Forget the usual arguments about who's best etc, A great film and theme that honours all the men that saw action that day on both sides, two highly professional forces clashing in a terrifying battle . British solders were up against it that day and by right shouldn't have survived. The Zulu's were an out standing fighting unit and deserve massive respect for their courage and effort.

They say ignorance is bliss but i just find it tedious. It wasnt an english regiment at Rorkes drift. It was The South Wales Borderers a Welsh regiment.CYMRU AM BYTH
@welshcourtland For yours information there were more englishmen at Rourkes Drift than Welsh but who cares? 150 v 4000 and the british won. That's impressive.
@welshcourtland at the time of the battle the regiment was indeedy English although they did a few taffs in it. The regiment museum is in some place up the valleys as they later became a welsh regiment. if you google Rorke's drift and do a bit of research you'll find out a lot more that the film doesn't include or has got wrong ormislead you with.
"but i just find it tedious" You're not the only one!
It wasnt an english regiment at Rorkes drift. Politically and legally "Wales" didn't exist as Wales was part of England at that time, and is still so. The work of Henry VIII
"It was The South Wales Borderers a Welsh regiment" - Yep, but see above.

@welshcourtland FAIL. They were from the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment, with a total of only 14 known Welshmen present at Rorke's Drift. The regiment wasn't renamed as the South Wales Borderers until the Cardwell Act of 1881. "...we being only a small band of English soldiers. My thought was to fight as an English soldier...for the benefit of old England". Private Robert Jones VC.
@Airs0ftluv3r Yeah, I know. I've both read about the Zulu War and seen the film. Also played the wargame. English forces were too far out, should have been closer to their encampment, and formed a square. If they had been closer, there would have been less time getting ammo to the troops.

@Conwaya321 Actually it was more like a draw than a win, but it was a great film and terrific music by John Barry.

Does it matter how many Welsh or English fought in this battle? It was the BRITISH ARMY!

@mbabist01 thats a little over the top, we also got our asses kicked a few times by the Zulu's, watch Zulu Dawn and thats a brilliant example.

@mbabist01 yes i agree, but we did still get destroyed, whether or not it was down to out tactics.

@Airs0ftluv3r When it comes down to it, except for most of the cavalry, the English suffered a massive defeat at Islandwana.
