  • That's a first!!

A tube not stopping at Harrow-on-the-Hill?

Whilst I may be from Cumbria, whenever I come to the capital, usually to run its marathon, I get day travelcards to ride the tubes, and the Met line is one of my faves.

Every tube I've been on, including the Amersham fasts, ALWAYS stop at Harrow, so if there is one train a day that for some reason doesn't, I would like to know about it, so next time I'm down, may well get the opportunity to go non-stop Finchley Road to Moor Park?

  • it would be nice if we could still bo that but that service was cut because people complained that they couldnt go to chesham from harrow, now, all LU trains stop at harrow. The 2 through trains still run 2 and from chesham though

  • This must have been some kind of experimental timetabling for the fast Chesham service - all the 'fast' trains stopped at HotH, certainly in the 70s and 80s. These Metropolitan A60 trains and the fast services to Metroland were one of the unsung wonders of London travel - made living in Harrow somewhat bearable...

  • These trains are not tube trains, they are A stock trains, still in service but not for much longer sadly. In contrast to tube stock, they are the widest stock in passenger service I believe! The Metropolitan was built as a proper suburban railway. It just happens that these days it is run by LU who also run tube trains. The Met will lose its mainline feel when the A stocks are replaced by the appalling S stock trains. No chance of getting a seat from Harrow in the morning peak!

  • Well these trains date from the early 1960's, so maybe the control gear is very similar.

I've never been to NYC, and alas am unlikely to do so for quite a while, if ever. If you know about the impending Canary Island volcano (Cumbre Vieja on the island of La Palma) & resulting tsunami event you will understand why.

    Simon
