  • What a POWERHOUSE! GO DONNA!

  • I am 44 years old and I have loved Donna Summer AND Pat Benatar since 1979! I am disappointed that neither of them have made it into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame! I was happy to see Blondie make it a few years back though.

  • I'M GLAD DISCO DIED!!!!!

  • Disco is NOT rock but who cares. Never shook my ass to Hot Stuff. Pat Benatar is the rock chick and Donna Summer is Disco; ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ROCK ABOUT HER MUSIC BUT TRY TO TWIST IT SO IT IS. R&R HALL OF FAME IS A POSER PILE OF SHIT TO NOMINATE DONNA SUMMER/MADONNA BEFORE PAT FUCKING BENATAR AND JOAN FUCKING JET..FUCK YOU RR HALL OF FAME AND GAY MAFIA BASTARDS THAT TOOK IT OVER.

  • @innamorata40 What a idiot you are ! Here is one for your information... when accepting the grammy in 1981 for Best Rock Female, Pat Benatar said " how could I be the best female rock singer when Linda Ronstadt is still alive". They were both nominated that year.

  • WOAW AWSOME LIVE SHOW SHE MADE AT THAT TIME DONNA IS THE GREATHEST

  • que belleza... dios mio .. lo mejores tiempo el pop rock

  • We forgot about Suzie Quatro when listing female rockers from the 70's.

  • Donna Summer ranks #6 of female singers selling 178 million records worldwide. Not bad from a singer that hasn't made a full length album from 1992-2007. Donna's music will be forever classic.

  • Well, Love to Love Baby, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, She works hard for the Money, Last Dance, Dim all the Lights, have all been used in commericals (and or for commerical endorsements). The song Take Me from her 1977 Album, was used as the opening for 8 years for the Wide World of Sports.

  • I thought I had heard it all, but this one takes the cake! Real female rock and roll singers are white, to the idiot that put that comment up, u obviously know nothing of were rock and roll music comes from! even from your persecptive, because you would call it rock. You have spent alot of time on this post being completely negative and posting the most misguided and uniformed comments, accusing other of not knowing what they are talking about. Why don't u go to a Pat Benatar post and stay there

  • Donna Summer is the absolute best!!!!!

  • @DEEDUBB1979 She absolutely is, her and Linda Ronstadt are so versitile and have done just about everything in music, Donna is a camelion, which is why she is so loved and respected. Dick Clark said it best " the most under-appreciate female vocalist ever", but certainly not by her peers ! She is so deserving of this honour !

  • Donna was first artist to recieve the grammy for Rock female, and this song is #67 on Billboard list of all time great songs and #104 in the list of Rolling Stone top 500 great songs. I think her being inducted is very deserving !

  • On her first North American Album "Love to Love to You Baby", the last track is Panadora's Box which is a rock song, her roots are in rock, although she gain recognition as a pop singer.

  • Donna has been nominated 4 times for a grammy in the Female Rock category, winning for hot stuff from Bad Girls 79 of course. She was nominated for Cold Love from the Wanaderer 80, and Protection from Summer 82 .

  • @innamorata40 Donna was not nominated in the 70's but in the 80's, and there were always plenty of female rock singer... just because the Grammy didn't nominated them. Secondly Donna is a singer... who started in the Rock band Crow...sang rock her whole, she may have gain world wide attention as a pop singer.

  • @innamorata40 You haven't a clue of what you are talking about ! Maggie Bell, Jean Millington and her sister June, ever heard of Fanny or Birtha; Kim Fowley, Joan Jett, Lita Forde the runaways. Joyce Kenndey, Grace Slick, Patti Smith, Stevie Nicks. Holly Woods and Sharon Alton of Toronto. I am sure you have heard of Linda Ronstadt .. all 70's Female rockers, of course Linda being the versitile one, recording pop and country and rock in the 70's.

  • @innamorata40 Light pop rock ?? I have heard it all..now. Listen know it all ... have you ever been to any of these ladies concerts ??? First Ann and Pat were the only 70's rock female, now I mention the rockers and her you are minalizing and catergorizing to suit yourself, as some self professed expert !! Pat who started out in opera... and move to what is really pop rock as you would have it at the time! Talk about what people said about her at the time in comparison to rock music in the 70's

  • continued..she was a joke ... as I recall.. I liked her, but you didn't hear her being played at any parties.. So talk about idiots smashing disco records.. just remember Pat wasn't considered rock, just because the grammies nominated her. And she was pop rock at best, even your way.. or catergorizing !! But back to the 70's all the ladies I mentioned were 70's rock singer including Melanie Safka.. who I forgot..

  • continued... with Love Will always find You, Journey to the Centre of your Heart, Walk Away, Hot Stuf ... etc. She was hot, and her music was progressive and forward (not that cheesy disco that others put out). When the disco era was over 75-80, she continued on without a clich. She got her start in the Rock Band Crow, and went on to musical theatre before teaming with G.M. & P.B. to create there music.

  • @dog1clear - That is a load of crap, only the loosers that were trying to be too cool knocked disco. I listen to mostly rock when I was growing up in the 70's, too. Stones , ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Lighthouse etc..Later the Cars, Headpins,Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers etc. Donna was the one artist that everyone listen to, and when Bad Girls hit, I remember be at many parties were the rockers were quite happy...

  • @innamorata40 You get real ... as I said only the insecure loosers of the day were smashing disco records, and as stated several times before. Donna and P.B. & G.M created the disco sound and wave, but by Last Dance was the end of disco for donna ... all of her albums after live and more were funk, soul, pop and pop rock, only idiot you don't know her work, or don't know music at all would refer to her as disco... did we call Madonna and Janet Jackson disco ???? Just a sign of the times

  • @dog1clear....im sorry you feel that way. Donna Summer has sold over 178 million records worldwide and she ranks #6 of female artists in record sales worldwide. There were artists who were inducted in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that didn't sing rock & roll for example Aretha Franklin. She is a Soul/ R&B legend who never sang a rock based song ever. Donna paid her dues. If it wasn't for her there would not be dance music. Go on youtube and look up the songs Nightlife and Lookin Up from Donna.

  • @innamorata40 The nerve of you thinking that your information is correct and others is wrong ! At last count Donna has sold a 186 million and counting and that was on the tv news. So I guess you are correct and everyone else is wrong. Go educate yourself, and Donna isn't Rock why don't you ask Ann Wilson if Donna is rock or not !

  • benetar before summers - pop hall of fame summers first , rock hall of fame , benetar should be in

  • I think Rush is Already in.

  • Donna Summer was such an innovator, combining rock, and electronic, and dance. Her music was always more rock based, and originally they labled her Queen of Sex Rock prior to the disco label. As for this song, who can name another female artist that lamented so straight forwardly about getting laid....this girl was gonna get some THAT night even if she had to dial 1000 numbers. LOL Love it!

  • this place a disgrace wheres rush should of been there 20 years ago

  • Definitly a voice for any decade! No other entertainer can come close to the awsome voice of Donna Summer.

  • @npo64 alisson krause

  • she is absolutely fabulous!!

  • Donna better sang that song. GREAT CLASSIC PRFORMANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Realperformances. Not depending on music video to sell the artist. Donna is simply awesome.

  • Last year Donna should have got voted into 'The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame''. Not Madonna. Donna was a trailblazer in dance music. Madonna just copied everyone' style and culture and made money from it. She is not a great singer AT ALL. This performance and song Hot Stuff allowed Donna to win the grammy for 'Best Female Rock Performance" in 1980. Madonna can NEVER sound like Donna even on her bad day. OOOOPS Donna has no bad days singing. Donna is just fierce.

  • @dog1clear. As i noted 7 months ago Donna recieved a Grammy award for Best Rock Performance Female in 1980. She made 2 more rock based albums in 1980 and 1981. Donna can sing pretty much any style of music and pull it off. A true vocal talent.

  • @innamorata40 Melissa Etheridge has been nominated the most times in the Female rock category not Pat Benatar, and Sherly Crow and Tina Turner also have won 4 times.

  • @innamorata40 Sorry but Pat has 8 nominations in the Female rock catergory, Melissa has 9, Tina, Sherly and Bonnie Ratt all have 7. The catergory which no longer exist was handed out for 1980 - 2004, with a few years being skipped. Oh and Madonna ...LOL ... She could sing a rock song if her life depending on it, and as stated again Donna roots are in rock... so drop off !!!

  • I meant to type " couldn't" not could....

  • @innamorata40 Yes people details, Donna was nominated because their were no, female rockers and won (1980) because she was most popular at the time , but Pop Rock Pat who won 81-84, beat the like of LuLu, Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, Yoko Ono, Linda Ronstadt (light pop rock) and Donna (disco queen). The royalty of rock when she won her 4, and it wasn't because she was popular at the time, she just didn't have hit to speak of.... Can't have it both ways! Pat's wins are not more legit than Donna's !

  • donna summer rules!better then that pink floyd crap! where are they by the way

  • @innamorata40 Yeah ok, that's why we hear Madonna's music on TV commericals because they are so imbedded into the fabric of society.... they are all so memorable.. classic... now who is 18 or something...???

  • @innamorata40 Hardly.. for someone under the age of 35 perhaps, but it would seem to me that their would be more people in the world over that age ! Donna and her music has a broader appeal .. let alone inmpact, and has and will live on.. where as Madonna music will be forgotten... Madonna herself will be remember, but her music ... won't stand up like Donna's...

  • Donna you are always a hot stuff that makes as feel still young as at 1976

  • ima black guy who loves some Pat Benetar ,and who loves some Donna Summer, i think they both should have been inducted. both are more than just rock or disco ,both of them actually studied opera earlier in their careers.

  • I wonder how many of the commentators here have ever studied the history of American music and neglect to see that the core of most "American" music--including hard rock & metal flow from gospel, jazz, r&b and soul fusions? I guess like most Americans, we're content to stay ignorant and uneducated--Rock on Donna!

  • forget disco...summer has more talent than all those simpson and spears bimboes

  • Pat is long overdue! But Donna was a disco/ R&B singer in the mid 70's. but then went on to be a pop superstar in 78/79. Then revisited her early passion for Rock & Roll between 80 & 83 and beyond. Donna is a very versital singer and that award nom happened during her short lived Rock years.

  • Donna rocks!!!

  • When we talk about Disco music, the only woman that comes in my mind and the other's people mind is NO DOUBT Donna Summer.

    Donna Forever!!!

  • good for her, she can be the first inductee in the disco hall of fame.....right?

  • Maybe because the original DNA of Rock & Roll was spun off from R&B and Rock was brought to the forefront by Black musicians and popularize by Elvis.

  • Too bad it's not like that anymore.

The blacks can keep their rap and hip-hop and the whites will keep our rock and roll. Def Leppard for me!

    And no, I'm not racist.

  • Preach!

  • Why is it that every video I click on it says sorry, this video is no longer available... even my own. What the hell? I really wanted to see this clip.

  • It should be working...check again?

  • now it is.... but that happens all the time I think there is something going on with youtube. I've heard the same thing from many others. Now that I can see it, thanks 4 the great clip =)

  • 60 and the voice is still there..

  • Nice one!! Shes soooo sassy!

  • is she doing tours?

  • Yes, through the Fall anyway.

  • I remember vividly watching this special... "Hot Stuff" remains a true indication of what was to happen musically in the 80's. Five years after recording this album, M.J. and Prince made careers out of the same style of dance/rock. Interesting how when many rock acts of the time were incorporating disco into their music. She had the foresight to rock harder than any of them... witness "Miss You" by The Rolling Stones on any rock station. The single version of this is surely more deserving.

  • I remember this! ABC got such huge ratings there was talk of Donna getting her own show.

    Amazing performer!

  • Beautiful Donna that i never seen like that before, when i was young, since France.

I discover a Donna Summer very "energetic" with all the video on youtube (thanks Youtube !).

I loved her songs, but now i very love her two.

  • Hi my name is Cheralyne Muhammad you all have of the most intersting material and content in your videos about Black Women. I have a show called THE VALUE OF THE FEMALE please view my youtube video for details.

  • The greatest quality of this video I've seen so far as well. Thanks for posting. Donna, we love you!

  • Anyone know if you can get the track "The Virgin Mary" on any cd at all. It used to be on the original UK album release of "Love To Love You Baby", but when they released the CD version here a few years ago, it was removed. My mum and I were really dissapointed, being such avid fans!

  • Yes, that is a Rush indeed, and it is the best audio of any clip from this show. Hot Stuff remains a concert must to this day, and this version from her 1980 TV special takes us back to when Donna ruled all the charts. This is also

all the proof you need to know why she HAS to be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall fo Fame.

    Ken

  • @krapug1 Where I don't see Getty Lee any where ?

  • That was a rush!! Damn what an exciting performer!!!!!!!! I was there that night(1980) and this is the cleaest version iv'e seen yet Thanks!

  • So you don't think Donna is hot stuff as a rock singer, huh? Then how's about some 'cold love' or 'nightlife'? So now you 'running for cover'...mmm, thought so.

  • Bruce Springsteen believe in Donna Summer, wrote a song for her (but recorded it for himself and had a hit with it), but he wrote her another song - Protection - and you can hear him singing on it in the background and believe he played the guitar in that song too.... Donna ROCKS! Great legs too!

  • Amazes me how she originally wrote Dim All The Lights for Rod Stewart, always wondered what his version would've sounded like.

  • actually i can hear him singing that song in a pop/disco/folksy way of his. i think it woulda been quite a hit for him. i almost wish she had given him the song because i just hate that song. not because i think it's bad but because it's always used by the media as her signature song to pigeonhole her as the "queen of disco" when her true fans know she was soooo much more than just disco
