  • aww rich, why didnt you do this like a year or 2 ago? i woulda loved cruise control on my old saturn. mighta helped with the resale value too.

  • @pepene93 Why didn't i buy a boat load of apple stock when it first went public??

  • @richpin06a hmm...good point :p

  • @richpin06a I have a 2003 saturn vue. I added cruise control by adding the steering wheel with cruise control switches. I have a gm tech 2 scanner with gm software 27.001. The cruise control is not coming on after install. Does the computer need to be flashed by the tech 2? Do you need to be hooked into gm website for this to work? The cruise control light comes on.

  • @jrryno89 Yes you need to turn it on with the tech 2.I do not have this tool so i can not guide you on it's use.

  • Rich, what do you mean by flashing the PCM? My friend is a bodyshop owner and has a scanner (the one that reads those check engines, etc). Do you mean flashing the PCM with that scanner? After we flash, do we upload anything on it, or does it just to resets itself to Cruise System on? Thank you.

  • @tansuturdag You need a tech 2 scanner which will enable you to access the computer to turn on the cruise control.

  • @richpin06a Hi Rich. I went to PicknPull and got a PCM of another car. My car is 2002 SL1 Automatic Single Cam and the PCM I got was from 2000 SL1 Automatic Single Cam with cruise control.

But my car does not start now with that PCM. It dies immediately after ignition. I remember reading in one your previous posts that we had to match engine and transmission type of the cars for the PCM to work, which I did. What do you think is wrong? do we have to match the year of the car, too?

  • @tansuturdag It could be the darn passlock.Google saturn passlock relearn.

  • @richpin06a Yes, it was the passlock relearn. I applied the fix and it's running now with cruise control. Thank you very much for all your help man.

  • @tansuturdag Darn passlock glad you fixed it.

  • @richpin06a Never mind. You had already answered already. I needed to match the year, too. Sigh! ANd I lost the receipt of PicknPull. Cannot return this one. lol

  • @tansuturdag FYI - I am selling Complete Cruise Kits on eBay for $48! Clean and tested.

Search: "Saturn Add CRUISE CONTROL" Also, selling center consoles/armrests for $50.

  • @mhebay Already got the kit. $28 from PicknPull. Just need PCM to enable cruise control.

  • I need for RX7 1993

  • I did everything that I was supposed to do but found out that that I have a different transmission than what originally came with it. And because of the different gear ratio in gears 3-5 the cruise will not work. So, watch out for that.

  • I am selling tested Gen. 2 Cruise kits on eBay for about $50. Search for: "Add CRUISE CONTROL Module & Switch". No need to cut the panel in my kits!

  • I have a 00 SL w/man trans. What would happen if I put in a used pcm from a 01 that has auto transmission with cruise? thanks

  • @reconciled2God You always want to match up year engine and transmission when it comes to swapping computers.

  • Installed module and steering wheel on my 00 SL. Took it to dealer paid $98 for diagnostic but still does not work. What exactly do I need to ask for to turn on cc? They don't understand what I'm talking about.

  • @reconciled2God Ask for the PCM code to be reflashed to the latest version of the code for your year and emission regulations sticker and to activate all of the installed options.

  • @reconciled2God My '02 SL did not immediately work, so I had the dealership show me on the Teck II screen that the cruise was enabled. It was. The problem was that I had a switch from an L-series, which looks the same but is not compatible (L=3 electrical prongs, S=2). Also, once I changed the switch, the cruise did not work until the following day. Odd.

  • How would I install on a 2000 sl which has different steering wheel?

  • @reconciled2God You need a steering wheel with the cruise buttons and the module and then you have to turn it on in the computer with a Tech 2 scan tool.

  • You've really saved me alot of headaches and extra work with your Saturn videos. Currently I'm planning to put CC in my 2000 SW1/SWP. I have the steering wheel, F-switch (for the brake pedal) and the module. I was stumped on removing the airbag until I saw your video on airbag removal on a gen 3. You've probably not been asked this question but I can't seem to find the mounting holes for the module under the dash on my RHD Saturn. The wiring clip is there just as shown in your video. Thoughts ?

  • @navypcc You got me there RHD never run into one i would think the holes would be there just on the other side.

  • Update: The '00-'02 has the wiring in place. When I replaced my steering wheel, the CC button lit up!

Question: To activate the CC, do I replace the PCM? Is this the thin AL casing located above the battery? Does it matter if the donor car has the upgraded engine or an automatic transmission? Any considerations/precautions necessary before I replace my existing PCM?

    Thanks Richpin.

    Added resale=$100, Experience=Priceless

    * I found two extra wheels and modules if anyone is interested. *

  • @mhebay Thank you for telling everyone about the wiring.Yes that is the PCM near the battery. The easiest way to activate the cruise is with a used one from a car with cruise. It has to be an exact match to your PCM which means 00-02 same engine, transmission, abs.

  • Concerning adding cruise to an '02 SL, is the wiring in place for the controls like in earlier models (I know about adding a steering wheel w/ built in controls)? Also, will a Gen-2 module work with an '02?

Your video on struts & brakes saved me $600 on labor! Then, I added a driver-side power window using the switch and wires from a back door.

Your accent reminds me of Ray Romano's cousin from his TV show and Tom from This Old House.

  • @mhebay I have only removed one gen3 air bag and never payed attention if it had the wires or not but i do know the module is the same.

  • If I want to put cruise on a 98 SL1 5 speed with the SOHC motor, does it matter what car I pull the cruise out of? Can I take cruise off of an automatic, or a DOHC, or both?

  • @Khein19 It does not matter which car DOHC SOHC auto or standard. You will have to go into the software of the computer and turn it to on to make it work.

  • @richpin06a Thank you.

  • Thanks for the help and for narrowing my search. Would a wheel from an L-series Saturn work in my S-series provided it has the same controls?

  • @longjohn720 Not sure if the L-series would fit i bet it would be different.

  • I have a 2002 SL1 that I'm interested in installing cruise control on. I saw one of your other videos on how to remove the air bag (which differs from this older model), but from there would this same method work? Should I look for a new steering wheel with the in-wheel controls, or just look for a model Saturn with this external control? Is there any difference, or is one method easier? Thanks!

  • @longjohn720 For your car you need the module which is under the dash and a 00-02 steering wheel with controls.

  • @uranorexic Above the brake pedal.

  • good video! I did this to my saturn a few years ago. it still does'nt work though because i have'nt gone to the dealer to get the computer updated.

  • "into a caa" new yakers

  • Hi, Richpin, can you help me with my 03' H2 Hummer cruise control? Something went wrong and now my cruise control dont work. What parts and where in the car should I be checking? Also, what part do you think I should be looking to replace? Please help! Thank you.

  • hi richpin, i didn't find¸the plug to put into tue cruise control module in my sl1 98 manual can you help me

  • look for a red plug taped to a wire loom next to the steering column.

  • i really don't foung the wire is it supposed to be install on a saturn without door lock and power window cause my own doesn't have it i look to every wire to find the plus but i didn't see anithyng, if i send you a picture could you help me more ??? thanks you rich pin and sorry for my bad english beacause i come from quebec city in canada

  • yes send a picture

  • I went to a u pull it and I was trying to take out the module from a saturn there and I could not get that plastic clip that connects to the gas pedal to come out is there a trick to it? And can I use a module from a manual and put it in my automatic?

  • Check out my new video Cruise Control Pedal Attachment Removal Saturn S-series.Yes you can use the one you have.

  • Rich thanks for your response. Since this is a 5 speed shift, will I need to add a clutch cruise switch and doses it require a different brake light switch. Thanks again for your help.

  • I am planning on adding cruise control to my 99 SL1. Will I need to include a clutch cruise switch as well? I have a 5 speed trans. manual windows/locks. Do have air. Can I get around having to pay to have my PCM reprogramed. it's going to cost over a 100 bucks. I am in Silicon Valley nothing is done cheaply here.

  • All you need is the module and the steering wheel switch. For actuation of the cruise you have two choices. Have someone with a tech 2 scan tool flash the PCM or swap in a PCM with the cruise turned on.

  • If I already have cruise control in my 1996 Saturn, but the switch/module are defective, can I skip the PCM flash?

Thank you very much for the excellent posts!

  • will this work for a 2000 sw2

    thanks

  • Slightly different on the 2000 in that you have to change the steering wheel because the controls for the cruise are there.

  • Thanks for the video! I followed the video, taking a cruise control unit from a donor 97 SW2 and successfully installed it in my 99 SL2. $17 for the parts from a junkyard, $52 for Saturn to reprogram the PCM, and I now have cruise control.

  • will this work on a manual transaxle car?

  • No problemo

  • Hello Richpin,

I'm a non-mechanic. It looks as if the cruise control module is accessed from the bottom of the car, right? Near the driver side? Great video thanks.

  • thanks a lot for the video. I just finished my installation and it works great. Grabbed the parts from the junkyard for 15 dollars for both pieces. I went to a saturn Dealership and told them that i needed my PCM reprogramed...they knew exactally what to do and the reprograming only cost me $50. woo hoo

  • Now that's a good dealer.Feel free to post there name so others can take advantage of there great service.

  • what year is your saturn i did the same procedure bit i need my pcm reprogramed

  • I preformed it on a 96 saturn, but I believe that I took the parts out of a 97 saturn though. Just have the dealer reprogram the PCM and you will be set.

  • so how i cant get the computer program o if u specificait more

  • A saturn dealer can program cruise control for you.

  • Hey Richpin love your videos man! Quick qeustion can this procedure work for a 95 SC1

  • Yes...the 95 might not need the PCM to be programed for the cruise to work.

  • I just installed the switch and cruise modulater from a 99 sc2 it all bolted up perfectly just wondering if that modulater will function on my 95sc1. hopefully it will work properly if it all bolted up and all the conecters mated perfectly with no problem

  • I just installed the stuff but it didnt work wondering if the doner car which was 99 sc2 is compatible with my 95 sc1. it all bolted up with no problem

  • Ingenious..
