecessary bc its dead hair & the conditioner will only cause build up.

  • it is nessacary;

the brush will get dried out with just shampoo.

  • lol, thats not true.

the brushes have dead hair, condition does nothing to it except build up gunk! conditioner is meant for people with dry hair or damaged hair who NEED the moisture & their roots are still "alive"

shampoo has cleansing agents and removes build up not dry out hair.

  • cosmetic: not just for the sake of being a conditioner, but something to help combat the alcohol.

the ends of your head are dead as well, the only living part is the root. if you were to use something with a strong alcohol content on the ends they would dry out since they're dead. so using something with a smidgen of conditioning properties with the alcohol helps.

  • I really need to clean my brushes,,and to tell you the turth I didnt know u HAD to I just did it to get the make up out so iw asnt mixing colors..kinda gross XD

  • I LOVE YOUR VIDs!

  • nice earings

  • very very helpful! thank you!

the guy at the mac counter only told me how to deep clean. I never knew about spot cleaner or anything!

  • I had never heard of soaking the brushes! That is so much easier than washing them every week! thanks a lot! =)

  • I deep cleansed my brushes last week (the same way you did it) and it looked like I was mixing together a liquid foundation concoction. I think it's interesting, but disgusting, thinking about all the germs.

  • I hate cleaning my brushes. Such a pain in the ass.

When I clean mine tho, I use shampoo to clean them. Lol I know thats probably not good for them but hey it's all I have atm.

But what could I use to clean my brushes that I can get from a drugstore? I would get the MAC brush cleaner but its costs quite a bit of money and plus there isnt a MAC store very close to me.

  • that's all I do and that's all I know - great closing line!

  • you are so good looking and hot

  • thank you soo much for putting this up! i looked for videos like this, but yours was defenitly the most helpful!

  • When i spot clean my brushes like you do,i use a makeup wipe ...It works well:)

  • This is the first time I've heard to dry your brushes with the tips up. Most people say to let your brushes drip dry on the side of the table or something because you don't want water to seep into the glue and metal as it will rust and make your brushes fall apart.

  • alliin: i never said let them dry with the tips up.

    watch again/re-read the annotations.

  • Thanks...apparently I had been deep cleaning my brushes too much...after EVERY use!!! Thinking that was the right way to do it. Now I know how to spot clean!! Thanks...maybe they will last longer now. lol.

  • some times i clean my brushes w the beauty blender cleanser...i love the smell :)

  • damnn yurr really hot.

    too bad yur gay... :'[

  • also onlu use cold water as the glue that holds the bristles in can deteriorate if you always use hot or warm water. also dry flat

  • he sounds like obama a little bit,

but only when he says "aannnnddddd..", and especially: "isssssssss..."

  • i deep clean my brushes almost once a week...does that harm your brushes? or should i try to spot clean them?

    thanks

  • I use Bare Escentuals "well-cared for" brush conditioning shampoo. I do it about once a month...and its amazing. It is shampoo MADE for this exact thing =)

  • Josh, You are just so beautiful! You look so clean and pure, but with an edge haha. Love you and your vids!
