  • JC, you said "she was giving that price - she wasn't thinking about it. She knew how much it was. So, I think that this was the same price that a Thai person would get"

Sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong. The only way you're going to know what Thais' pay is to research what Thais' pay. Sellers' know we farang come from countries where haggling is not as developed and practiced as much as it is in Thailand, plus our habit of comparing the price to what we would pay for the same item back home

  • @OzDelphi Up to you to believe what you want. After living here for more than ten years coupled with working with thousands of people I have developed a bit of sensory acuity to see when somebody has to go inside to process information and create something new. Couple that with the fact that, at this location I was probably the only Farang she has seen this year and I feel it was the same price.

  • @OzDelphi If I had been really interested than I also would have haggled but that just upsets Thais if you don't end up buying the item so I didn't want that outcome. I think you are assuming ALL Thais have Farang interaction and institute two tiered pricing. This just isn't so. 95% of the time I get the same price as Thais. I test this a lot either listening to what Thais are being charged or by sending in a Thai first without me, and then I will come back and ask the price later.

  • @retirecheapjc, of course it would be unreasonable to haggle and not buy. But how do you know that the Thai wouldn't haggle a better price?

  • this was great thanks for the info. I'm serious considering this, riding the scooter was the best part of my last trip to chang mai

  • Hi JC

There is a Sunday Market that sales scooters a lot cheap then that also sales cars. But cars in Thailand cars hold they value because it’s so cheap to fix. The market is next to Ruam Choke Market
