Doug's humour is indeed too sophisticated for any general audience, UK, US, whatever. That's why he's blacklisted from Just For Laughs in Canada, because comedy with mass appeal has little relevance. On the contrary, hecklers can help give live shows a sense of chaos and urgency, unlike what you hear on the CD or see on the edited comedy specials. See Stanhope's bootlegged show "Incident in Austin" to see what I mean.

They can grow tiresome, but they're still an important element of the comedy routine when used sparingly and in concentrated doses, as is the case here. The hecklers may not be funny themselves, but the overall commotion and one-liners from the comedian that follow are.

I think doug is way too kind to hecklers. In the comedy clubs ive been to in the UK and US it takes a VERY brave man to heckle because afterall as a heckler you are essentially trying to win an argument against someone who does it for a living.

Most hecklers i have seen end up horrendously humiliated.
