  • Haha, "a huge aerial to start". Its a freakin' backflip.

  • @stylizhmathias /facepalm

    aerial

reaching far into the air; high; lofty

It's not like the tricking community invented the word...

  • who won this competition? If i remember correctly wasn't there a Jon Valera video for this competition for a tie breaker?

  • this has always been my favorite tournament, so many epic forms, so many epic competitors - Double D's form is my personal fav I think, and of course the announcing deserves a mention :P

  • lol, did he say kim nguyen? lol

  • seriously hooow old iss kim doo??

  • kim Do is born 1979.

  • korean?? hes not korean.

  • who did he tie with?

  • It was a three way tie with Kim Do, David Douglas, and Mike Chat. I believe David Douglas won, but this form was still epic.

  • I believe the tie was actually between JV, DD, and Kim Do. Chat didn't compete in 98 as Camp Chat was the week before this event.

  • I remember seeing this tape. it was jon valera, kim do, and david douglas.

the most interesting part to me at the time (and now still) is @ 1:08 . but anthony atkins is the master of what i call the "double tommy kick"

  • Yea its a cool trick, its called a pop 720 double

  • The three way tie was Kim Do, Jon Valera, and Richard Brandon (wushu). David was the only one that didnt tie. I thought DD was definitely a contender for the win.

  • @OldSkoolKarate 3 way tie - kim do, richard brandon, and jon valera. jon won =)

  • You guys have to realize that this video is 10 years old. Tricking was not what it is today. Therefore the commentators just called everything aerials, because that's what they saw - aerial maneuvers.

  • he's flippin amazing. im a brown belt in the ernie reyes system, and i havent seen anything like it so far here in az

  • Now that's off the freakin' chain. Incredible!

  • That first trick he did oh man

  • wtf every flip the guy sees cals it an aerial...he got a back tuck, and a 720 kick mixed up with an aerial

  • lol I kno^o^ I don't think the announcer kno nuttin about dat stuff

  • @birdhouse555 and he called his doubleleg a barrel roll...wtf?

  • @birdhouse555 aerial is known as a cartwheel with no hands, done in karate and gymnastic forms, and its also known as a maneuver, like when a fighter jet does a barrel roll to dodge a missile, its called an aerial maneuver...

  • where was that sideswipe??

  • that would be the move right after he says "sideswipe" (see the messages above)

  • u mean an oldschool sideswipe is today's aerial switch?

  • yep

  • @OldSkoolKarate ... ah, thanks for clarifying that! I have always been wondering over the years how the "Sideswipe" terminology changed from aerial switch to a super laid-back 540. Thank you!!!

  • no the old school sideswipe is todays suicide swipe, you turn the opposite direction of that of the aerial switch.

  • I saw nothing that resembles a sideswipe, not a 540 of any kind in that.

And yes i cant believe how horible those commentators were.

  • this is the "original" version of a sideswipe. the modern day version hadn't been done yet. an oldskool sideswipe is basically an aerial landing on the leg you push off with.

  • The modern sideswipes evolved from this original sideswipe, hence its variation.

  • but that is called suicideswipe now lol steve terada invented sideswipe

  • lol huge aerial to start off the form.. whatta dumbass

they got a commentator with no knowledge about this stuff lol

  • kim do wiht another huge aerial

  • He's so friggin' cool.Still in the game.Gotta respect that dude.

  • Stupid commentators have no idea what they're talking about...
